Exploring Mexico City: Top 7 Recommendations

welcome to the hustling and bustling mexico city mexico city is the largest city in north america and there's a countless number of unique and interesting places that are an absolute must visit when you're out here but given the size of the city it might be difficult to experience everything it has to offer if you're just here for a few days and that's exactly why in this video i wanted to make things easier for you guys and share with you my top 7 recommendations for places that you should consider checking out when in mexico city if you guys do find this video helpful please consider subscribing to this channel so i can continue making more videos like these in the future for you guys now let's jump right into it the first place on the list is the zocalo which is the main public square and one of the most recognizable spots in mexico city zocalo has been a centerpiece of public gatherings and ceremonies since the days of the aztecs and a lot of national events and festivals are still held there it's also surrounded by several historic buildings including the city's national palace and cathedral i can tell that i've made it to the zokolo from all the military and the police presence around in the area i don't think this is the center because the center is like somewhere over there i just don't know how to get there i'm trying to figure that out the architecture around in this place is worth admiring it's absolutely beautiful just check this out [Music] right in the center of the square you'll find one of the biggest mexican flags you've ever seen and i suggest going there before sunset because every evening mexican soldiers march out to the center of the square to take down this flag however the timings for this parade are very inconsistent and honestly nobody really knows the exact time it starts or ends so make sure you get there at least 30 to 40 minutes before sunset if you don't want to risk missing it like i did looks like i'm a little too late because the mexican flag has already been taken down so that's where the mexican flag usually is it's i don't get it it's not even sunset yet maybe they do it like a little bit before sunset also it does get pretty crowded out there after the flag ceremony ends because a lot of people are trying to leave all at the same time but if you hang around there for an extra 10 to 15 minutes it will give the crowd enough time to clear up and it also gives you a great opportunity to take photos as now there's a lot less people photobombing you the next place on the list is the chapultepec park which fun fact by the way is the largest public park in the western hemisphere i have made it here to chapultepec park right now i'm just walking down this pathway that they have here in this park and just on either side there's these vendors selling all sorts of stuff their snacks foods toys all sorts of accessories and everything is actually really really cheap there is so much to experience inside this green oasis including museums monuments activities like paddle boarding one of the world's most visited zoos and even a magnificent castle which was unfortunately closed on the day that i tried to visit so i don't really have any footage from there if there's one advice i can give you guys if you're coming to this park do not wear cut sleeves like i am or wear shorts because the mosquitoes out here will literally suck the life out of you this park stretches over 1600 acres and is divided into three separate sections so you'll have to definitely come back more than just once if you want to experience everything this place has to offer and after all the walking around you'll eventually get pretty hungry but don't worry because throughout the park you'll find tons of stands selling local snacks and treats ranging from fresh fruit fried empanadas to tartars and tostadas next up on the list is one of my favorite areas in mexico city and that is roma norte roma is the hipster heart of the city and is filled with boutiques cafes restaurants and is also close to some of mexico city's biggest attractions one of the first things that i've noticed about this place is there's a lot of greenery here it's got a very like bohemian vibe but this area definitely seems a little bit more upscale or or i should say a little bit more expensive than the area that i was in before here you will find a lot of young professionals working out of coffee shops and is also a popular area to stay in amongst expats because of its safe and central location and when it comes to food there is a countless amazing options available at your disposal offering every type of cuisine you can possibly imagine it also bothers with another really cool area called candesa which has a very similar european vibe and i highly recommend that you visit both of them i've already made a full video about roma norte which i will leave a link to in the description in case if you guys are interested in checking it out now moving on to the next place on the list which is the tore latino americana building located in central head up to the observation deck located on the 44th floor of the building to get the best panoramic view of mexico city so we're now at the entrance of the toure latino building there is an entrance fee you have to get a ticket and there's around 140 pesos which is around 8.85 canadian or seven usd [Music] this building was the tallest