Different Types of Nafs
1. Bahimi Nafs (Animalistic Self)
- Characteristics: Pursuit of basic needs (eating, drinking, sleeping).
- Comparison: Similar to livestock if these pursuits dominate life.
2. Predatory Nafs
- Traits: Satisfaction in destructive actions (killing, usurping).
- Comparison: Similar to predators or wild beasts if these traits are prevalent.
3. Shaytani Nafs (Satanic Self)
- Characteristics: Arrogance, deceit, and other negative traits.
- Comparison: Resembles Shaytan (Satan) if these pursuits bring happiness.
4. Angelic Nafs
- Nature: Seeks lofty, moral, and ethical pursuits.
- Characteristics: Knowledge, remembrance (dhikr), truthfulness, humility.
Tazkiyah (Purification) Process
- Goal: Liberate the heart from negative nafs traits.
- Impact: Affects the identity of the heart.
- Outcome: A heart can be dominated by negative or angelic traits.
