book of genesis uh let's read up just a little bit today we're going through genesis 44-47 we're going to start a little bit in verse in chapter 43 just to bring you up to speed um let's start at verse 30. oh i'm officer eli by the way and to my right is soldier solomon shalom we'll sign christ blessed most high in christ bless most high in christ bless israel so we're going to get started today at genesis 43 and verse 30. this is the book of genesis chapter 43 and verse 30 and joseph made haste for his bowels did yearn upon his brother and he sought where to weep and he entered into his chamber and wept there and he washed his face and went out and refrained himself and said set on bread and they set on for him by himself and for them by themselves and for the egyptians which did eat with him by themselves because the egyptians might not eat bread with the hebrews for that is an abomination unto the egyptians so even the egyptians themselves did not intermingle too much with the hebrews okay we always were separate get that really quick in leviticus is that leviticus 11 no i think it's exodus 11 and 7. that's what i want exodus 11 and 7. this is the book of exodus chapter 11 and verse 7 but against any of the children of israel shall not a dog move his tongue go ahead against man or beast that ye may know how that the lord doth put a difference between the egyptians and israel so even while we were in captivity at this point we wasn't in captivity in egypt but while we so adjourned in egypt the lord still had a difference between the egyptians and us the israelites okay let's go back this is the book of genesis chapter 43 and verse 33 and they sat before him the first born according to his birthright and the youngest according to his youth and the men marveled one at another and he took and sent messes unto them from before him but benjamin's mess was five times so much as any of theirs and they drank and were merry with him now now we're gonna get into chapter 44 okay chapter 44. all right let's go genesis chapter 44 verse 1 and he commanded the steward of his house saying fill the men's sacks with food as much as they can carry and put every man's money in his sack's mouth and put my cup the silver cup in the sack's mouth of the youngest and his corn money and he did according to the word that joseph had spoken as soon as the morning was light the men were sent away they and their asses when they were going out of the city and not yet far off joseph said to a steward up follow after the men when thou dost overtake them say unto them wherefore have ye rewarded evil for good is not this it in which my lord drinketh and whereby indeed he divineth ye have done evil in so doing and he overtook them and he spake unto them these same words and they said unto him wherefore saith my lord these words god forbid that thy servant should do according to this thing behold the money which we found in our sacks mouths we brought again unto thee out of the land of canaan how then should we steal out of thy lord's house silver or gold with whomsoever of thy servants it be found both let him die and we also will be thy lord's bondman and he said now also let it be according unto your words he with whom it is found shall be my servant and ye shall be blameless then they speedily took down every man his sack to the ground and opened every man his sack and he searched and began at the eldest and left at the youngest and the cup was found in benjamin's sack then they rent their clothes and laid every man his ass and returned to the city and judah and his brethren came to joseph's house for he was yet there and they fell before him on the ground and joseph said unto them what deed is this that ye have done what ye not that such a man as i can certainly divine and judah said what shall we say unto my lord what shall we speak or how shall we clear ourselves god hath found out the iniquity of thy servants behold we are my lord's servants both we and he also with whom the cup is found and he said god forbid that i should do so but the man in whose hand the cup is found he shall be my servant and as for you get you up in peace unto your father then judah came near unto him and said o my lord let thy servant i pray thee speak a word in my lord's ears and let not thine anger burn against thy servant for thou art even as pharaoh my lord asked his servant saying have you a father or a brother and we said unto my lord we have a father an old man and a child of his old age a little one and his brother is dead and he alone is left of his mother and his father loveth him and thou says unto thy servants bring him down unto me that i may set mine eyes upon him and we said unto my lord the lad cannot leave his father for if he should leave his father his father would die and thou set us unto thy servants except your youngest brother come down with you you shall see my face no more and it came to pass when we came up until thy servant my father we told him the words of my lord and our father said go again and buy us a little food and we said we cannot go down if our youngest brother be with us then will we go down for we may not see the man's face except our youngest brother be with us and thy servant my father said unto us you know that my wife bear me two sons and the one went out from me and i said one moment so when it says ye know that my wife bear me two sons that's uh jacob speaking about rachel okay that she bear benjamin and joseph which was the 11th and 12th son all right that's just to fill you in on that respect all right go ahead read on verse 28. and the one went out from me and said and i said surely he is torn in pieces and i saw him not since and if you take this also