Enhancing Your Prayer Life Essentials

The prayer clinic has been a major focus, especially in the past few weeks, and in the course of that, I've taught you on prayer routines, prayer rituals, as well as prayer essentials 1 to 11. Can you hear me clearly? Thank you. Our contemplation today is prayer essential number 12. I want to encourage you to fasten your seat belt because you'll be flying at a very high altitude and you're going to enjoy every bit of the flight because it's going to be a very safe flight. I want you to trust God and trust me that your prayer life is about to change. No more rhetorics, no more vain repetitions. Before you open your mouth, God will answer. While you're yet speaking, He will hear. It is not my word, it is God's word. In order to simplify this message and to make it so easy to understand, we're going to camp around some seven powerful texts of Scripture. These seven powerful Scriptures encapsulate Two major things. Number one, what to ask for when you pray. Number two, to know the things that have been freely given to you by God even before you start praying. Do you understand this? If you ask me for what I will not give you, it's a waste of your time because I won't. But if you know the things that have been freely given to you by God, and you stay within the boundary that Jesus explained or demonstrated at the resurrection of Lazarus, He said, I thank you, my Father, because you have heard me. And I thank you because you hear me always. If you're going to be within that boundary, there are two things you must know. Number one. What to ask for when you pray. And number two, to know the things that have been freely given to you by God. Take the scripture one after the other, all the seven of them. This is like Bible study again. But I will go through this. It's not like just preaching. I want you to see precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, so that you come to the... place of maturity in placing a request before God. The first text of scripture, Matthew chapter 7, we begin to read from verse 7 to 11. Matthew 7 from verse 7 to 11. It reads, and I quote, Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, And it will be open to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Is that your experience? And he who seeks, finds. And to him who knocks, it will be open. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Any father like that? Because the stone hurt it. Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then being evil in comparison to God, know how to give what? I can hear you. If you then know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what? Give good things to those who ask him. Question. What is God's definition of good things? Remember Isaiah 55, your ways are not my ways, your thoughts are not my thoughts. Two cannot walk together except they agree. So we need to define what does God regard as good things. Let me ask you a simple question. Automobiles, are they good things? I can't hear you. Houses being built by you for you to dwell in, are they good things? I cannot hear you well. Promotion at work, are they good things? Your yes is so shallow. Journey mercies when you travel, are they good things? Finding. a faithful man to marry, is that a good thing? Finding a virtuous woman to marry, is that a good thing? Having fruit of the womb, is that a good thing? Is that what God is asking you to ask for? Let's define second scripture. How do we define good things? How? The Bible makes it clear to me that you cannot read your greed into God's creed. It takes scripture to interpret scripture. The moment you miss that point, you will take any scripture from anywhere and apply it to your situation and nothing happens. In 2 Peter 1 verse 16 to 21, this is how to allow scripture to interpret scripture so that you don't read your greed into God's creed. I told you many years ago, it was during my National Youth Service, I saw Bluebird 1.8 pack that would do a leg bar, and I went to lay hand on one that whatever I claim is mine, in Jesus name, this is mine. I would walk by the place, they were selling it one by one, till they sold the last one, I didn't get any. Why? Did God not answer my prayer? Couldn't he give me just one car? I asked him, if you ask anything, you receive it. There was no prayer. I didn't pray. I didn't get nothing. I began to learn how God does his things. There's a method to his provision. In 2 Peter chapter 1 verse 16 to 21, Peter declared, For we did not follow cunningly devised fables. Hello? You're going to get treasure with pleasure without measure. Connelly device fables. He said, Amen. For we did not follow Connelly device fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. But we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honor and glory. When such a voice came to him from the excellent glory. Days. is my beloved son in whom i am well pleased was that the first time of god speaking from heaven about him no when he was coming out of baptism in river jordan god said this is my beloved son in whom i'm well pleased but on month transfiguration the sentence was completed this is my beloved son In whom I'm well pleased, hear ye him. You have no authority for anybody to hear you, except you have encountered God in such a manner. And I'm going to make it plain this morning. I'm trying to pull myself back. I feel like jumping into my prayer closet immediately. But we have to take it step by step. And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain. And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines where? In dark place until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Knowing what first? You're not responding. Are you this tired early in the morning? Knowing this first. This is primary. That no prophecy of scripture is of any private interpretation. You cannot read your greed into a script. For prophecy never came by the will of man but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. So if God says... If you that are evil know how to give good things to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him? We