hi my name is Hunter May I'm the owner of May crochets and today we are talking about the best yarn for summer [Music] clothing you like crocheting and knitting garments like I do you're probably wondering what type of yarn is best when I think yarn I always think for like sweaters but not necessarily for like T tops or things to wear in the summer and the type of fiber that you use for the garments in the summer really matters so we're going to go over the fibers that are the best to use during summer and then I'm going to give some examples of specific Yarns that I've tried or would be interested in trying that I think would be really good for summer garments the reason that it's super important that you use specific fibers with crocheting or knitting in the summer for wearables is that we want to make sure it's breathable you don't want to make something super bulky and heavy where if you wear it out in this 90° heat that we've been having you're just going to be sweating and then you got to wash it more washing is a whole thing we don't want to do that so we want to make sure that we use fibers that are breathable they're lightweight and it'll help you keep cool throughout these super hot summer days the first fiber we're going to be talking about is cotton cotton is honestly my favorite I do a lot of things with cotton or like cotton Blends which we'll talk about blends later in the video the benefits of cotton are that it's very breathable it's very absorbent and depending on the kind that you get it can be pretty soft which a lot of people think cotton isn't soft but honestly you just got to get the right type of yarn for it to be soft if the cotton that you think of is this yarn right here I promise you it's way softer it doesn't have to be like this so cotton is really great it absorbs moisture which is really great because we sweat a lot in the summer some of my top picks personally for yarn for cotton so I actually have some here that I bought and I just haven't used yet so the first one which is probably the lower priced on the scale is this Li brand Puma cotton I really really like this there are super super cute colors of this I will put some pictures of all the colors that they have I do have this link down below it's on Amazon which is awesome and it's Prime so get it really quickly this is super soft and it is 100% cotton and it's a weight for yarn I think almost all the ones I'm showing is like weight four weight three because that's what I prefer so there's obviously more Yarns in this these are just the ones that I like or am interested in trying myself yeah so first Puma cotton by Lion Brand I really like this this yellow is so cute and there's also like a terracotta color that I really like and then the next one this is a little bit more pricier on the cotton scale is wool in the gang Shiny Happy cotton I really like this one too this one's a little bit more pricier but the colors in this are super cute and I really like the texture of this it's so soft also 100% cotton I will show some pictures of things that I've made with this I've made a lot of hats which is kind of interesting but I made a bucket hat two bucket hats actually and then I made a ball of clava which is winter but you know it's also very lightweight and breathable so yeah these are some of the cotton Yarns that I really like and I've tried and I would highly recommend before we go back to the video I just wanted to briefly come on and talk about my merch I have multiple different merch collections which I personally think are super cute and fun when I created my merch I was trying to go for things that weren't granny Fiber Arts merch because when you look at merch online it's like highly targeted to an older audience and I wanted more alternative like more relatable to younger Generations graphics and I really think that I did that including this one that is a little skeleton hand holding a crochet hook and then I also have one that's holding knitting needles as well and I'll put all the other collections on the screen as well so you can see all of them I have a friend in town and she really liked my merch she lives overseas though so she didn't want to spend the shipping to go all the way over there cuz she knew she'd be here so she got her merch sent to my house so in the next clip I'm going to have her open the merch that she got with us and we can see what she ordered these are the ones that she really liked watch the video and then I will come right back okay open it watch me spent 3 hours I can't I can't even remember what you bought is it it might not even be all of it honestly maybe we're g they're they're on inside oh okay okay have this yeah so this is the crochet fast die warm one and then there's this Stitch Stitch and then this nice have no she likes the more form fitting so she got you got like a lot of Smalls and mediums I think they're all smalls all smalls let's try this one they definitely look more yeah looks good cute nice I love the pepper color honestly I do cuz it's not just gray it's not black but it's like yeah a little spice yes you I'm glad the spalls fit you yeah cute it looks good I like it my stop I'm kind of hot oh yeah there I was wondering where this was looks good now we can be matching in this one and wait and this one and I think you have all three of them I do have all three of them I took them from your pictures we should get a picture together that would be awesome should what does it say it's my thank you for your purchase thanks thank about I would love it if you went and bought some merch for yourself and let's get back to the video so the next fiber we're talking about is linen linen is very durable it has a cooling effect to it