from me and mischief before him you shall bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave now therefore when i come to thy servant my father and the lad be not with us seeing that his life is bound up in the lad's life it shall come to pass when he seeth that the lad is not with us that he will die and thy servants shall bring down the great hairs of thy servant our father with sorrow to the grave for thy servant became shorty for the lad unto my father saying if i bring him not unto thee then i shall bear the blame to my father forever now therefore i pray thee let thy servant abide instead of the lad abondment to my lord and let the lad go up with his brethren for how shall i go up to my father and the lad be not with me last paraventure i see the evil that shall come on my father so to sum up that chapter a little bit he was given a history about the encounter that they had prior when they came up before the egypt to get food and joseph knew that they was his brother so they asked joseph joseph asked them to go back and bring back the youngest son which was benjamin okay so benjamin was found with the cup which joseph wanted to hold him hostage per se or prisoner until a certain period of time but you see that judah stepped in and said let me stay in his place okay judah said let me stay in this place go ahead read on in chapter 45. genesis chapter 45 verse 1 then joseph could not refrain himself before all them that stood by him and he cried caused every man to go out from me and there stood no man with him while joseph made himself known unto his brethren and he wept aloud and the egyptians in the house of pharaoh heard and joseph said unto his brethren i am joseph doth my father yet live and his brethren could not answer him for they were troubled at his presence what's interesting about this is that why could they not recognize their own brother that's because when joseph went in was sold into slavery i believe he was about 14 years old so he's up into his mid-20s to 30 at this point so how he looked as a teenager is not the same way he looks now okay go ahead verse 4 and joseph said unto his brethren come near to me i pray you and they came near and he said i am joseph your brother whom ye sold into egypt now therefore be not grieved nor angry with yourselves that ye sold me heather for god did send me before you to preserve life for these two years hath the famine been in the land and yet there are five years in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest and god sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance so now it was not you that sent me hither but god and he hath made me a father to pharaoh and lord of all his house and a ruler throughout all the land of egypt haste ye and go up to my father and say unto him love saith thy son joseph god hath made me lord of all egypt come down unto me tarry not and thou shalt dwell in the land of goshen and thou shall be near unto me thou and thy children and thy children's children and thy flocks and thy herds and all that thou hast and there will i nourish thee for yet there are five years of famine lest thou and thy household and all that thou hast come to poverty and behold your eyes see and the eyes of my brother benjamin that it is my mouth that speaketh unto you and ye shall tell my father of all my glory in egypt and of all that ye have seen and ye shall haste and bring down my father hither and he fell upon his brother benjamin's neck and wept and benjamin wept upon his neck moreover he kissed all his brethren and wept upon them and after that his brethren talked with him and the fame thereof was heard in pharaoh's house saying joseph's brethren are come and it pleased pharaoh well and his servants and pharaoh said unto joseph say unto thy brethren this do ye laid your beasts and go get you unto the land of canaan and take your father in your households and come unto me and i will give you the good of the land of egypt and you shall eat the fat of the land now thou art commanded this do ye take ye wagons out of the land of egypt for your little ones and for your wives and bring your father and come also regard not your stuff for the good of all the land of egypt is yours and the children of israel did so and joseph gave them wagons according to the commandment of pharaoh and gave them provision for the way to all of them he gave each man changes of raiment but to benjamin he gave 300 pieces of silver and five changes of raiment and to his father he sent after this manner ten asses laden with the good things of egypt and ten she asses laden with corn and bread and meat for his father by the way so he sent his brethren away and they departed and he said unto them see that ye fall not out by the way and they went up out of egypt and came into the land of canaan unto jacob their father and told him saying joseph is yet alive and he is governor over all the land of egypt and jacob's heart fainted for he believed them not and they told him all the words of joseph which he had said unto them and when he saw the wagons which joseph had sent to carry him the spirit of jacob their father revived and israel said it is enough joseph my son is yet alive i will go and see him before i die all right let's go ahead let's go ahead and read in the 46 chapter 46 verse 1 and israel took his journey with all that he had and came to beersheba and offered sacrifices unto the god of his father isaac and god spake unto israel in the visions of the night and said jacob jacob and he said here am i and he said i am god the god of thy father fear not to go down into egypt for i will there make of thee a great nation i will go down with thee into egypt and i will also surely bring