[Music] hey what's up Welcome to our house it's been a while since our last tour and a lot has changed so I'm excited to show you all my favorite smart home devices and automations that I'm using every single day so why don't we just get started right here in the family room over right here next to the couch I have the dashboard and this thing controls my entire house and it's really really easy to use and maybe too easy to use because my kids love coming over here and pressing the buttons and messing with my smart home ah so this dashboard is just running on a pixel tablet and what's cool is that when you walk up to it the screen turns on and there's a live feed of the doorbell right there in the middle and what's super convenient is if someone's at the door you just have to walk up to the dashboard and you can see who's at the door it's awesome but that's not the only way you can see who's at the door when you're watching TV and someone presses the doorbell you can see who's at the door on the TV and since I'm using an Apple TV and a doorbell that's connected to Apple home it automatically set this up I didn't have to do any kind of configuration for this to work which is just nuts the speakers that I'm using for the Apple TV are the homepods second gens and I hate giving Apple money but these homepods sound so good and they sync perfectly with the Apple TV I've tried other solutions that didn't work as well or didn't look as good and I had family uprisings on my hand because the tech wasn't working but ever since I switched to these home pods they work perfectly underneath I have some light strips and I think these are the best bang for your buck light strips because they're extremely inexpensive they have great cool and warm whites and even though they use Wi-Fi I have zero connection issues using them I have them synced with my room they do warm and cool lights and match all the colors and they work great so you might be wondering what TV we're using we're still using the frame TV the 65 inch and we snapped on the outside cover to match the other white picture frames nearby you can have artwork or even family pictures which we love displaying for everyone to see warning if you can't handle looking at cords you might want to look away it is a mess down here this is where the frame TV plugs in and we actually have it plugged into a smart outlet that can measure energy usage that way we can tell if the TV is playing something and if it is we can skip automations like don't turn on the lights for a motion if we're watching a movie at night I'm using the Hue motion sensor here in the family room and I don't think I've changed the AAA batteries in this sensor since I moved into the house about two and a half years ago the sensor is a beast but I don't know if I really need it here in this area anymore because I have the acara millimeter wave sensor covering this entire room and this sensor is crazy because it can sense multiple people at once and you can divide your room up into multiple zones and it knows where you are in the room [Music] another thing we added recently are these patio Shades to block out that scorching Arizona Sun and we had the professionals do it and it came with this little RF remote so I was able to connect the shades to our bond bridge and so our smart home can control the shades and I haven't quite automated it just yet but I plan on doing it but they make such a big difference I mean look how dark it makes this room so what we're talking about outside I'm still using unify and real link cameras around my house and those are both hardwired cameras and if you can ever use hardwired I highly recommend it because they're way more reliable and they record 24 7. and I still prefer unify because it's easier to use but after using real link for a while now it's definitely grown on me and it's less annoying and I really like the real link dual cam because it has two cameras pointing each Direction and it meshes them into one image and I love how much you can see for my front door lock I'm using the Schlage and code plus and this uses home key so you can just hold up your iPhone or your Apple watch and it will unlock the door and this comes in handy when you're coming back from a run and you're all sweaty or maybe you're just checking your mailbox here in Arizona and it's 115 degrees outside like it is now and you don't have to worry about a fingerprint or messing with a code or anything like that you just hold up your Apple watch and it unlocks the door or makes it so easy here in the kitchen we have a bunch of can lights in the ceiling and they're just dumb bulbs but they're controlled by a smart dimmer switch and if I could only have one smart device in my house it would be smart dimmer switches especially Lutron because they work so well and my family loves them but over here we have a device that saved my marriage it's the bulb in these pendant lights my wife wanted warm filament bulbs I wanted cool filament bulbs and luckily Hugh makes a smart filament bulb that can do both warm and cool whites problem solved marriage saved but these are smart bulbs and you don't want the power to be turned off if someone turned off the switch to them so I connected it to an innovale red on off switch and it always keeps power to the smart bulbs but I programmed them so that if you press on or off on the smart switch it will turn the bulb on or off so it works like a normal switch we have an ecobee thermostat in here and I love the ecobee thermostats but I wanted to improve the follow me feature so I added a bunch of these little devices everywhere for room presence detection so it can sense my Apple watch and if it's