must now look for scripture to interpret scripture. Is that clear? That takes me to the third scripture. Luke chapter 11. They came to him to teach them how to pray. Luke chapter 11. I read from verse 1 to 13. Please pay attention. Now it came to pass. As he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, that one of his disciples said to him, Lord, teach us to pray as John also taught his disciples. So he said to them, when you pray, say, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth. as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our daily bread and forgive us our sins for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation. You hear more about that when we enter the prayer closet. That the closest, the greatest ally to Satan is your flesh. Pray! so that you will not be tempted. He said in the garden of Gethsemane, the flesh is weak, it is the spirit that is willing. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. And he said to them, which of you shall have a friend? And go to him at midnight and say to him, friend, lend me three loaves. For a friend of mine has come to me on his journey and I have nothing to set before him. And he will answer from within and say, do not trouble me. The door is now shut and my children are with me in bed. I cannot rise and give to you. I say to you, do not rise and give to him because he is his friend. Yet, because of his persistence, underlying persistence in your mind or in your notepad, because I'm coming back to this scripture. We're going to read this separately. You'll understand what it means. Because of his persistence, he will rise and give him as many as he needs. Based on this story, Jesus now defined good things. So I say to you, ask and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. And he who seeks, finds. And to him who knocks, it will be opened. If his son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? If he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an... egg will he offer him a scorpion if you then being evil know how to give good gifts to your children good what if you then being evil know how to give good things to your children how much more will your heavenly father give the holy spirit to those who ask him so when you stand before god what do you ask for I cannot hear you. Oh God help me. I've deflated your balloon. I was asking for bluebird 1.8 ready to drive. Guess what? I didn't know how to drive. I've never driven at that time. Who is putting the cart before the horse today? God will give you the car and you park it and you use it to knock here and knock there. I've never learned how to drive until what would I use to learn? How much more will your heavenly father give the holy spirit to those who ask him? Now we go to the fourth scripture. To whom is the holy spirit promised? Because many people speak in tongues, you don't know who is behind it. Even demonized people speak in tongues. Tongues are not peculiar to saints. Demonized people speak in tongues also. To whom is the Holy? If you distinguish, if God puts holy before spirit, it means there are other spirits that are not holy. To whom is the Holy Spirit promised? Are you following me? Acts chapter 2 verse 32 to 39. To whom is the Holy Spirit promised? This Jesus, this was Paul, now beg your pardon, Peter and the dear of Pentecost. This Jesus God has raised up of which we are all witnesses. Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit. Can you say that? Having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit in poor days. Which you now see and hear. For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself, The Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand, till I make your enemies your footstool. Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucify, both Lord and Christ. Now when they heard this, They were called to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, men and brethren, what shall we do? I keep on telling you, if you keep on standing here every time and saying, bow down your heads and close your eyes before we pray. If you want to receive Jesus, lift up your hand. I can see one hand there. I can see all the eyes are closed when they are coming to the kingdom. When they open their eyes, they will not be able to talk. If the word gets to you, you are the one asking, like that jailer in prison, what must I do to be saved? And what did Peter say? Let me continue reading. Then Peter said to them, repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. That comes first, before you receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Then Peter said to them, repent. Repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. And you shall receive what? The gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to those who have repented. Those who have been baptized by immersion in the name of Christ. Those who are raised into newness of life. The promise is to you and to your children and to all who are far off. As many as the Lord our God we call. We are going step by step. What is it that we ask for? Holy Spirit. To whom is the Holy Spirit promised? To those who have repented of their sins. Don't just say, I don't want to hear. You can do what you want to do. If sin still has dominion over you and you're not breaking forth from it, you're wasting your time. The Holy Spirit is promised to those who have repented of their sins, for the remission of their sins, who are baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for newness of life. That gift is given to them. Okay? Now, it's promised to some, it's given to others. Are you listening to me? It's promised to all, but it's given to some. Many are called, few are... Chosen, I'm talking about the authentic Holy Spirit. Not open your mouth, shoot your tongue, it will give you whatever you hear say. If that was what happened when the day of Pentecost had fully come, all nations under heavens would not have understood what they were saying. It does not matter what language or wherever. God is able to direct you by the Holy Spirit even when you