Lecture on Surrender

surrender what does it really mean to surrender the possibility to surrender comes to the Forefront when the exhaustion of trying reaches its peak trying to do spiritual practice trying to awaken trying to accept trying to be open trying to make your experience something other than it is right now or even unconsciously trying to be more to be lovable with the opportunity to surrender comes a question how to we must be vigilant not to make it into a mental effort of trying to surrender or trying to understand how to surrender which will only keep us attached to our left brain fear-based analytical worldview we have to build do muscle and practice how to relax at will and how to shift from the left hemisphere to to the right hemisphere of our brain from resistance to being one with the universe so perhaps a better word for surrender would be softness tenderness or loving kindness and you can pay attention to how easy it is to have that inner attitude of loving kindness and tenderness when the event is Pleasant although in that case the mind doesn't want to let go and clings to the experience sometimes for many years to come but when life comes and rocks your world and there is loss of some kind or pain involved then it becomes impossible to surrender the Mind finds it hard to surrender to the experience that it really doesn't want so then it's better to turn our attention to softness loving kindness and inner tenderness tenderness is the same as surrender surrender is tenderness tenderness towards your experience tenderness towards your experience doesn't mean you send words of kindness towards that which was the cause of pain or suffering whether it's another person or an event in your life it is not about using the mind to do tenderness tenderness it's what remains when you stop giving attention to the narrative tenderness softness is what remains when there's no attempt to fix the world to fix ourselves or to fix the relationship therefore surrendering means turning your attention from the story and the attempt to fix or change it to the tenderness and the softness that is here already with complete acceptance of the way things are relaxing all effort or resistance is tenderness tenderness towards your experience is a way of Liberation wholeness and compassion towards all things light or heavy remember surrender is not a mental doing but an effortless relaxation of attention into the great inner yes to what was what is and what will be [Music] [Laughter] a [Music]