in the room it will make it colder just for me or if only my wife's in the room it will set the temperature the way she likes it it's pretty sweet and this Echo Show 15 we've been liking this it's my wife's favorite smart home device because it has the calendar and it's super easy to use they also added a feature where you can use a fire TV remote and you can watch TV and I've been doing that at lunch and I love it here in the pantry just off the kitchen we have what looks like a pet feeder but it's actually a candy dispenser and I've been using this to give my kids candy if they've completed some kind of game I built with my smart home and it's been so much fun my kids love it and I'm going to be using this candy dispenser to automate all the the chores in my house so you're not going to want to miss that video so make sure you hit that subscribe button here in the kitchen we're still using the home serum motion sensor with that RGB light and the way we're using the light is if someone opens up the garage door that light will turn red that way we don't accidentally leave the garage doors open [Music] this is my favorite room to hang out in we have a 120 inch screen with a 4K short throw projector uh Dolby Atmos surround sound a bunch of smart lights that turn on before you start watching something and all that might sound a little complicated to turn on every single time but I made it really simple check this out so you know how in movies or TV shows they can just hit something and it starts working well I made that you just hit the cabinets and then everything turns on all the shades are about to close the projectors turning on the stereo turns on all of that because there's a vibration sensor here underneath the cabinet and then it senses you hitting the cabinet and it'll turn everything on [Music] remember that time you said wow I'm so annoyed my Wi-Fi is too fast yeah no one's ever said that in the history of mankind this unified system is definitely Overkill but it handles all the smart home devices I can throw at it with no problem I also love that it connects to my home assistant setup so well if any device is connected or disconnects from Wi-Fi it shows up in my smart home so if my phone leaves it can run automations like starting up the robot vacuum and this is the roborock S7 Max V and this thing is a monster it has a camera in front so it can void all the kids toys it has a mop the dock will clean them up and it keeps our floors so clean we don't have like a five or ten second rule if food Falls onto the floor it's like a minute unless Luna's getting to a person yeah you probably shouldn't eat it then I'm still so mad at ring because if you buy a ring alarm system now you cannot get notified if your alarm is going off or disarm it from your phone unless you pay a monthly fee so ridiculous but if you have an older one like I do you don't have to pay a fee and I have ours fully automated so if everyone leaves it automatically arms which makes it so much nicer because it's just one less thing to worry about when you're heading out the door so here in the garage we have some LED lights on the ceiling and they're just plugged into some smart outlets and I have them automated so any of the doors open up to the garage they'll turn on and also have some motion sensors in here so it keeps the lights on if I'm hanging out in the garage for a long time and since my kids are seriously the most Reckless human beings on the face of the Earth if the door to the house opens up and the garage door is open all the lights will flash so if someone's pulling in a car it can keep a close eye out for any kids running up to the car so if your spouse ever says hey we don't need a smart home you can tell them that smart home save lives but yeah we're just using a MyQ garage door opener that's running all these automations connected to home assistant we're also using Tesla solar and power walls I ran into a few issues with the install and for like the first six months we had some speed bumps but ever since then it's been smooth sailing and I love our system now we have a zero dollar electric bill and that's even with charging the model y oh yeah we also have a minivan now yeah I'm a dad of three and I have a minivan what is my life coming to [Music] here in the front room I have a hidden NFC tag right behind this wall plate the reason I have this is if we're getting lots of motion notifications from the video doorbell I can just walk up and scan my phone on the NFC tag and it will temporarily disable the motion notifications the problem is I have a bunch of these NFC tags hidden behind wall plates all over the house for different automations and I forget where they are so yeah a slight problem here in the front room we also have a piano and sometimes my daughter was practicing without the lights on so I made it if any key plays the lights turn on and I'm just using a vibration sensor underneath the piano and it works pretty well we also have a record player over here and I don't have it automated yet I really want to because I think Tony Stark has his automated in Iron Man 3. Jarvis drop my needle so goals we're here in the master bedroom and over here in the corner I have an everything presence one and what's cool about this device is it has a motion sensor and a millimeter wave sensor built in together so the motion sensor will turn on the lights or open up the shades if someone walks in the room and the millimeter wave sensor will keep the lights on or keep the fan on if someone is still in the room so it makes automation so easy and I'm still using the Lutron Shades over here they're super quiet and they wake me up in the morning