don't speak the language of the people you find yourself in. He has a way of doing it. I'll never forget that. I was conducting a Bible study that day. I was in my university years and I ministered baptism in the Holy Spirit to them. Nobody in that family had ever been to Quranist school. God wanted me to be sure that one of them is actually baptized that day. God baptized in the Holy Spirit and began to say, I could hear clearly because I studied the Quran and he never did. She never did. To whom is the Holy Spirit given? It's promised to all. It's given to some. Acts of the Apostles chapter 5. Are you following me step by step? Acts 5 29 to 32. Don't shakabula me. I'm not interested. We think it's to show off to speak in tongues when we are in public meetings. Paul said, I forbid you to do that. I pray in tongues more than you all, but I will do that privately. If I ever speak in tongues publicly, then I must be able to interpret. You know, they say you got to begin to pray in tongues, in tongues, in tongues. No! There must be interpretation so that people can benefit from it or you'll be barbarians talking to barbarians. The promise of the Spirit is given to many, to all, but it's given to some. Acts 5 29 to 32. But Peter and the other apostles answered and said, we are to obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. Him God has exalted to his right hand to be prince and savior to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. And we are his witnesses. to these things and also so also is the holy spirit whom god has given to those who obey him this uh they look like technical digits i'm telling you keep on living in rebellion keep on acting the way you like and the way you choose Keep on thinking, yes, he has made a promise that the Holy Spirit will be with us forever. It can't go anywhere. It will not go anywhere, but you can quench the spirit. And I want to show you. You can grieve the spirit and you can quench the spirit. And it will mean nothing thereafter. The promise is to all, but it's given to those who obey God. Number six. why is the Holy Spirit given? Why? The answer is simple. The Holy Spirit is given so that we may effectively pray as we ought to. That's why it says, ask the Holy Spirit. I recall sharing the testimony of Dr. Okunobo with you. I have several testimonies I could share, but they're not from here. You can prove and... testify or ask people to prove what I just said, they brought this man sick, could not walk, was on his buttocks, was crying. His wife was testifying. And as I bring him to my office, I didn't know what to do. So I step into my main office and I prayed, Father, I don't know what is wrong here. You know all things. What do I need to know so that I know how to pray effectively? And there was peace in my heart, but I didn't hear anything. I understood by the hand of the Lord upon me to go listen to them. I will know what to do when I get there. Did he not say, when you are brought before counsel anywhere, you will not look for the word or put the word in your mouth? So I sat in front of him and I asked the wife to repeat the situation. And he was repeating, oh, others have prayed. These are done and these are done. And then I heard, take his two legs and... put them on your chest. I look at his legs. I look at my shirt. I had to obey. I grabbed his two legs. Bam! Bam! He jumped up. Now, what power do I have to do that? But we just lay hands and pray anyhow. Father, your word says. You sent your word and you healed them. Father, your word says. Is that what he's telling you? Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mother. Is that a proceeding word? Or you're just taking commandments? If you are kind diligently to the voice of the Lord your God and obey his commandment, then this blessing shall pursue you and overtake you. You have no romance with the Holy Spirit. You don't consult him. You don't ask him for anything. You just take the scripture you like and apply. Well done. Okari, I learned that from Apostle Mike. He said, Okari, well done. It will be nothing but exercise in futility. Why is the Holy Spirit given to those who obey God? Romans 8, 26-28 Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. King James Version says, in our infirmities. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought. We are praying this way, but this is the way we ought to pray. This is why the Holy Spirit is given to us. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us. With groanings which cannot be uttered. That is uttered in articulate speech. Now he who searches your hearts. Knows what the mind of the spirit is. Because he makes what? Intercession for the saints. According to the will of God. And when that happens. Whether you are praying in the Holy Spirit. Or praying in understanding. Both will walk together for your good. And we know that all things walk for good, together for good, to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. Number two, our final scripture. The Holy Spirit is given to those who obey God so that we may effectively pray as we ought to. And finally, point number seven, the Holy Spirit is given to those who obey God so that we may freely, freely, freely, we will know what is freely given to us by God even before we start to pray. It can give you countless testimonies. of understanding what God has given me and standing on it and not shaking for a moment because I know I've heard from heaven. 