Whoop Strap Experience and Insights

i've worn this computer chip on my arm for nearly a thousand days here are five ways how the whoops trap has changed my sleep my fitness and my life but first three dangers of fitness tracking one ortho insomnia if you track your sleep it might give you anxiety because of the numbers and then you'll have trouble sleeping because you're tracking your sleep so be careful number two this is not a medical device this is a consumer wearable that's gonna help give you some information take it all with a grain of salt number three our feelers leader dr huberman does not wear a sleeper fitness tracker this is why i don't wear a sleep tracker if you tell people they slept poorly your recovery score sucks they naturally perform less well the next day than if you tell them your recovery score is high but huberman did mention recently on his ig live that he's bullish on woo this was august 19 2022 not sure how much they paid him now the user experience and ease of use one of the biggest problems with sleep and fitness tracking is if you don't wear the device if you don't use the device it's really a paperweight so it needs to be easy to use and pretty much integrate effortlessly into your lifestyle one of the things that i love about the whoop strap is you essentially never take it off i wear this device on my arm when i need to charge it the charging unit goes on the actual loop strap itself and really the only time that i'll take it off is if i'm trying to change bands or if i'm using their woot body clothing stuff but their ceo ah man just talked about how every time you take a device off like for example when i put my apple watch on the charger there's a friction point to putting it back on right there's so many times i've left my apple watch on the charger and i forgot to put it back on but because i'm always wearing the whoop strap i essentially never take it off and then when i do i feel naked without it so it's like become a part of my body and when i first bought the whoop strap i wanted to return it but because it was just so easy to use and it just like stayed on my body i just kept using it i haven't played with a wearable that is just so frictionless to integrate in your own life and if you do plan to buy one use my affiliate link down below it helps support the channel now sleep and recovery now one of the challenges that i've had is falling and staying asleep at night waking up and feeling refreshed and then just being able to focus throughout the day and there's been a lot of talk that if you can manage your sleep if you can get good enough sleep for you you'll be able to have a super productive day so i wanted to learn how can i improve my sleep by tracking but we all know the trend is your friend and the thing i love about the woof strap is in terms of how it displays my sleep to me it makes it super simple it's like a red yellow and green light i open the app and i can see a whole bunch of data but it's just these colors that create this behavior change of what i did yesterday was it good or bad for me and then if i really want to dive deeper into that data i can go tap through these menus and be able to see my time in bed my time of sleep my heart rate variability my resting heart rate my respiratory rate all the different sleep stages and this data is valuable but sometimes it's easy just to be able to see good job or bad job so that simplicity that they put over this data is really valuable and the next user experience piece is the trend is your friend every single sleep and fitness tracker is going to provide slightly different data if you look at my woop versus or ring data you can see here even the trends over time are slightly different no one is going to be exactly perfect because these are consumer devices not medical devices so where the extreme value comes in is noticing trends over time and woof will give me a weekly report and a monthly report based on data that i've inputted as well as data that they passively track on my body but i really do love their monthly performance assessments in terms of making sure that i'm sleeping better and feeling better i know the aura ring and some other wearables are starting to integrate these kind of trends over time but woof was the first and woof has done it the best so far i'm hoping they'll start to push each other to be better now fitness and workout tracking the next reason i wanted to get the whoop is because i struggle to stay motivated to work out it's all about developing habits showing up at the gym even i struggle with the desire to want to show up at the gym and i was like what if i have a wearable that's going to tell me where my resting heart rate is how my workouts are doing and couldn't motivate me and push me to do more workouts because consistency is more powerful than having a really intense workout once the one thing that i like and don't like about the woop is it's very focused on cardiovascular effort so what i did like is that it motivated me to do more cardiovascular workouts it didn't motivate me to do strength training workouts as much but since i do strength training a lot and i'm not a cardiovascular person has motivated me to start swimming more running more doing any kind of hit exercise and workouts and that's the reason i kept wearing it i was like oh there's a strain coach it's saying i recovered this percentage from last night's sleep and i should try to hit this cardiovascular load which is their strain whenever you're trying to close your circles there's this odd desire and motivation want to close that it's like this gamification aspect of wanting to do more cardiovascular workout if you're someone who does a lot of running or anything that's cardio based the whoop is probably better for you to try to achieve that goal or if you have that motivation to want to do more cardio workout the way i use mine is i actually start and stop my workouts on my apple watch and then it takes those start stop times