[Music] back in 1990 when I had this first idea of the Strand Beast as you know Holland is quite low some parts are even below sea level so we are quite funable for the sea this idea came up to protect the country by building animals sort of robots well not robots but these kind of wind powered structures made of this kind of tube which with gut a sand on the beach and they would build Dunes the start of using this kind of tube was of course economics it's very cheap and it's very very available and then I noticed that while working with it there grew a relation between the the tubes and me and I found out that you can do all kind of things with these tubes every time there was a New Horizon opened especially the Horizon that you could use this tube also to make pistons and you could make pumps and once you can make pumps you can also make a sort of air switches and once you have a lot of nerve cells then you can make networks of nerve cells and muscles and then you have a sort of brain these are the first muscles and these are the first uh nerve cells here so that's when those crank Chef came in there and later this ones and these were a little bit better in every Beach animal there's a spine and uh the spine makes a circular movement and this circular movement is transformed to a walking Movement by lots of tubes now this way of moving is very much depending on the length of the tubes between the spine and the toe I programmed 1500 legs in the computer and all these legs had random lengths of tubes so you get also, 1500 random movements of the toe and this process of uh of reproduction and selection went on for month day and night and at the end of the process there came 13 numbers out of this Atari computer and these were the 13 numbers I needed to build the lag system and indeed when I had built it then indeed the animals stayed on the same level they didn't tou up and down so that was the Big Miracle in of the beasts now this 30 numbers you can see as the genetic code of the Strand beasts they infected me in fact with that cold so they poisoned me first and now the poison is going to the rest of the world [Music]