1 Corinthians chapter 2 verse 9 to 12. There's a seventh scripture we are camping around. It's going to change your prayer life. You're not just going to say, oh yeah, everybody carry your Bible. It's Bible study time. It's prayer time. Oh yeah, I'm Agbadura. Agkebe soke. Agbon soke. Agbadura. Elogun. Efefun. I'm not against your family altar, but let it be coordinated and ordered by the Holy Spirit. In such a way that before the father speaks, the children know where the scripture is coming from. Because in their own bedrooms, God has spoken to them that this is the direction in which we are going. The wind blows where it leads. No man knows where it's coming from and no man knows where it's going. If you follow the Holy Spirit, you'll be totally unpredictable to the devil. But if it is you, Pentecostal Church, it knows what you're going to do next. It's figured it out. It's been around us for a long time. Opening prayer will be led by Pastor Ike. Let us pray. Our Father, we thank you for the gathering of together of your people and together and togetherness. Praise worship will follow. After praise worship, Mrs. B will come to do thanksgiving. And after thanksgiving... whether anybody helps her to get down or does not help the husband to get up. He will have to come up all the same. And he will pray and preach and do. And then he said, thank you for listening. We'll go to see that. And then Stephanie will come. Let us stretch our hands to pastor. We know! Master does. The wind blows, we are at least. No man knows where he's coming from. No man. That's what this place must become. energized by the power of the Holy Spirit from the foregoing. 1 Corinthians 2, I've not read that. 1 Corinthians 2, 9 to 12. But as it is written, I have not seen nor heard, nor entered into the heart. Of what? Of man. The things we God has prepared for those who love him. They are set apart. They are prepared. Just as you were saying on your birthday, before Saul met Samuel, Samuel had kept aside a particular portion of the meat that was sacrificed to give to the man who is going to become the king of Israel. He said, bring that which I set apart. It was kept for you. It was not there yet. There are things kept for you that the Holy Spirit will open your eyes to see. This is yours. This is yours. And you walk into it and no one can chase you out of it because it's yours. Can I hear amen? It's yours. It's yours. You know we're not planning to build the citadel at Orego. If you were there at the beginning, we're going to pull down the old building. And then we'll rent. Adebola house for us to worship there for about two years before we returned. And one day I was driving into the church. It was a heaven downpour and the whole area was muddy. And I said, I've been here for all these years. Suddenly it hit me. Is this the place you want to build this citadel? And it grieved my spirit. I couldn't talk to anybody. The following morning I woke up. And I started walking up and down, walking up and down in the pavilion in our home and praying and praying and understanding God, Lord, direct me. My spirit is grieved. There's no peace in my heart. There must be something you're about to do. And I heard him go back to Adibola house. The man is waiting for you. It was the agent who was going to sign the papers that day. Before that day, I had a dream. I had eggs, beautiful eggs. in a cage that was woven like gold. And I approached the owner of the building. I said, Aladji, please help me hold this. I'll be going to preach. When I finish ministering, I'll come to collect my eggs. I finished preaching. I came to Aladji. Aladji, my eggs, I'm coming. Aladji, my eggs, I'm coming. I waited. I'm having meetings. Until I woke up, the eggs are not returned to me. I said, Kai, this is where I'm bringing people. No, I'm not doing anymore. So I approached the man. I said, we are not signing these papers anymore. He said, why are you not signing? And I said, look, our problem is we need land. And we couldn't find any land. And we have tried everywhere. We have gone. They are showing us on the road to Damascus. Sorry, not Damascus. Express Road. No, that's not where God said to me. From the beginning of this ministry. In 1989. So I'm sending you to people in Ikeja. Maryland. Onigbo Ongo. Oregu. Those are the places he mentioned one after the other. Olus is alive. Olu Midepa. I mentioned those to him. If there's any trouble in your spirit, pull apart. The Holy Spirit wants to reveal something to you. This is why we got here today. It was that irritation that caused me to pull apart that the Holy Spirit go to the man. You don't know so many things. You are so blind and ignorant until the Holy Spirit would direct you. You can be born again and be as blind as a bat. I pray for you that the eyes of your understanding will be enlightened in the name of Jesus Christ. that you will know the things that are freely given to you by God. Let me read that. If I finish here, that's fine. I've not even started at all. But God has revealed them to us through his Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things. Yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man, except the Spirit of the man which is in him. Even so, no one knows the things of God except what? The Spirit of God. Now, or is it later? I can't hear you. Is that 2022? Is that 2023? Now we have received not the Spirit of the Word, but the Spirit which is from God, that we may know, we may know the things that have been freely given to us by God. Can I hear a good Amen? Come on now. From the foregoing, we can proceed with clarity to our prayer. essential number 12. Matthew 7, 7. Ask and it will be given to you. I pity those who don't understand or don't know how to pray. It's a great pity because it all brings the power of heaven down. It's a prayer of saints. It's a pity if you refuse to give your life to Jesus Christ. You don't belong to his kingdom. And therefore, the promise is not to you, neither can it be given to you because you don't obey God. If you are going to live on the cutting edge in this world and be on top always and not beneath, you must make the Holy Spirit your paracletus, your standby, your trainer, your coach, the one who reveals things that are yet to happen to you before they happen. Ask and it will be given to you. Seek and you will find. Knock and it will be opened to you. Now before now we have covered prayer essential number 10. Do you remember it? Ask and it will be given to you. By now from all that we have put together today, we know what to ask for is who? I cannot hear you. So when you stand. I taught you, but I'm not sure you follow me. I said, when I wake up in the morning, it does not matter how tired I could be. The first thing that