Can you see where we're at? Can you give me hearts that you have your classwork from Monday? Because we're finishing this.
Nobody's responded to me. Do we have our classwork ready to go? Yes?
Okay. As we are wrapping up those debates, Clearly right now you can see the two sides. Thumbs up if that makes sense to you. Yes?
Can I get someone to read this? And we want to write this down because this kind of estimates where they are under this debate. can i get a reader to read please thank you lorelei lincoln douglas debates lincoln also stated i believe that this government cannot endure permanently half slave and half free while douglas stated this unit can exist forever divided into three enslaved states as our fathers made it room chat's open what do you think the where are the sightedness what's the division between these two humans Room chats open, mics open.
What do you think the biggest thing... I'm not seeing anybody in room chats, so I won't... We want everyone to do it in room chat.
What we're trying to do is have a discussion, because if we don't, then I got to make you have an assignment. I don't want to do that. I just want us to have a discussion.
Does that sound good? What do you think, Ben? What do you think, Charles? What do you think, Gia? What do you think, Lexi?
What do you think, Lorelei? What do you think, Taylor, Wyatt, Xavier, Kira? What's the biggest debate?
Sure. Also, it's when it's moving forward. Does that make sense? So it's not just that they don't think one thing is that slavery can stay the same for the country.
The other one says, no, it can't. Does that make sense to you? Make sure you have this. We are turning in classwork from today and Monday this week. Okay.
In the end of the election, Douglas wins. The Senate now has a narrow victory over Lincoln, right? So this is a very close, except unlike in other races that we've seen politically, like throughout the decades is Lincoln elevated. Even though he lost, he is thought as relevant.
He is thought as pertinent. He thinks there's importance with him. Thumbs up if that makes sense. And people are learning about him and jumping on that bag wagon at a national level. Does everyone understand?
Give me just hearts. Thank you. Next slide.
We don't, we don't have very many slides. I want to get you to. the video on this. So we're flip, we're switching gears.
And as a result of having this debate over North versus South or abolitionism versus slavery, this has been an a national conversation, even though we were talking about one Senate race. Thumbs up if that makes sense to you. Harper's Ferry is one of those places. So Brown is a staunch abolitionist. He's considered more radical because he is choosing a more radical, more violent, more invasive manner to get rid of slavery.
He often has highlighted numerous uprisings. Thumbs up if that makes sense to you. Right. And he does this.
Can I get someone to read this slide? What happens at Harper's Herb? We only have two more slides after this. So we want to make sure we have time. Lexi, go ahead.
the late in 1859 the year's following of lincoln's um i don't know that word i'm sorry i'm sorry where are you at radical are you at i'm following the lincoln douglas lincoln douglas today raised in illinois illinois the re radical abolition radical additions of john brown the same john brown responsible for in setting yep you got it 18 votes in the heat and I'm sorry no you're okay a lot of this is study violence of the kansas territory during bleeding kansas okay a few years earlier in 1856 had again organized a group of men to launch an attack. This time Brown Gold wasn't attacked. Pro-serve, serve-ported, rather, he was looked to wrath.
a federal armory, which is where a lot of guns, ammunitions, and other weaponry is held. Just so you know what you're reading, everyone. Keep going. You're doing wonderfully, Lexi. Okay.
That was wonderful. No, I appreciate you so much. So in Virginia, he's coming to raid an armory in hopes to give weapons to enslaved humans to start a rebellion to gain their freedom and get away from the tyranny, bad behavior.
Remember that idea of, what's it called? that idea of fear right and hate that was the slavery in the south does that comes up if that makes sense this is the first time we've ever seen that but the fact that they're trying to give enslaved people the ability to do it themselves lexi you did wonderful okay Do we have this written down? We have two more slides and I want to show you a video on it so you can kind of hear more about what Harper's Rebellion was.
So in the South there was a response to this. The federal armory, the group led, Brown and his men were defeated. He was convicted on numerous charges and was sentenced to execution by hanging.
This was them putting him as an example. It was up if that makes sense. They were putting him as an example who would hopes to deter others who were doing it in the same way. But what it did was, even though it was like a bridge too far for the average abolitionist, people were like, that's a little too much. but it still supported his cause of saying that enslaved people should be able to direct to no longer be slaves.
So the spirit of what he's doing, even if they didn't agree, was intact. Can I get someone to read just this is the last slide and I want to show you the video. Can I get someone to read the last slide?
Kara, go ahead. But give me one second. Let me turn off the video. I need it to you know how it likes to start no matter what. Okay, go ahead.
The death of Brown served as a rallying point which solidified the beliefs and determination of a ball wilderness more than ever before to abolish slavery once and for all. Meanwhile, upon learning of Brown's connections to a handful of abolitionists, pro-slavery southerners became more fearful than ever of northern conspiracy efforts against them Okay, make sure you write this down. He was iconic. He was an icon. for the cause his passion was so strong he was willing to die for it And the fact that the South was more concerned because they felt like there was more conspiracies against them as they're seeing people be invigorated to do more drastic things to fight against slavery.
Thumbs up if that makes sense. Now, I want you to watch this. It's only for a minute. Okay. As you're thinking about this, I'm giving you a moment so you can.
Write it down. Your exit ticket is I want two sentences on Harper's Ferry. What do you think about the possible rebellion?
What do you think about the raid? Brown, two sentences on it. It's our exit ticket. We are turning in today and Monday's work, classwork.
Yes. Okie dokie. Give me hearts when you're ready to play the video. I got one. Okay, is everybody with me?
I'm backing it up so we can hear it again. Can you give me a thumbs up that you can hear me? Yes.
Are we okay still? I'm not hearing, I'm not seeing a thumbs up or anything. I paused it.
I pulled it back. I know we had a little hiccup. What you will be turning in this Friday. Hearts, if that makes sense to you.
Yes. Perfect.
