there are a total of eight new weapon classes in this elder ring DLC and we are going to be ranking all of them from worst to best based on how well they perform in PVE now this is not going to be as objective as some of my other types of videos as there is like a lot that goes into what makes a weapon class really good A lot of these might be better in certain situations compared to other weapon classes and certain play Styles might be better with certain types of other weapon classes too so you can just treat this video as like my overall thoughts and opinions for every single weapon class but we're just going to be ranking them for fun as well now the criteria is also going to incorporate how good their options actually are so I'm not going to really just talk about the weapon class as it pertains to just like one weapon I'm going to like talk about all of their options and typically the ones that get the best options is going to end up on top but yeah let's just get into it starting off at the bottom we have the throwing blades category which there is quite literally only one weapon in this class in the Smith script dagger now yes there are a bunch of other Smith script weapons that can do a throwing attacks but this is the only one that gets throwing light attacks so it's going to be the only one in this class and it's just not good at all they did this recently get buffed to get a little bit of an increase in terms of its range which actually is pretty noticeable you can actually take a few steps further back and actually steal hits with it which is very nice but like the damage is awful The Stance damage is horrendous the DPS is just going to be worse than like every other weapon class in this game and the fact that it is a projectile when you going up against these like smaller enemies that do like to react to these projectile attacks they're just going to dodge them a whole bunch and the fact that it's just not going to be like that fast of a projectile that does have no tracking it's going to be harder to hit these enemies that are very mobile as well so against a lot of these enemies and bosses you're only going to benefit if you're at really close range and in that instance you better off using like any other type of weapon and even looking at their weapon skill options being that the weapon itself does bad range all of these weapon skill options are just going to be better with almost any other weapon type now it does get some unique ones in piercing thr and Scatter shot throw piercing throw is still just going to be mediocre the only benefit is that it can go through enemies scatter shot throw is actually amazing if you pair this weapon alongside a blood infusion and just going into scatter shot throw this thing can be very viable but in that instance you can literally just use the claws of Knight because that weapon also does get bleed does get scattershot throw and it's going to be a claw which is just going to get more damage than the Smith script dagger so like the most viable way to build around the weapon is just going to be directly outclassed by another weapon in this DLC but when it comes to the other Smith script weapons I might as well just talk about them as well they're also just not going to be good they obviously did just get patched to where like that bonus damage that they were getting with elemental infusions is no longer the case so now that just do terrible damage and do have horrendous heavy attacks they do really bad damage they do like 10 times stance damage than like the weapons would normally get and they just consume so much stamina even if you use all the Buffs in the world to help boost the damage it's still not going to be that viable the only one that I actually kind of like would be the Smith script Hammer this one can actually do respectable damage and some nice stance damage although it is going to be a longer animation that does still consume a lot of stamina if it was just one or the other it would be nice but there's like way too many downsides for all these Smith script weapons except for the shield because for that one the projectile is tied to the skill and weapon skills actually do good damage in this game and also if you wanted to spec around heavy attack types of builds the best weapon skills to use will be things like Royal KN resolve and crack blade and you can't even Infuse these weapons with those skills either but yeah all of these Smith script projectile based weapons they just need a whole complete to rework or at the very least just give it a buff in terms of damage and less stamina cost and have like the only trade-off being just less stance damage if that was the actual case then it end being a lot better but at the moment these are just noted number seven the perfume bottles The only positive thing that I can say about it is that at least it does have viable damage because everything else about it is just not good the move sets are still very slow get stuck in these long animations they don't really have much range either because like they don't really take that much of a step forward and it kind of looks like it's supposed to have good range but it's like deceptively short range I'll use things like curve swords and straight swords and because it lunges with every single swing it feels like it just hits further these things also just get terrible stance damage like you're never going to proc a stance break with these things ever and even if you do you can't really do anything about it because you can't get critical attacks which means you can't get backstabs these things have like this really bad DPS that don't really work with many different types of Buffs like you basically have to use the perfume bottle Talisman and even then it's still very mediocre and in terms of their Ash of raw options they're obviously not going to get much they do have a couple of unique ones and one being wall of Sparks which is just not that good at all because it's kind of just directly outclassed by the heavy attack which the heavy attack still isn't even that good a rolling Sparks is going to be your best option obviously it did get nerfed very heavily but it's still going to be viable to use against larger types of bosses because the projectile can explode and hit them multiple times and in terms of their options they do get like a couple of status effect options but they still take a long time to proc statuses like the chilling perfume bottle you could just use like any Frost infused weapon and it could just proc Frost like twice as fast at least we do have a lightning