comes from my heart is, Amen and Amen. The prayer of Tunde Bakere are ended. That was what David said. He said, Amen and Amen. The prayer of David, the son of Jesse, are ended. Let all the earth be filled with the glory of God. Why Amen and Amen? Because the Holy Spirit... has been interceding all night for you because Jesus ever lives to make intercession for you. And when they are before the Father, making intercession for you in order to download their prayers into your spirit, say, Amen and Amen. I receive it. And when I get up to begin to pray, it begins to direct me. It begins to show me things. So I'm not laboring in vain or bringing forth for trouble. It's not a mechanical thing that I'm doing. It is something that my mind has been trained upon to function that way. We know what to ask for is the Holy Spirit. We also know that the Holy Spirit has been given to those who obey God. And for such people who obey God, we also know, shall I tell you, we also know without any outer doubt. Now before they ask, God will answer. While they are yet speaking, God will hear. It's a difference. You can keep on asking and keep on asking and keep on. Those who obey God to whom the Holy Spirit has been given and who have been directed by the Holy Spirit, when that time comes for them to ask, they ask between, you have answered me, you answer me always. They know as they open their mouth. They know about the things that have been freely given to them by God. And they stay within that boundary. Guess what will happen? Before they ask, God will answer. And while they are yet speaking, go here. Oh God. Give me the glorious new creation. Isaiah 65, 17 to 24. Isaiah 65, 17 to 24. Forbehold! I create new heavens and a new earth and the former shall not be remembered or come to mind. Somebody will say this is the new millennium. Well done. Carry. Be glad and rejoice forever in what I create. For behold I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing and a people a joy. I will rejoice in Jerusalem and join my people. The voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her, nor the voice of crying. No more shall an infant from there leave but for a few days. No, an old man who has not fulfilled his days. For the child shall die 100 years old. Are people going to die in the new millennium? I'm not hearing you. Are they going to die when Jesus returns and takes us up and brings us back here? No, for the child shall die 100 years old. But the sinner being 100 years old shall be accursed. What's going to happen? The experience of this new creation, new creation, the glory of the new creation, is that they shall build houses, not one. They shall build houses and inhabit them. They shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. They shall not build and another inhabit. They shall not plant and another eat. For as the days of a tree... For as the days of a tree, so shall be the days of my people. And my elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. They shall not labor in vain, including praying in vain. They shall not labor in vain, nor bring forth children for trouble. For they shall be the descendants of the blessed of the Lord, and their outsprings with them. It shall come to pass that before they call, I can't hear you. Is this the same position of the man who is asking and asking and asking and asking and asking? Is this God's expectation for the new creation? Before they call, I will answer. While they are yet speaking, I will hear. Where do you want to belong? Knock, knock. Ask, ask. Something is wrong. Now, that's prayer essential 10. Prayer essential 11 is seek and what will happen? And you shall find. I'm giving you a summary of that again. We now know that it matters to God what we seek. We are to seek his face and not his hands. Every time you stand before God to bring your petition, Allah is sharing it for me, Allah is sharing it for me, Allah is sharing it for me, you are seeking his hands. He wants us to seek his face because he knows the things that we have need of and he's preparing the best for those that is already preparing. He's preparing you for what he has prepared for you. Can I hear amen? Give me Psalm 27, 7 to 9. Psalm 27, 7 to 9. Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice, have mercy also upon me and answer me. When you said, seek my face, my heart said to you, your face, Lord, I will seek promptly. I'm not looking at the things that I need and the things that I think God ought to have done or ought to have blessed me with. No, no, no. I'm seeking your face. I'm of something I don't understand. Do not hide your face from me. Do not turn your servant away in anger. You have been my help. Do not leave me nor forsake me, O God, of my salvation. And when left, right, and center, everyone has forsaken you. Give me verse 10 of that. When everybody thinks you can't make it. When everybody thinks you have missed the road, even when your father and mother rejects you. What's going to happen? The Lord himself. Read that with me. When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take care of me. I want you to look at me and see what the Lord has done. You understand me? I was forsaken. I became a Christian, was kicked out of the house. It looked as if the end of the world had come. I'm not making an empty boast. Everyone who did that ended up eating on my table. And hell will break loose because you are seeking his face. And they are looking down on you. The day is fast approaching when they will look up to you. Can I hear amen? Say what you like. I know the one whom I have believed. Can I hear amen? It matters to God what we seek. Not only that, we also know that while others are seeking God. True. Have you seen people seeking God? If you have not truly given your life to Jesus Christ, this is the time to say Lord, I've labored in vain. I need you more than ever before. The Bible is not a religious book to me. It's my GPS. to navigate through this world and God deepens my understanding and opens my eyes to see. I ask you the final question, if Jesus is a dove, how dare you knock him?