I love those Shades over on my nightstand I'm using the Google Nest Hub display too and I think it's perfect for a nightstand because it doesn't have a camera but you can still use hand gestures to play or pause music my wife is using the echo dot with clock on her nightstand and I have some light strips underneath my bed so that if I get out in the middle of the night they'll turn on from a motion sensor but my kids like to wrestle in here and they keep knocking down that motion sensor and it's still knocked down right now I haven't figured out a way to kid proof it yet so working on that and I have a whipping sleep sensor under my mattress and the way I use that is if I go lay down on my bed during the day or if I go to bed early it disables the motion sensor so the lights don't turn on and wake me up also if I'm sleeping in in the morning and I'm still in bed it will announce on the echo go jump on Dad and wake him up it's super effective and my kids love it here in the bathroom we've added a few new things one is a fingerprint door lock and I show this in the previous tour video but I liked it so much I've been adding them other places around our house and it's perfect for a bathroom because me and my wife can use our fingerprint go in and out of the bathroom but it keeps our kids out I also added some light strips and I'm automating these in a few different ways one is with a motion sensor so the light strips only turn on in the middle of the night and not the rest of the lights so we're not blinded when we need to use the bathroom I'm also using the light strips as like a shower timer so when I turn on the shower the light syrups will turn green when the water is warm because it takes forever for our water to warm up and then they'll change different colors when I need to wrap things up so I don't take a super long shower and sometimes the robot vacuum doesn't come back and clean this area much because maybe some of the doors are closed and block it so I added a button [Music] right here in this drawer you press it and the robot vacuum will clean just this room and so it's super convenient [Music] outside our office we have another one of those fingerprint door locks and the reason I have it in here is because we have a 3D printer now and I don't want my kids coming in here and messing with it while it's running or even burning themselves so I'll often lock that door and I use this 3D printer all the time for my smart home I'll print cases and lots of little things I didn't realize I needed and yeah it's come in handy there's not a whole lot of new tech here in the office it's a lot of stuff I've been using for years like that Bond Hub I mentioned that one Hub automates and controls all the fans in my entire house so if you ever need to get a smart fan get one with an RF remote get a bond Hub yeah it works great but we let our baby crawl around here and she just destroys us so it's a really big mess in here so let's get out here foreign speaking of the baby here in her room we have a few different things that are helpful one is an echo Dot and it does a really good job at detecting when she's crying so we'll get a notification on our phone or our lights will Flash in our bedroom when she's crying but it only happens if her door is closed and the lights are off that way if we're changing her diaper the notifications aren't just flying off the chart we also have a Gobi lamp and these things are pretty sweet because they double as a sound machine and they can do different colors and different like little effects so even my bigger kids like playing with this like it will do like a green light and jungle noises and stuff so yeah it's pretty cool so here in my studio I have the best looking thing in our house they're the DIY I'm not including you on that so here in my studio I have the second best looking things in our house these are some DIY light strips I just put up and they look amazing because they're the Cobb style and dream colors so they can do multiple colors at once and you can't see the LEDs so yeah they look incredible foreign I also have a Ikea Sonos lamp over here with a lifx bulb in there a lot of people ask about that I don't think Ikea makes this lamp anymore or they make a different version over on the door I have a vibration sensor on here so if I'm working and I have my busy light on that's in the hallway and my kids come up and like bang on the door that vibration sensor will kick off a bunch of different automations to distract my kids it works like a charm here at my desk I have a stream deck and I use this all the time for editing but I also use it to control my smart home I have buttons to control the shades fans lights thermostat everything right here it's super convenient and it's basically an unlimited amount of smart buttons for your smart home but you do need to have it plugged into your computer for it to work so if you're sitting at a computer a lot it's a pretty sweet device I love these types of videos and some of you suggested that I show more of your automation so let's do it if you want me to go to your house and film some of the crazy automations that you've set up then click the link below and if your house looks different than mine that's great because we need some variety and I can't wait to see what you guys have set up thanks for watching make a tour of our Barbie dream house when I said tour I didn't really mean well it's not even yeah how bad no way RGB pool wait that's pretty cool smart toilet automated trash shoot that's a slide Smart TV horrible viewing angle I have the elevator okay that's nice Off the Grid sword come on that's a sticker of course it's off the grid foreign