thee up again and joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes and jacob rose up from beersheba and the sons of israel carry jacob their father and their little ones and their wives in the wagons which pharaoh has sent to carry him and they took their cattle and their goods which they had gotten in the land of canaan and came into egypt jacob and all his seed with him his sons and his son's sons with him his daughters and his son's daughters and all his seed brought he with him into egypt and these are the names of the children of israel which came into egypt jacob and his sons reuben jacob's firstborn and the sons of reuben hannock and falu and hezron and carmine and the sons of simeon jamie well and jammin and ohad and jacquin and zohar and shaw the son of a canaanitish woman and the sons of levi gershon kohath and marari and the sons of judah er and onan and sheila and pharas and zarah but er and onan died in the land of canaan and the sons of ferez were hezron and hamul and the sons of issachar tola and fuva and job and shimron and the sons of zebulun sarat and elon and jaleel these be the sons of leia was she bear unto jacob in padanaram with his daughter dinah all the souls of his sons and his daughters were thirty and three and the sons of gad zifion and haggai shuni and esbon eri and aradi and arellai and the sons of asher jimna and yeshua and issue and baraya and sarah their sister and the sons of bariah heber and malkiel these are the sons of zilpah whom laban gave to leah his daughter and these she bear unto jacob even sixteen souls the sons of rachel jacob's wife joseph and benjamin and unto joseph in the land of egypt were born manessa and ephraim which asanath the daughter of potiphara free priest of on bear unto him and the sons of benjamin were balah and bakur and ash bell garah and nayaman ehai and raj mup him and huppim and aard these are the sons of rachel which were born to jacob all the souls were fourteen and the sons of dan hushem and the sons of neptali jazeel and guni and jezer and shalem these are the sons of bilhah which laban gave unto rachel his daughter and she bear these unto jacob all the souls were seven all the souls that came with jacob into egypt which came out of his loins besides jacob's son's wives all the souls were three score and six and the sons of joseph which were born him in egypt were two souls all the souls of the house of jacob which came into egypt were three score and ten three score and ten so a score is twenty so three score is sixty and ten so seventy that's seventy souls go ahead verse 28 and he sent judah before him unto joseph to direct his face unto goshen and they came into the land of goshen and joseph made ready as chariot and went up to meet israel his father to goshen and presented himself unto him and he fell on his neck and wept on his neck a good while and israel said unto joseph now let me die since i have seen thy face because thou art yet alive and joseph said unto his brethren and unto his father's house i will go up and show pharaoh and say unto him my brethren and my father's house which were in the land of canaan are come unto me and the men are shepherds for their trade hath been to feed cattle and they have and they have brought their flocks in their herds and all that they have and it shall come to pass when pharaoh shall call you and shall say what is your occupation that ye shall say thy servants trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now both we and also our fathers that ye may dwell in the land of goshen for every shepherd is an abomination unto the egyptians so just mark that uh chapter 46 and 34 in your bible uh i'm gonna go over those that particular point once we're done reading chapter 47. let's read on chapter 47 and verse 1 then joseph came and told pharaoh and said my father and my brethren and their flocks in their herds and all that they have are come out of the land of canaan and behold they are in the land of goshen and he took some of his brethren even five men and presented them unto pharaoh and pharaoh said unto his brethren what is your occupation and they said unto pharaoh thy servants are shepherds both we and also our fathers they said moreover unto pharaoh for to sojourn in the land are we come for thy servants have no pasture for their flocks for the famine is sore in the land of canaan now therefore we pray thee let thy servants dwell in the land of goshen and pharaoh spake unto joseph saying thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee the land of egypt is before thee in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell in the land of goshen let them dwell and if thou knowest any men of activity among them then make them rulers over my cattle and joseph brought in jacob his father and set him before pharaoh and jacob blessed pharaoh and pharaoh said unto jacob how old art thou and jacob said unto pharaoh the days of the years of my pilgrimage are in 130 years few and evil have the days of the years of my life been and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage and jacob blessed pharaoh and went out from before pharaoh and joseph placed his father and his brethren and gave them a possession in the land of egypt and the best of the land in the land of ramesses as pharaoh had commanded and joseph nourished his father and his brethren and all his father's household with bread according to their families and there was no bread in all the land for the famine was very sore so that the land of egypt and all the land of canaan fainted by reason of the famine and joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of egypt and in the land of canaan for the corn which they bought and joseph