No more rhetorics, no more vain repetitions. Before you open your mouth, God will answer. While you're yet speaking, He will hear. It is not my word, it is God's word.

In order to simplify this message and to make it so easy to understand, we're going to camp around some seven powerful texts of Scripture. These seven powerful Scriptures encapsulate Two major things. Number one, what to ask for when you pray. Number two, to know the things that have been freely given to you by God even before you start praying.

Do you understand this? If you ask me for what I will not give you, it's a waste of your time because I won't. But if you know the things that have been freely given to you by God, and you stay within the boundary that Jesus explained or demonstrated at the resurrection of Lazarus, He said, I thank you, my Father, because you have heard me. And I thank you because you hear me always.

If you're going to be within that boundary, there are two things you must know. Number one. What to ask for when you pray. And number two, to know the things that have been freely given to you by God.

Take the scripture one after the other, all the seven of them. This is like Bible study again. But I will go through this.

It's not like just preaching. I want you to see precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, so that you come to the... place of maturity in placing a request before God. The first text of scripture, Matthew chapter 7, we begin to read from verse 7 to 11. Matthew 7 from verse 7 to 11. It reads, and I quote, Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find.

Knock, And it will be open to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Is that your experience? And he who seeks, finds.

And to him who knocks, it will be open. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Any father like that?

Because the stone hurt it. Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then being evil in comparison to God, know how to give what? I can hear you.

If you then know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what? Give good things to those who ask him. Question.

What is God's definition of good things? Remember Isaiah 55, your ways are not my ways, your thoughts are not my thoughts. Two cannot walk together except they agree. So we need to define what does God regard as good things. Let me ask you a simple question.

Automobiles, are they good things? I can't hear you. Houses being built by you for you to dwell in, are they good things?

I cannot hear you well. Promotion at work, are they good things? Your yes is so shallow. Journey mercies when you travel, are they good things? Finding.

a faithful man to marry, is that a good thing? Finding a virtuous woman to marry, is that a good thing? Having fruit of the womb, is that a good thing? Is that what God is asking you to ask for?

Let's define second scripture. How do we define good things? How?

The Bible makes it clear to me that you cannot read your greed into God's creed. It takes scripture to interpret scripture. The moment you miss that point, you will take any scripture from anywhere and apply it to your situation and nothing happens.

In 2 Peter 1 verse 16 to 21, this is how to allow scripture to interpret scripture so that you don't read your greed into God's creed. I told you many years ago, it was during my National Youth Service, I saw Bluebird 1.8 pack that would do a leg bar, and I went to lay hand on one that whatever I claim is mine, in Jesus name, this is mine. I would walk by the place, they were selling it one by one, till they sold the last one, I didn't get any.

Why? Did God not answer my prayer? Couldn't he give me just one car? I asked him, if you ask anything, you receive it. There was no prayer.

I didn't pray. I didn't get nothing. I began to learn how God does his things. There's a method to his provision.

In 2 Peter chapter 1 verse 16 to 21, Peter declared, For we did not follow cunningly devised fables. Hello? You're going to get treasure with pleasure without measure.

Connelly device fables. He said, Amen. For we did not follow Connelly device fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

But we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honor and glory. When such a voice came to him from the excellent glory.

Days. is my beloved son in whom i am well pleased was that the first time of god speaking from heaven about him no when he was coming out of baptism in river jordan god said this is my beloved son in whom i'm well pleased but on month transfiguration the sentence was completed this is my beloved son In whom I'm well pleased, hear ye him. You have no authority for anybody to hear you, except you have encountered God in such a manner.

And I'm going to make it plain this morning. I'm trying to pull myself back. I feel like jumping into my prayer closet immediately.

But we have to take it step by step. And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain. And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines where?

In dark place until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Knowing what first? You're not responding. Are you this tired early in the morning?

Knowing this first. This is primary. That no prophecy of scripture is of any private interpretation. You cannot read your greed into a script.

For prophecy never came by the will of man but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. So if God says... If you that are evil know how to give good things to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him? We must now look for scripture to interpret scripture. Is that clear?

That takes me to the third scripture. Luke chapter 11. They came to him to teach them how to pray. Luke chapter 11. I read from verse 1 to 13. Please pay attention. Now it came to pass.

As he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, that one of his disciples said to him, Lord, teach us to pray as John also taught his disciples. So he said to them, when you pray, say, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth.

as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our daily bread and forgive us our sins for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation. You hear more about that when we enter the prayer closet.

That the closest, the greatest ally to Satan is your flesh. Pray! so that you will not be tempted.

He said in the garden of Gethsemane, the flesh is weak, it is the spirit that is willing. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. And he said to them, which of you shall have a friend?

And go to him at midnight and say to him, friend, lend me three loaves. For a friend of mine has come to me on his journey and I have nothing to set before him. And he will answer from within and say, do not trouble me.

The door is now shut and my children are with me in bed. I cannot rise and give to you. I say to you, do not rise and give to him because he is his friend. Yet, because of his persistence, underlying persistence in your mind or in your notepad, because I'm coming back to this scripture. We're going to read this separately.