bottle that can actually scale off both faith and dexterity which is very cool we'd like to have faith lightning weapons the deadly poison perfume bottle does have a skill that can like instantly proc poison on yourself and surrounding enemies and you don't even need to have the requirements for it which is also pretty cool there can be certain circumstances of which this can be useful proba not as a primary based option but the skill can be nice but yeah this is just another weapon class that is in need of a buff they kind just have slow move sets low damage no stance damage no critical attack options poor weapon skill options like there's too many downsides there needs to be like only a couple number six the Beast claws now these are just not bad by any means I did use these a whole bunch even in my first playthrough I even killed like the final boss my first time using Beast claws but the entire time that I use them I just always think why am I just not using regular claws because they're just better they can output way higher DPS way easier to use faster attacks just as much stance damage better weapon skill options they can also proc blade they get 110 crit like there's so many like positives that they have going for them that it kind of just leaves the Beast claws just left in the dust now that's not to say that they're going to be useless there are a couple of things that they do have going for them one is going to be the red bear claw specifically its skill the skill Red Bear Hunt is actually really good it can output high amounts of damage it stun locks very nicely procs bleed very quickly too only downside is that you don't get Hy Rama and it does consume a lot of stamina so it's not really spam friendly but this is definitely the most viable way to build around the Beast claw just spamming this one particular skill and also I do like their running attacks the running light and heavy attacks are very quick they can stun lock quickly can do some nice damage they're not too bad in terms of their Ash of War options raging beast and Savage cause they're both decent raging Beast does serve as like a nice ey frame Dodge into a quick attack very similar to like blind spot is for like the backhanded blades but just like nowhere near as good because that one just does more damage faster this one has to do like a jumping attack first which is going to be a longer animation you do also get another followup input that is going to be another jumping attack and these just don't get hyper armor you can get staggered out of them they're not really going to be doing that good of damage either I kind of wish this ash of War just worked as like a simple like iframe Dodge into a quick like double swiping attack that can like stun lock and just do nice damage instead of doing this whole like jump into this like one hit slam that doesn't really hit that hard now in terms of savage claws I think this one is going to be the better option purely because it does stun lock those smaller enemies now if you're not fighting those smaller types of enemies I would bother using it still cuz it means you're going to get stuck in a longer animation you can like cancel like the last part of it but it's just going to be like the last part like the first like three quarters of the animation cannot be canceled but in terms of like their light attacks I don't really like them that much because you have to do like this little like running charge first which means that you can close the distance nicely but it just like prolongs the animation and it's like to the point where it's like you can get like an attack off faster with like a great hammer than you could with like Beast claws now the followup light attacks can be kind of nice but they're still swinging like one after the other so like you're DPS is still going to be much higher with claws and in terms of their heavy attacks they don't really do that higher stance damage they're still going to get like less stance damage and like a regular fist weapon and those are just going to be like 10 times faster now it is going to have your character just like jump all over the place which might make them harder to get hit but that's probably something more useful for PVP than it is for PVE number five the thrusting Shields now the best part about these weapons is going to be its versatility the fact that you can get a decent shield and actually attack and get some nice damage and get blocking frames throughout animations like block and attack at the same time and also just do some nice stance damage while just doing piercing damage with every single attack too which piercing damage is as I always say the best damage type in the game and it means you can get a bunch of like poking attack types of Ashes of wall which are typically just going to be some of the best in the game and things like impaling thrust giant hunt flame spear all of these options are just amazing but it is still going to be a shield so you can actually pair it alongside some Shield based ashes of War paired alongside some Shield Buffs and be able to block a lot of damage and just keep spamming the light attacks which these light attacks are very fast and they each do 12 stance damage which is like just as much as a colossal sword now unfortunately the heavy attacks do really bad stance damage they only do like 20 something which for comparison a regular medium Shield does more stance damage on a Charged heavy attack than a thrusting Shield does that is very annoying but I think the most disappointing thing about these thrusting Shields is that when you do have these things infused which is like the optimal way to build around them in terms of just like maximizing your damage it just makes the shield version just inherently worse and it's to the point where I'd never really want to use it as a shield and I just much rather have like a regular shield and weapon combo because you're just probably going to get better blocking and just better damage because it's not like these things do like amazing damage they're still just going to be Shields like it's perfectly fine to when like I Infuse a regular shield and I lose that on a bit of guard boost or a bit of guarded damage dation but why does it work that way with a thrusting Shield too like I should be able to get the best of both worlds but I'm always getting like a trade-off in one it gets like really annoying when I Infuse my thrusting shield and I just lose out on like 15 more guard boost and it's a bunch of guarded damage negation just with every single Elemental infusion it's like why