brought the money into pharaoh's house and when money failed in the land of egypt and in the land of canaan all the egyptians came unto joseph and said give us bread for why should we die in our presence for the money faileth and joseph said give your cattle and i will give you for your cattle if money fail and they brought their cattle unto joseph and joseph gave them bread in exchange for horses and for the flocks and for the cattle of the herds and for the asses and he fed them with bread for all their cattle for that year when that year was ended they came unto him the second year and said unto him we will not hide it from my lord how that our money is spent my lord also hath out herds of cattle there was not ought left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our lands wherefore shall we die before thine eyes both we and our land by us and our land for bread and we in our land will be servants unto pharaoh and give us seed that we may live and not die that the land be not desolate and joseph brought and joseph bought all the land of egypt for pharaoh for the egyptians sold every man his field because the famine prevailed over them so the land became pharaohs and as for the people he removed them to cities from one end of the borders of egypt even to the other end thereof only the land of the priests bought he not for the priests had a portion assigned them a pharaoh and did eat their portion which pharaoh gave them wherefore they sold not their lands then joseph said unto the people behold i have bought you this day and your land for pharaoh lo here is seed for you and you shall sow the land and it shall come to pass in the increase that you shall give the fifth part unto pharaoh and four parts shall be your own for seed of the field and for your food and for them of your households and for food for your little ones and they said thou has saved our lives let us find grace in the sight of my lord and we will be pharaoh's servants and joseph made it a law over the land of egypt unto this day that pharaoh should have the fifth part except the land of the priests only which became not pharaohs and israel dwelt in the land of egypt in the country of goshen and they had possessions therein and grew and multiplied exceedingly and jacob lived in the land of egypt 17 years so the whole age of jacob was 147 years and the time drew nigh that israel must die and he called his son joseph and said unto him if now i have found grace in thy sight put i pray thee thy hand under my thigh and deal kindly and truly with me bury me not i pray thee in egypt but i will lie with my fathers and thou shalt carry me out of egypt and bury me in their burying place and he said i will do as thou hast said and he said swear unto me and he swear unto him and israel bowed himself upon the bed's head okay okay okay so we went through some very heavy heavy stuff in chapters 44 through 47. so what i want to do now is i'm going to show you some characteristics that you see about joseph in these particular chapters okay one of the things we want to point out is joseph's forgiveness to his brothers okay if your brother sold you into slavery a lot of us the things that our fathers and our brothers do to us today uh we're very unforgiving people especially when it comes to israel so let's look at the law that joseph kept let's get that in matthew chapter 18. matthew chapter 18 let's look at the law of forgiveness 18 and 21. the book of matthew chapter 18 and verse 21 then came peter to him and said lord how oft shall my brother sin against me and i forgive him till seven times jesus saith unto him i say not unto thee unto seven times but until 70 times seven so even in that example joseph showed us and he showed his brothers that it wasn't it wasn't of them but it was of the most high why he ended up in egypt okay to do what to bring deliverance to his his father his brothers and his family okay had he not been in egypt at the time they possibly would have died but the most high for sue foresaw and put them in a place to preserve the nation of israel um also let's look at let's look at the favor that he had go to verse go to chapter where you said he was lord chapter go to what you got let me see i think that might be it yes this is the book of genesis chapter 45 verse 26 and told him saying joseph is yet alive and he is governor over all the land of egypt and jacob's heart fainted for he believed them not now when you look at that we're going to go go to psalms 105 and 16. you know what's heavy about that soldier is that when you look at when you look at history and the uh the stock that they put in egypt everything that egypt was at a certain point in time it was the influence of israel that brought prosperity to that land it was the influence of joseph so the pharaoh at this time got everybody in servitude based off of the business dealings that joseph had and the favor that the lord had with them let's get verse 16. this is the book of psalms 105 and verse 16. actually start at verse 15 verse 15 saying touch not mine anointed and do my profits no harm that's everywhere we went the most i don't like nobody dealing with israel crazy okay go ahead moreover he called for a famine upon the land he break the whole staff of bread he sent the man before them even joseph so now even david is this david i believe this is david bringing back to history again that's what that's why it says search for your forefathers search out your fathers understand the history of the bible that we're bringing out okay go ahead he sent the man before them even joseph who was sold for a servant whose feet they hurt with feathers he was laid in iron let's get this for a second it says his feet were