skyscraper in latin america when it was first constructed in 1956 and still remains an iconic part of the city's skyline so one of the things that i think is really really cool about mexico city is that it's such a good mix of like both old and new and what i really mean by that is like if you look right there we've got all these like modern you know skyscrapers and buildings that you can see in the distance but then if i like kind of move over here we've got a bit of like that historic architecture we've got philosophy which is just such a beautiful museum right there if you just look around all these buildings are just you know like super like historic it kind of looks like the empire state building in new york and because this building can be seen from pretty much anywhere in downtown it's a great way to check if you're heading in the right direction when you're out exploring the city there's also an on-site museum which is included in the admission fee but i decided not to go in because i'm not super into museums other thing worth mentioning is that there's also a bar located in the building and you can get free admission to the observation deck simply if you just purchase a drink overall i definitely think it's worth visiting the top because it gives you a unique appreciation for the incredible size of mexico city next place that i recommend visiting is museo sumaya which is a very futuristic looking art museum owned by carlos slim one of the wealthiest men in the world who named the museum after his deceased wife somaya this museum right here displays carlos slim's private art collection of over 66 000 pieces of works from over 30 centuries there's altogether nine floors and five different galleries in this museum which are connected by a sequence of spiral ramps and inside these galleries you'll find works from some of history's most notable artists like rhoden and dally generally i'm not the kind of person who visits a lot of art museums but i was so glad i decided to visit this one because it truly was one of a kind the area this museum is located in is the most influential part of mexico city and that brings us to the next place on this list polanco is also referred to as the beverly hills of mexico and is known for its luxury stores high networth individuals and upscale hotels and restaurants along president missouri the street that i'm currently on is called presidente mesarek this is actually the most expensive street in mexico and some even call it the beverly hills of mexico and just by looking around i can tell that people that are walking on the street do have some money to spare even if you look at the stores around me i see a gucci right there there's a huge boss and pretty much this entire street all the way down to the very end is packed with all these luxury stores which to be honest i can't really afford to shop in yet but maybe one day it's definitely a very cool neighborhood to walk around in and get a taste of how mexico city's ultra rich people live polanco has a mix of spanish colonial revival buildings and modern architecture which gives this neighborhood a very exciting and dynamic energy not only that but polanco is also home to two of the world's top rated restaurants kent o'neil and puyol so if you're a foodie this place will be a paradise for you but if you're on a budget and don't feel like spending the extra pesos polanco is still a great place to go people watching and if you step away from presidente missouri you should still be able to find some affordable food options out there i've also already made a full video on polanco and we'll leave the link in the description if you guys want to check it out afterwards [Music] lastly if you're a thrill seeker like me and want to do something a bit different then you should visit the six flags amusement park in mexico city this place is located about 30 minutes from downtown and it's absolutely massive which makes it almost impossible to experience all of it in just one day so we have made it inside the park and the weirdest thing just happened i was trying to pay for the tickets and the guy asked me for my credit card and instead of passing me the terminal so that i could type my pin he asked me what my pin was which is just super weird and honestly kind of felt sketchy because i've never had anyone ask me for my credit card pin before but either way uh two tickets were around 1200 pesos but i think it's around like 35 dollars per person from insane roller coasters to river rapids and dolphin shows this park has something to offer for all ages and tastes although just a couple of things that you should be aware of before going is that almost everything inside is extremely overpriced and the lineups for some of the popular rides could be almost as long as two hours so unless if you buy an express pass you might find yourself spending more time wearing in lines than enjoying the rides so i've managed to convince lenny to come on a water slide with me and i'm actually so excited for that because water slides are one of the reasons why i love amusement parks i just love apparently getting splashed also make sure to bring an extra set of clothes if you plan on going on any of the water rides other than that it's a great way to spend a day in mexico city with your family friends or your significant other [Music] so this will be it for the video i hope you guys enjoyed it and found it somewhat helpful if