You'll understand what it means. Because of his persistence, he will rise and give him as many as he needs. Based on this story, Jesus now defined good things.

So I say to you, ask and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives.

And he who seeks, finds. And to him who knocks, it will be opened. If his son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone?

If he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an... egg will he offer him a scorpion if you then being evil know how to give good gifts to your children good what if you then being evil know how to give good things to your children how much more will your heavenly father give the holy spirit to those who ask him so when you stand before god what do you ask for I cannot hear you. Oh God help me.

I've deflated your balloon. I was asking for bluebird 1.8 ready to drive. Guess what?

I didn't know how to drive. I've never driven at that time. Who is putting the cart before the horse today?

God will give you the car and you park it and you use it to knock here and knock there. I've never learned how to drive until what would I use to learn? How much more will your heavenly father give the holy spirit to those who ask him? Now we go to the fourth scripture.

To whom is the holy spirit promised? Because many people speak in tongues, you don't know who is behind it. Even demonized people speak in tongues. Tongues are not peculiar to saints. Demonized people speak in tongues also.

To whom is the Holy? If you distinguish, if God puts holy before spirit, it means there are other spirits that are not holy. To whom is the Holy Spirit promised?

Are you following me? Acts chapter 2 verse 32 to 39. To whom is the Holy Spirit promised? This Jesus, this was Paul, now beg your pardon, Peter and the dear of Pentecost.

This Jesus God has raised up of which we are all witnesses. Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit. Can you say that? Having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit in poor days. Which you now see and hear.

For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself, The Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand, till I make your enemies your footstool. Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucify, both Lord and Christ. Now when they heard this, They were called to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, men and brethren, what shall we do?

I keep on telling you, if you keep on standing here every time and saying, bow down your heads and close your eyes before we pray. If you want to receive Jesus, lift up your hand. I can see one hand there.

I can see all the eyes are closed when they are coming to the kingdom. When they open their eyes, they will not be able to talk. If the word gets to you, you are the one asking, like that jailer in prison, what must I do to be saved? And what did Peter say?

Let me continue reading. Then Peter said to them, repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. That comes first, before you receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Then Peter said to them, repent. Repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.

And you shall receive what? The gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to those who have repented. Those who have been baptized by immersion in the name of Christ.

Those who are raised into newness of life. The promise is to you and to your children and to all who are far off. As many as the Lord our God we call.

We are going step by step. What is it that we ask for? Holy Spirit. To whom is the Holy Spirit promised? To those who have repented of their sins.

Don't just say, I don't want to hear. You can do what you want to do. If sin still has dominion over you and you're not breaking forth from it, you're wasting your time.

The Holy Spirit is promised to those who have repented of their sins, for the remission of their sins, who are baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for newness of life. That gift is given to them. Okay?

Now, it's promised to some, it's given to others. Are you listening to me? It's promised to all, but it's given to some. Many are called, few are... Chosen, I'm talking about the authentic Holy Spirit.

Not open your mouth, shoot your tongue, it will give you whatever you hear say. If that was what happened when the day of Pentecost had fully come, all nations under heavens would not have understood what they were saying. It does not matter what language or wherever. God is able to direct you by the Holy Spirit even when you don't speak the language of the people you find yourself in. He has a way of doing it.

I'll never forget that. I was conducting a Bible study that day. I was in my university years and I ministered baptism in the Holy Spirit to them.

Nobody in that family had ever been to Quranist school. God wanted me to be sure that one of them is actually baptized that day. God baptized in the Holy Spirit and began to say, I could hear clearly because I studied the Quran and he never did.

She never did. To whom is the Holy Spirit given? It's promised to all. It's given to some.

Acts of the Apostles chapter 5. Are you following me step by step? Acts 5 29 to 32. Don't shakabula me. I'm not interested.

We think it's to show off to speak in tongues when we are in public meetings. Paul said, I forbid you to do that. I pray in tongues more than you all, but I will do that privately.

If I ever speak in tongues publicly, then I must be able to interpret. You know, they say you got to begin to pray in tongues, in tongues, in tongues. No! There must be interpretation so that people can benefit from it or you'll be barbarians talking to barbarians. The promise of the Spirit is given to many, to all, but it's given to some.

Acts 5 29 to 32. But Peter and the other apostles answered and said, we are to obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. Him God has exalted to his right hand to be prince and savior to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. And we are his witnesses. to these things and also so also is the holy spirit whom god has given to those who obey him this uh they look like technical digits i'm telling you keep on living in rebellion keep on acting the way you like and the way you choose Keep on thinking, yes, he has made a promise that the Holy Spirit will be with us forever.

It can't go anywhere. It will not go anywhere, but you can quench the spirit. And I want to show you.

