Professor: Hello everyone, this week we're gonna learn a few more things in AutoCAD in the past few weeks I believe you already learned a lot of useful tools on your toolbars as well as on your status bar in this video I'm gonna show you two more useful settings on your status bar and another several useful tools on your drawing and modify toolbars in the past few weeks you probably already learn how to turn on and turn off your grid mode and snap mode if you put your cursor near to the icon it will automatically give you the information first one is grid mode and then snap mode the third one is ortho mode and then polar tracking today we're going to learn other to use for settings on your status bar the first one is auto snap which is also called O-Track in the old version of AutoCAD like AutoCAD 2014 the other one is called OSNAP the OSNAP setting can snap your cursor to some specific 2D reference point if you open the drop-down menu you will see a lot of option for you to choose make sure you check the endpoint midpoint Center point geometric Center those are very common specific points that we need to snap and you can also check intersection extension perpendicular and tangent okay so let's check all those options and then we can see how they will work. If I want to draw a tangent line of a circle by turning on the osnap and snap tracking, AutoCAD can easily help us to capture the center of the circle and the tangent point If I turn off the snap tracking you can see there somehow I lose the green dashed line of my cursor. It is kind of inconvenient so I turn on the snap tracking again and you see that the green dashed line come back and somehow this can guide us to find out the specific points that we want to locate and I can easily draw a horizontal tangent line for this circle press ENTER and finish your drawing now let's take a look at another example about how to use OSNAP and snap tracking, here I have a rectangle right here and if I want to draw a middle line of this rectangle we can do the same saying first choose the line command and then make sure that down here on the status bar you will check the geometric centre after you check that it will easily help you to get the geometric center and then easily help you to track down both middle points off the sides the other thing we should note is that right now my ortho mode is on. If I turn it off you can see that the line can be drawn in any directions. If I turn it on, you will see that the line can only be restricted to the grid line it either can be vertical or horizontal. okay next I'm gonna show you two more useful tools on your modify toolbar the first tool I'm gonna show you is called trim it can help you trim off some lines that you don't need here I got a piggy on my screen and you know he's bad if you play Angry Bird before. Okay before we start to use trim let me show you one more thing I believe that you already know how to use the HATCH tool you can use this tool to assign a specific color to a closed area. Let's first try to assign a pattern to the nose of this piggy after you pick up the area press enter and then pick up the solid pattern right here click okay and then you can pick up whatever color you want okay you will see that there will be overlapped area in the nose that can't be colored let's go back and use a trim tool to resolve this problem let's click trim then select "boundary" then we can cut the line that we don't need similar thing here there are some overlap areas between the head and the ear let's use trim again to cut them off first you can type in trim and then select the boundary we can select the head at the boundary and then we can cut off those lines that we don't need here we go now you can see that we can't really clean the figure of that piggy in the Angry Bird let's quickly use the hatch again to assign some colors to this piggy and we will proceed to the next tool again go to hatch and select the solid pattern click OK and pick up some color that close to dark green right here click OK and then you see that we got a dark green nose for this piggy hatch again and pick up some other areas the head and the ears and assign light green to them click OK the last thing is coloring the eyes hatch again select those two areas and simply pick up the white color for them here we go click OK now you can see there we got a green bad piggy on our screen okay the next tool I'm gonna show you is mirror the mirror tool can help us to create a mirror image for the selected objects in order to get a mirror image we're gonna need a reference line or mirror line turn on the ORTHO mode and drawing a vertical line right here we will use this line as a mirror line now I'm going to mapping this whole piggy as a mirror image to the other side of the reference line let's click the mirror tool it first asked us to select the objects we select the whole picture the second step will be finding two points on the mirror line okay let me go back and start over sharing one more time first click the mirror tool and select all the objects you want to be used to create a mirror image press Enter and go to the second step in the second step it will ask you to pick up two points on the mirror line with osnap you can easily pick up the midpoint and end points and you can easily create the mirror image okay please practice on this for your assignment this week please also start to review all the materials in the past few weeks and get ready for the first midterm exam thank you for watching