and it actually gets softer with each wash that you do which is pretty interesting I have actually never tried linen yarn but I do have a lot of linen clothing I went to Thailand and I brought a lot of linen because it's so hot there and it was awesome and very breathable there weren't a lot of linen out there honestly like there was nothing that was really like 100% linen I did find this one that's a blend I can't remember exactly what the blend blend is I think it might be cotton but it's called Lion Brand Touch of linen yarn which you can't really go wrong with linen it's a pretty good price and I would be interested in trying it but I have not tried it so if it's terrible I'm so sorry this is just the one that I looked up and thought it seemed interesting I should order it and try it sometime soon but lynon is a really great fiber for summer clothing all right the next fiber is bamboo I really like bamboo it's super soft it's eco friendly and it has a really nice drape to it so depending on what you're trying to make if you're making a super tight tank top you might not necessarily want a drape with bamboo yarn I actually brought something that I made this is a cute little skirt I will put more videos here so you can see it more like actually me wearing it but it has such a nice drape to it and I really really love it and it's so so soft so there are a lot of options out there for yarn but these are just the ones that I think sound good this yarn that I use for the skirt is we are knitts bamboo yarn I really really liked it this is just the natural color and I think it's such a pretty color I just I really like it it's so soft um the other one that I was looking at that I thought sounded interesting was um Premiere has one called bamboo Fair lower price and I can't remember if it was a blend or not I have my computer over here my the the premier bamboo fair is 60% bamboo and 40% cotton so it's not 100% bamboo like the we are knits is but still seems like an interesting try that would be good and also cotton is good obviously so I think it would be pretty good for that blend for bamboo Yarns highly recommend we are knits it is a little bit pricey which is unfortunate something I do want to mention though is that I don't know if you guys have seen Lion Brand trou it's 100% bamboo I have tried it and personally I do not like it it's almost like too silky in a way so I made this tank top and the seams up top right here like literally came undone which honestly I made it a while ago so it could be just that I didn't sew my ends in very well which could very well be the case but still it just like came out super easy it was just like too silky for me but this one is not that um we are knits so I know for sure that this one is super good the premier bamboo I would be interested in trying okay lastly we've talked a little bit about Blends but let's talk a little bit more about blends of these fibers the benefits of blends of fibers is that you're combining all the benefits all into one yarn which is awesome really like cotton Blends so anything with cotton added to it I think is great great one attribute of cotton is that it doesn't stretch a lot so if you're wanting like a tight fitting tank top or top that is it going to stretch out a lot you want to do cotton and you can easily mix it in with any other fiber um you could even do like acrylic and it's still going to keep it fairly tight rather than like 100% acrylic the one that I have tried myself that I have on my list of Blends that I like is this Hobie friends cotton and I really like this one I will put pictures of what I made with this this is just one of the colors that I use I really really like this it has super pretty colors to it this is a DK weight yarn and the fiber is 78% cotton and 22% silk I was going to put silk in the fibers listed in this video today but I just don't think there's a lot of good silk yarn out there that's like cheap so I didn't put it on here but when it's mixed in with like cotton I think it's really good and this one's just so nice and so breathable highly recommend and then one that I've been wanting to try but I just haven't tried yet and I don't know why I keep looking at it to make something with it but then I end up finding something else um is Lion Brand kubu so Lion Brand kubu is 51% cotton and 49% bamboo so it has a really good mix in between so I think it would have a really nice nice flow without being super stretchy and I've always I really want to try it every time I think about it it doesn't have the colors that I'm necessarily interested in so I haven't dove into it yet but I am really wanting to try it at some point and then here's one that I found with research on all these fibers that I have not tried but I would definitely be interested in trying it's Li brand cotton bamboo linen so it's all three fibers thrown into one and the stats for this one are 40% cotton 35% bamboo and 25% linen so it's taking all three benefits of each of the fibers and throwing it into one which sounds amazing and they have a decent range of colors not amazing but I would be really interested in trying it out all right so just to recap the best fibers for summer clothing are cotton linen and bamboo and potentially blends of that maybe even throwing a little silk in there these are the best that are going to be lightweight they're going to be breathable you're not going to be like sweating in this like super heavy garment during the summer these fibers are going to be what you want to go towards when creating summer outfits so all the yarn that I mentioned in this video can be linked below some of them are affiliate links and I'm also going to put the price with each of the Yarns as