You can grieve the spirit and you can quench the spirit. And it will mean nothing thereafter. The promise is to all, but it's given to those who obey God.

Number six. why is the Holy Spirit given? Why?

The answer is simple. The Holy Spirit is given so that we may effectively pray as we ought to. That's why it says, ask the Holy Spirit. I recall sharing the testimony of Dr. Okunobo with you. I have several testimonies I could share, but they're not from here.

You can prove and... testify or ask people to prove what I just said, they brought this man sick, could not walk, was on his buttocks, was crying. His wife was testifying. And as I bring him to my office, I didn't know what to do. So I step into my main office and I prayed, Father, I don't know what is wrong here.

You know all things. What do I need to know so that I know how to pray effectively? And there was peace in my heart, but I didn't hear anything. I understood by the hand of the Lord upon me to go listen to them.

I will know what to do when I get there. Did he not say, when you are brought before counsel anywhere, you will not look for the word or put the word in your mouth? So I sat in front of him and I asked the wife to repeat the situation. And he was repeating, oh, others have prayed.

These are done and these are done. And then I heard, take his two legs and... put them on your chest. I look at his legs.

I look at my shirt. I had to obey. I grabbed his two legs.

Bam! Bam! He jumped up.

Now, what power do I have to do that? But we just lay hands and pray anyhow. Father, your word says. You sent your word and you healed them.

Father, your word says. Is that what he's telling you? Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mother.

Is that a proceeding word? Or you're just taking commandments? If you are kind diligently to the voice of the Lord your God and obey his commandment, then this blessing shall pursue you and overtake you. You have no romance with the Holy Spirit. You don't consult him.

You don't ask him for anything. You just take the scripture you like and apply. Well done. Okari, I learned that from Apostle Mike. He said, Okari, well done.

It will be nothing but exercise in futility. Why is the Holy Spirit given to those who obey God? Romans 8, 26-28 Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. King James Version says, in our infirmities. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought.

We are praying this way, but this is the way we ought to pray. This is why the Holy Spirit is given to us. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us. With groanings which cannot be uttered.

That is uttered in articulate speech. Now he who searches your hearts. Knows what the mind of the spirit is. Because he makes what?

Intercession for the saints. According to the will of God. And when that happens. Whether you are praying in the Holy Spirit.

Or praying in understanding. Both will walk together for your good. And we know that all things walk for good, together for good, to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. Number two, our final scripture.

The Holy Spirit is given to those who obey God so that we may effectively pray as we ought to. And finally, point number seven, the Holy Spirit is given to those who obey God so that we may freely, freely, freely, we will know what is freely given to us by God even before we start to pray. It can give you countless testimonies.

of understanding what God has given me and standing on it and not shaking for a moment because I know I've heard from heaven. 1 Corinthians chapter 2 verse 9 to 12. There's a seventh scripture we are camping around. It's going to change your prayer life.

You're not just going to say, oh yeah, everybody carry your Bible. It's Bible study time. It's prayer time.

Because in their own bedrooms, God has spoken to them that this is the direction in which we are going. The wind blows where it leads. No man knows where it's coming from and no man knows where it's going. If you follow the Holy Spirit, you'll be totally unpredictable to the devil.

But if it is you, Pentecostal Church, it knows what you're going to do next. It's figured it out. It's been around us for a long time. Opening prayer will be led by Pastor Ike. Let us pray.

They are prepared. Just as you were saying on your birthday, before Saul met Samuel, Samuel had kept aside a particular portion of the meat that was sacrificed to give to the man who is going to become the king of Israel. He said, bring that which I set apart. It was kept for you. It was not there yet.

There are things kept for you that the Holy Spirit will open your eyes to see. This is yours. This is yours.

And you walk into it and no one can chase you out of it because it's yours. Can I hear amen? It's yours.

It's yours. You know we're not planning to build the citadel at Orego. If you were there at the beginning, we're going to pull down the old building. And then we'll rent. Adebola house for us to worship there for about two years before we returned.

And one day I was driving into the church. It was a heaven downpour and the whole area was muddy. And I said, I've been here for all these years. Suddenly it hit me. Is this the place you want to build this citadel?

But God has revealed them to us through his Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things. Yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man, except the Spirit of the man which is in him. Even so, no one knows the things of God except what?

It's a difference. You can keep on asking and keep on asking and keep on. Those who obey God to whom the Holy Spirit has been given and who have been directed by the Holy Spirit, when that time comes for them to ask, they ask between, you have answered me, you answer me always.

They know as they open their mouth. They know about the things that have been freely given to them by God. And they stay within that boundary. Guess what will happen?

Before they ask, God will answer. And while they are yet speaking, go here. Oh God.