hurt with feathers and laid with iron okay what did that mean where's it at give me the chapter where he was in prison um 39 and yeah let's get that read that part genesis 39 and 20. this is the book of genesis chapter 39 and verse 20 and joseph's master took him and put him into the prison read on a place where the king's prisoners were bound and he was there in the prison so when we read in psalms and it says whose feet they hurt with feathers and he was laid in iron is talking about joseph being put in prison now to be put in prison and this is a young man you know i don't know when he when he went to egypt he could have been 17 he could have been a uh between 17 18 years old but what we do know is our forefather was put in prison he didn't deserve to be put in prison but he was put in prison so what did he do in his adversity okay what was the perseverance that our forefather joseph has what was the characteristics of joseph get sirach 2 verse 1. what were the characteristics of joseph when he was put in prison or in adversity go ahead this is ecclesiasticus chapter 2 and verse 1 my son if thou come to serve the lord prepare thy soul for temptation uh-huh set thy heart a right and constantly endure and constantly endure okay joseph went to jail for no reason okay under false pretenses but what he did was constantly endure that's the same thing we got to do today in our trials and tribulations constantly endure read on and make not haste in time of trouble don't be so quick to leave the truth or find excuses in the time of trouble okay read on cleave unto him cleave unto whom who was him the bible go ahead and depart not away that thou mayest be increased at thy last end that thou may be increased at thy last end get um we're gonna come right back here get ecclesiastes seven and eight ecclesiastes 7 and 8. it says that thou may be increased in thy last end what is it talking about go ahead this is ecclesiastes chapter seven and verse eight better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof so in this instance it says better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof because when he began to go forth into egypt he was in slavery he was sold into slavery when he got into egypt he did well he got put into prison but the end of the thing was that he became the governor of of egypt the governor of egypt he said he was a father to pharaoh okay read on is that it and the patient in spirit and the patient and spirit so when it says constantly endure make not haste in the time of trouble that's the patient in spirit re is better than the proud in spirit it's better than the foolish that does the opposite of cleaving unto the lord and departing not away is that it i sit on that verse uh jump down to 14 verse 14. in the day of prosperity be joyful go ahead but in the day of adversity consider consider what consider the days that you were joyful don't don't just look at your situation when when it's not going well consider the days that were good that's why it says read it from the top in the day of prosperity be joyful but in the day of adversity consider consider go ahead god also has set the one over against the other to the end that man should find nothing after him okay now let's go back to where we was at in ecclesiastes yes sir ecclesiastic is chapter 2 and verse 4. whatsoever is brought upon thee take cheerfully that's exactly what it's saying in ecclesiastes 7 and 14. but go ahead and be patient and be patient in spirit when thou art changed to a lowly state and when things aren't at its best in your life be patient read the bible more study more pray more apply more go ahead for gold is tried in the fire so joseph was tried joseph was gold that was tried in the fire every every affliction every tribulation that came upon joseph he persevered go ahead and acceptable men in the furnace of adversity and you're going to find acceptable men that go through adversity on the other end of that adversity you're gonna find an acceptable man okay read believe in him and he will help thee order thy way a right and trust in him and trust in him these are characteristics that joseph had uh get that in acts 14 and 22. acts 14 and 22. the book of acts chapter 14 and verse 22 confirming the souls of the disciples so what confirms the souls of the disciples the gold that's being tried in the fire go ahead and exhorting them to continue in the faith and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of god no way else to get into the kingdom but through tribulation so if anybody comes to serve the lord understand that there is going to be tribulation just as our forefather joseph went through okay and even in this tribulation it was that man's spirit he had forgiveness he had favor he had uh what else did he have righteousness what else he had soldier mercy he had mercy this man showed all the attributes of what the lord deems an acceptable man okay let's get proverbs 24 and 14. because we have to understand that when we read the bible and we read about our forefathers look at the things that they went through in chapter 44-47 understand all of these things that joseph went through to the man that he became to rule egypt read the book of proverbs chapter 24 and verse 14 so shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul when thou has found it then there shall be a reward and thy excellent no it says uh 10 verse 10 verse 10 if thou faint in the day of adversity if you faint when a smallest inkling of affliction comes into your life go ahead thy strength is small the strength that you supposed to apply the bible is small so what you should do in the day of adversity is read the afflictions and the adversity of your forefathers