pulls it into the whoop app and then it aggregates all that data using the heart rate data from my loop strap one thing to note is the calorie counts from these fitness tracking workouts they can be off the woof is definitely much lower the apple watch is much higher both of them are pretty inaccurate from the research that i've seen they'll take all this information with a grain of salt but it is interesting to kind of see the average heart rate data and compare the two and the average calories burned between the two here's some like screenshots of my workouts and now habit and lifestyle behavior changes now i've always struggled with changing my lifestyle habits and behaviors and i wanted to see if there was a tool that could help guide me in terms of this is a good behavior or this is a bad behavior boob strap has this instrumental feature that i don't think anyone has fully done a good job of integrating it maybe asleep is the closest one but it's the journal feature every time i open my woop app in the morning it'll pop up a set of questions that i've custom picked and i can say yes or no and then i can even put in data of how much time and then over time in the monthly performance reports it's going to give me data in terms of is this behavior good for my sleep and recovery or is this behavior bad well alcohol is extremely bad so it kind of shames you for out drinking alcohol it's been a great device that has motivated me to drink a lot less alcohol and then when it comes to making sure i'm getting enough sleep so even just like meeting my sleep time my sleep need has been great for my recovery so that motivation of hey i need to spend x hours in bed to get x hours of sleep so that way i can be recovered and feel well and perform at my best one of my biggest tips is don't put too many things in your journal pick like two to three and do that consistently for 30 days learn and then change your journal prompts i think understanding hey does magnesium does eating late says watching the sun rise these impact how i recover how i sleep and there's no tool that makes it so seamless and so easy to just check a box every day and then give you a report at the end of the month it's like your own personal digital coach and i take all this performance assessment with a grain of salt right there's some that show like three percent improvement or three percent it's bad for you what i do do is they say hey if it's over 20 over 10 then i know that it's pretty instrumental in terms of impacting my life if it's like three to five percent it could be other variables impacting it so take it all with a grain of salt this digital wearable coach also has some other features that i really like which is the strain code so it pushes me to do more cardiovascular workouts to get my heart rate higher because i want to achieve excess strain based on my recovery from the previous day sleep coach it tells me hey you should go to bed at this certain time if you want to peak if you want to get by or if you want to perform tomorrow and then this even has a little built-in vibration alarm so if i want to wake up when my recovery is green or if i want to wake up at an exact time then i can even set that in the loop strap to set off the alarm one thing i have noticed is it's pretty easy to turn the alarm off by just tapping it and i have turned it off a couple of times uh it just depends on how responsive you are to vibrations on your wrist for me i can sleep through this stuff so well and the last lifestyle behavior feature that i really love is the health monitor this will display kind of my health status for the day where it's my skin temperature my respiratory rate my heart rate and all this information so i can see my typically within what bounds i am or am i trending outside of it so one thing i've noticed is when i have like a big bucket of ice cream right before bed my skin temperature will go up if i drink alcohol my skin temperature and maybe my respiratory rate will go up so it's these behaviors that put me outside of these bounds of the health monitor that i've been like okay when i see yellow and red i probably shouldn't be doing what i did yesterday now loop if you're watching this these are my dream requests i want the woop to work without my phone i want to ideally have a way where it can just download the data connect to my hub maybe and then that uploads it to the router and wi-fi and i don't have to deal with my phone and i only check it on certain specific scenarios where i need to unless i can use my phone the better do is allow full access to my data i know some people have mentioned it's really hard to extract and export your data they're only giving api access to certain companies i'm paying you every month give me access now if you plan to buy a whoop strap make sure to use my affiliate link down below it helps support the channel and i can keep making videos like this now social and community features i do have a woop team you can use that code team code down below if you buy a whoop and my affiliate link you can join my woop team which is super fun we can chat i'll send my youtube videos in that and we can share exchange ideas about our performance and lifestyles and it's like a way to inspire each other to be healthier right surrounding yourself with a community of people who are trying to live healthier lives sleep better eat better it just promotes and helps you be a little bit healthier in life and we can see all of our data so you can see how i sleep every night as well so i love the woof camera feature because then i can share this on social media and it's just a fun way to share my heart rate live i also love that they have strava integration so it'll publish all my workouts to strava and then now apple health they'll pull and push information in my workouts to apple health the woof strap isn't the only device that's changed my life go watch my video on the aura ring and how i wore that for a thousand days linked right here peace
