PS4 Jailbreak Tutorial

Introduction

  • New jailbreak for PlayStation 4 available for firmware 11.0.
  • Previous jailbreak was for firmware 9.00.
  • Current method of running the jailbreak is not the most convenient, but improvements are expected.
  • Future videos will cover more convenient methods.

Pre-Setup Steps

  1. Check Notifications

    • Go to notifications and check for system software updates.
    • Cancel any updates (e.g., 11.02) by pressing the options button and deleting them.
  2. Settings Adjustments

    • Go to Settings > System > Automatic Downloads.
    • Uncheck all boxes, especially for system software updates.
    • Head to Network Settings and uncheck "Connect to Internet."
  3. System Information

    • Check your current system software version.
    • Jailbreak is possible for firmware versions from 9.00 up to 11.0 (not above 11.0).
    • If already on 9.00, there's no need to update.
    • If on a higher firmware (but below 11.02), you can proceed with the jailbreak.

Updating to 11.0

  • If needed, update your firmware to 11.0 using these steps:
    1. Go to darksoftware.xyz or other sites to download firmware 11.0.
    2. Format a USB drive to exFAT or FAT32.
    3. Create folder structure on USB:
      • Root: PS4 (uppercase)
      • Subfolder: UPDATE (uppercase)
      • Place the update file named PS4UPDATE.PUP (uppercase) in the UPDATE folder.
    4. Eject USB and plug it into PS4.
    5. Go to Settings > System Software Update to install firmware 11.0.

Jailbreak Setup

  • This jailbreak uses a network protocol exploit instead of the web browser.
  • Network Configuration:
    1. Connect PS4 to computer using Ethernet cable.
    2. Select "Use a LAN Cable" and set up as follows:
      • Choose PPPoE, enter a random user ID and password.
      • Set other options to automatic, and do not use proxy.
    3. Test Internet connection to trigger the exploit after setting up the payload.

Needed Downloads

  • Download Goldhen payload and Stage 2 payload for 11.0 from provided links.
  • Alternative programs to load the exploit can be found in the description.
  • Place the Goldhen payload on the root of a USB drive (formatted to exFAT or FAT32).
  • Optionally, install additional applications or games to the USB drive.

Running the Exploit

  1. Use a program like PPPWNGUI to load the exploit.
  2. Test the internet connection on PS4 to activate the exploit.
  3. Successful exploit will display messages indicating memory corruption and loading Gold Hen.
  4. If the first attempt fails, retry the process until it works.

Post-Jailbreak Configuration

  • Once Gold Hen is loaded, USB drive is no longer needed for future runs.
  • Set up internet connection to block system updates.
  • Configure Gold Hen settings:
    • Enable plugins and set up game overlays.
    • Enable FTP server for remote access to PS4 hard drive.
    • Enable rest mode support in Gold Hen settings to keep it running after entering rest mode.

Installing Applications

  • Use the Gold Hen debug settings to install applications from the USB drive.
  • Install homebrew applications like the Homebrew store and cheats manager.
  • Set up cheats for games and enable patches to modify gameplay.

Restarting the PS4

  • This jailbreak is tethered; restarting the PS4 will disable the jailbreak.
  • You must redo the setup to regain access to jailbroken applications.
  • Use rest mode instead of turning off the console to retain jailbreak access.