in the attributes that they had in those times and apply those things to your life because what you'll find sometimes is favor get me jeremiah 15 and 11. because when he went into egypt he went in as a slave he was in prison and better was the end of the thing that he became the ruler so how could he find that much favor reid the book of jeremiah chapter 15 verse 11 the lord said verily it shall be well with thy remnants verily i will cause the enemy to entreat thee well in the time of evil so even in the time of evil in the time of affliction he said that he's going to embrace your enemies too and treat you well all you have to do is keep the commandments that's what romans says it says that it that is not of uh good works it's not a terror to those that are doing good works okay now i wanted to touch on real quick the land part so it said and get that in 46 and 34. genesis 46 and 34. genesis chapter 46 verse 34 that ye shall that ye shall say thy servants trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now both we and also our fathers that ye may dwell in the land of goshen the land of goshen now some of y'all may get confused go to 47 and 11. so he said that israel would dwell in the land of goshen get genesis 47 and 11. genesis 47 verse 11 and joseph placed his father and his brethren and gave them a possession in the land of egypt and the best of the land in the land of ramesses so in the land of ram ramses was the king at the time when we left egypt okay now remember who wrote the f the first five books of the bible it was moses let's read second ezra is 14. so goshen was the land of ramses it was the exact same place uh i think i want like two or three yeah uh yes start with three the book of 2nd ezra's chapter 14 and verse 3 then said he unto me in the bush i did manifestly reveal myself unto moses and talked with him when my people served in egypt and i sent him and led my people out of egypt and brought him up to the mount of sinai where i held him by me a long season and told him many wondrous things and showed him the secrets of the time he showed him the secrets of the times okay so moses wrote from the beginning he saw the beginning and the end go ahead and the end and commanded him saying these words shalt thou declare and these shalt thou hide so there were certain things that you would see in the bible and of course the it was written again with ezra's okay so you got to understand that at that time when moses was in captivity it was the land of ramses okay that was the land of ramses but let's go back to 46 and 34. genesis 46 verse that ye shall say thy servants trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now both we and also our fathers that ye may dwell in the land of goshen for every shepherd is an abomination unto the egyptians so there's history behind why he's instructing them to say that they're shepherds okay one to to be in the the land of goshen which was furt out but also when it states that um for every shepherd is an abomination unto the egyptians okay somewhere in between the 15th to 17th dynasty you have what they call the which were called the shepherd kings they were a group of canaanites or hittites that i think occupied it was either upper or lower egypt okay those were the pharaohs at that time okay so that's why he's instructing them at that point to tell them y'all are shepherds they did not deal with shepherds but the favor of the favor that joseph had was it bestowed upon him through pharaoh to give him that land okay now let's look at let's go back to psalms 105 and 16 let's look at david because this says to search about your fathers they always spoke when you read the bible they always always made reference to our forefathers 105 and what did we leave off at i think it was 18. okay all right let's read verse 19. psalm chapter 105 verse 19 until the time that his word came the word of the lord tried him the king sent and loosed him even the rule of the people and let him go free now all of this is talking about joseph and what he went through it said whose feet they hurt with feathers meaning the pr the perseverance that he had in the adversity of being imprisoned okay read verse 8 19 again until the time that his word came the word of the lord tried him the word of the lord tried joseph okay tried joseph what by putting him in prison go ahead the king sent and loosed him even the rule of the people and let him go free read on he made him lord of his house and ruler of all his substance that made joseph a governor okay remember when we read the scripture it says they even make your enemies and treat you well you gotta have a lot of favor to go from being in prison to being governor and ruler of that land go ahead to bind his princes at his pleasure and teach his senators wisdom who taught egypt it says joseph taught his senators what and teach his senators wisdom joseph taught his senator's wisdom okay joseph was the teacher in israel the governor and not in israel but in egypt all right read on verse 23 israel also came into egypt and jacobs adjourned in the land of ham and he increased his people greatly and made them stronger than their enemies is that it yeah that's it on that now let's go to x because david wrote about it and paul wrote about it well actually this is luke luke wrote the book of acts uh acts chapter 7 and verse 8. the book of acts chapter 7 and verse 8 and the nation to whom they shall be in bondage will i judge said god and after that shall they come forth and serve me in this place and he gave them the covenant of circumcision and so abraham begot isaac and circumcised him the eighth day and isaac begot jacob and jacob he got the 12 patriarchs and the patriarchs