Overview of Macbeth's Tragic Ambition

[Music] the war is won in scotland king duncan has just fought off an invasion from rebels the king's generals macbeth and banquo return home victorious but are stopped by three hideous witches with ugly beards and crooked teeth they prophesy that macbeth will be king they also tell banquo his children will one day rule as well banquo is creeped out and leaves immediately but macbeth excitedly tells his wife lady macbeth she is so hungry for power that her mind turns evil she convinces macbeth that he must kill king duncan and steal the throne that night while lady macbeth drugs duncan's guards macbeth sneaks into duncan's chambers and stabs him when mcduff duncan's loyal ally discovers the king dead in his chambers he cries out fearing for their lives duncan's sons malcolm and donald bain flee the country macbeth is crowned king unopposed but he is haunted by the murder and begins to kill everyone who threatens him since his sons were prophesied to be kings banquo is the first to go but fortunately banquo's son flyonce escapes scared for his throne macbeth seeks the witches again this time visions appear showing that macbeth can't be hurt by any man born of woman and until the trees of burnham wood a forest near macbeth's castle start walking meanwhile macduff and malcolm raise an army against macbeth learning of this macbeth slaughters macduff's family a battle begins but lady macbeth can't live with her guilt anymore she commits suicide and macbeth becomes all mopey and existential then in the battle the trees of burnham wood start moving it's macduff's army disguised as trees the prophecy comes true at last the pig-headed macbeth confronts mcduff what could go wrong no man born of woman can kill him except macduff is not born of woman he was born through a caesarean in one swing mcduff cuts off macbeth's head malcolm is crowned king of scotland everyone celebrates because well people stop getting murdered we hope you enjoyed this schooling online production for more easy lessons on macbeth check out our analysis of all the themes within the play