moved with envy sold joseph into egypt again when you come to serve the lord prepare your soul for temptation okay now let's see what joseph did go ahead but god was with him and delivered him out of all his afflictions can we read that again in acts 14 and 22. these are the characteristics and attributes of a righteous man and the things that we must do and endure to enter the kingdom go ahead the book of acts chapter 14 and verse 22 confirming the souls of the disciples and exhorting them to continue in the faith and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of god so anytime you feel like you're going through something read about your forefathers read about joseph okay read about abraham isaac moses read about these men let's go back seven and nine the book of acts chapter seven and verse nine and the patriarchs moved with envy sold joseph into egypt but god was with him and delivered him out of all his afflictions and gave him favor and wisdom in the sight of pharaoh king of egypt he found favor and wisdom in the sight of pharaoh okay go ahead and he made him governor over egypt in all his house pretty much he would be what would you can i mean what what would you consider him to be he would be like the king you know only thing he didn't have was the title second in command he was second in command but smarter than the first one in command exactly we're talking about business minded joseph also taught you how to save money he said give a fifth part pay your bills and he said save money for this save this for that he's telling you how to save money how to in times of tribulation which we should be doing now he's telling you how to persevere that's how egypt got through what they got through in the famine was because joseph was wise enough to do what to save okay read on verse 11. now there came a dearth over all the land of egypt and canaan and great affliction and our fathers found no sustenance but when jacob heard that there was corn in egypt he sent out our fathers first how did jacob know that there was corn in egypt because joseph had already told pharaoh exactly what he needed to do to save up in the time of tribulation go ahead and at the second time joseph was made known to his brethren and joseph kindred was made known unto pharaoh then sent joseph and called his father jacob to him and all his kindred three score and 15 souls so jacob went down into egypt and died he and our fathers now we got to think about this the characteristics of joseph as a faithful man a righteous man of faith the favor that he had the forgiveness the mercy that he had for his brothers okay all of these things are attributes that we can apply to ourselves today okay and make us better men women brothers sisters to one another to bring forth the nation of israel that that it says in luke 17 and 20. okay give me that in hebrews chapter 11 and verse 21. the book of hebrews chapter 11 and verse 21 by faith jacob when he was a dying blessed both the sons of joseph and worshiped leaning upon the top of his staff by faith joseph when he died made mention of the departing of the children of israel yeah i want to read both of those and gave commandment concerning his bones so by faith this is what we're talking about when you read hebrews 11 it goes into what we call the the hall of faith all of the faithful men of the sons of god that's a very good chapter to read but right now start at genesis 48 okay um go to sirach 49 and 15 siroc 49 and 15. and i pray that as we continue to do the 365 that it increases everybody's faith and spirit okay to continue to search the scriptures all right 49 and i want 15. ecclesiasticus chapter 49 and verse 15. neither was there a man born like unto joseph a governor of his brethren a stay of the people whose bones were regarded of the lord so understand this man joseph nobody was like him okay and if we want to grow in spirit to be like him put on the spirit of your forefathers okay i think where we at uh we'll open up for a few questions concerning the chapters okay concerning the chapters that we went over um y'all let me know if there's any questions okay we got a few more minutes we'll we'll go over any questions concerning the chapters all right you got anything sold you want to bring out okay yes sir israel we thank you all for tuning in with us today for another iuic 365 365. we pray that it continues to strengthen your spirits you found it yet oh any questions as of yet okay it's a cut and dry chapter it is a cut and dry chapter all right what you looking for uh 78 my yeah bring it up bring it out soldier just tell me what you want me to read if y'all have any questions uh put them on the channel so that we can answer them to best of our knowledge okay anything concerning the chapters that we went through what does it say what's the question the kings of what um no they were just called the shepherd kings what happened to benjamin um let's go back there uh where's it at 44 and yeah let's read that basically at the beginning of the chapter um they came into egypt they were asked to bring benjamin back okay and joseph pretty much i would call it a prank he put a cup inside benjamin's bag so that he could hold benjamin prisoner for a short period of time but um when you read the chapter he's really just getting information about their father jacob and if he's alive look at did he start questioning them about the father read 44 32 this is the book of genesis chapter 44 verse 32. it shall come to pass verse 32 for thy servant became surety for the lad unto my father saying if i bring him not unto thee then i shall bear the blame to my father forever so judah went back to speak to joseph in reference to benjamin okay and he wanted to exchange his life for benjamin's life because he knew that his father would die of sorrow if he had lost two of his favorite sons okay read on now therefore i pray thee let thy servant abide instead of the lad abondment to my lord and let the lad go up with his brethren for how shall i go up to my father and the lad be not with me lest paraventure i see the evil that shall come on my father read up to jump up to verse 29 and we're going to show you what he's talking about verse 29 joseph never got over i mean jacob never got over joseph being um taken away but go ahead and if you take this also from me and mischief before him you should bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave so what is he talking about get surround 20 surah chapter 30 and verse 20 let's start at 21 30 and 21 ecclesiasticus chapter 30 and verse 21 give not over thy mind to heaviness and afflict not thyself and thine own counsel the gladness of the heart is the life of man and the joyfulness of a man prolongeth his days go ahead love love thine own soul and comfort thy heart remove sorrow far from thee for sorrow hath killed many and that's what it was he was speaking about was he was explaining to joseph that if they were not to bring benjamin back that it would kill their father um but at that time joseph that wasn't joseph's intent um he was just kind of questioning judah in reference to the whereabouts of their father and so forth and so on so he pretty much was just interrogating them okay any other questions uh not necessarily i mean we were all dark people but they didn't recognize joseph because when joseph went into egypt he was of young age how old was he again i think he was somewhere between 14 to 17 years old you got some soldier yeah then also you have to think about the customs of the egyptians how they dressed uh the body hair that they didn't have the the way they were their hair they pulled their heads all of those things those customs obviously if he's living in a different land in a different culture he's going to look different he's going to appear different especially after he's aged right um where's the scripture where it says he took off his he took off his raiment and so forth it says something about him taking off his he changed his raiment remember joseph was second in command in egypt you know so you got to think the attire that he had on when they sold him into slavery he was a slave now they come into a land and this man is decked out in gold and he has a wig on and he's probably got his head shaved um so you got to think that he's not going to look like they would look because he's in a different land as the soldiers pointed out um where they said he took his stuff off yes that's the chapter it says when he spoke rough to him y'all can give us another question to uh i'll find that scripture it's we got to go by dynasty um we were in the 17th to the 19th dynasty we were in slavery we left out in the 19th dynasty so joseph would have been before the 17th dynasty i believe the hixos were in between somewhere around between the 15th and 16th dynasty so i want to say give or take the 16th dynasty but i'm not 100 sure so i'm gonna approximate around the 16th dynasty um joseph was in egypt so that could be under many pharaohs at that point in time when you think about the 17th dynasty there were many pharaohs that came one after the other so can't give an accurate pinpoint a timeline as to which pharaoh it was right he spoke he's spoken okay let's read that 42 and start at seven and then we'll jump down uh okay the book of genesis chapter 42 and verse 7 and joseph saw his brethren and he knew them but made himself strange unto them and speak roughly unto them and he said unto them whence come ye but you've noticed that he said he made himself strange he made himself strange unto them okay so that's the part where you can tell that he he he put on his his egyptian raiment and so forth and so on and he dealt with them like he he was a pharaoh or he was a ruler uh read on whence come ye and they said from the land of canaan to buy food and joseph knew his brethren but they knew not him and 23 verse 23 and they knew not that joseph understood them for he spake unto them by an interpreter so joseph used an interpreter even though he spoke hebrew he used an interpreter so he did everything as uh i would say you know if you went to if you went to spain and this person came from america but they went to spain and they choose to speak spanish they're going to have an english interpreter so joseph had an interpreter to um interpret what he was saying from each whatever whatever they spoke in egyptian unto hebrew so that's one of the reasons he kind of masked himself in that way all right 41 14. okay yeah there it is the book of genesis chapter 41 and verse 14. then pharaoh sent and called joseph and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon and he shaved himself and changed his raiment and came in unto pharaoh right so you can see that i mean joseph had taken on some of the customs of egypt he was second in command okay so some of the laws and stuff like that you know i'm not saying whether he he kept the laws or not in egypt but he had to adapt to where he was at i would say at that time okay um we'll take two two or three more questions because we gotta end by a certain time that's it all right all right israel we want to thank y'all uh for joining us for another iuic 365 reading uh we pray that y'all gained something from today's lesson and i'm officer eli iuc concorde and with me i have soldier solomon new york camp all praise to the most high we thank you all again a shalom most high in christ bless have a good night