is that happening like the base guard boost of these thrusting Shields can be almost just as good as like some great Shields but then you go ahead and Infuse it and then it's like worse than like almost every single medium Shield it has like ruined so much of the build creation aspect Behind these weapons and it just makes me not want to use it number four hand toand weapons now these things much like the Beast claws I think are just going to be out CLA by something else in this instance I think that regular fist weapons are just going to be better stuff like the spiked T starfist iron balls these things are just going to do way more stance damage way higher DPS stagger a lot better so it's very hard to beat out things like those but these weapons are still going to be very good and they have a lot of specific uses and kind of just require different types of builds too now to start off with they are going to have better Synergy with things like the multi-hit talismans due to how many times they can hit quickly so stacking up on these can just result in higher amounts of damage another thing they do nicely is going to be their unique ashes of War Unfortunately they just get a lot less ashes of War compared to things like fists because you can't just use things like crack blade to just get more damage on every hit but you do get stuff like dry Leaf wellwick those smaller enemies very nicely also do some decent stance damage I would never use it against larger enemies because you are going to get stuck in a longer animation you don't get hyper armor and it feels like when you use it against larger enemies it kind of like bugs out and slows down a whole bunch that's kind of annoying but Palm blast is going to be an incredible s tier Ash of war in this game you get like infinite hype Brama and this is going to be high amount of damage and like over 33 stance damage on every single hit and it's just incredible I love using this skill so much it makes these weapons so much better but another thing that makes the hter hand weapons really good is going to be the Dan's footwork this weapon is really good this one actually does get a bunch of kicking attacks compared to the dry Leaf Arts which gets mainly punching attacks now the differences being is that the light attacks of the dry Leaf Arts get less stance damage but the heavy attacks get more stance damage but the reason why I'm still going to Value the Dan's footworks more is for two different reasons one it actually does get better Synergy with the shattered Stone Talisman and the Divine bird Warrior gaves these things are just going to boost all your kicking attack types of damage whether it's a skill light attack heavy attack jumping attack doesn't matter what it is it's just going to enhance the damage and also the Dan's footwork does just hit twice in guard counters that's probably just a bug but it's literally doing twice as much damage when you go into a guard counter build and this play style is just so fun like just throwing on the deflect tier every single deflect you're just doing like 40 stance damage and like twice as much damage as you normally would but in terms of some of the other negatives it is going to be like not that much DPS these things do lack some damage and they're not going to stagger roll nor proc stance breaks as quickly as things like fist weapons these are just going to be much more consistent in my opinion but hand to hand weapons do have their place and are going to be very fun they could probably still use with a buff as it pertains to their base damage but overall they're very good number three the light great swords now these could have easily been number one like this whole top three they're kind of all just as good as one another and it was very hard to try and pick between them but I just decided to go with a light great swords at number cuz they have like a bit more things that are just not as good as some of the other ones but to start off with the things that they do very well is going to be one their move set they'd probably have like one of the best if not the best two-handed move set in the game they get very quick attacks that are so very smooth and you can combo them in from the heavy attacks from the jumping heavy attacks into the light attack Combos and it's just so nice and fluid and it's never really an instance where I feel like I got stuck in like a longer animation even though it feels like you're always doing a bunch of these double swipes like these things can attack just as much as straight swords but this could do more damage and do like just as much stance damage and but their heavy attacks are going to be nice quick double swipes which are going to be slower than things like straight swords but it's obviously going to do way more damage and these heavy attacks do just as much stance damage as a great sword which is just amazing so like the move set and combo potential for these things are just Peak now some things that I don't really care for one is going to be their power stancing combos I just much rather have it one-handed or two-handed they just feel much more fluid and smooth cuz power stancing it kind of gets stuck in like longer animation it feels like and they consume a lot of stamina too they just don't really feel as nice or as powerful as like just two-handing a light gr sword would now in terms of their options I think Mady is just going to be the best one one it just has really great versatility with every single type of infusion you get like amazing scalings with elemental infusions you can go either strength or dexterity and they're both going to perform like equally as good and they do get a plethora of Ash of War options too they get everything for like small weapons poking attacks and like all types of Sword Asher Wars now the thing is in this game ashes of typically are just best paired with like the harder hitting types of weapons which light great swords are just not so if you wanted to use some of the best ashes of war in the game things like impaling thrust lion claw carrying sovereignty all these ashes of War are just going to be better paired with things like great swords instead of light great swords because they're going to have the same speeds but just do more damage and potentially more stance damage which in a game where like L2 spam is just the meta like let's be real it is that might be more favorable but thankfully there is going to be a unique ashar in the wing stance that is absolutely amazing it is an S tier ashore in this game you go into a stance and get the option of a triple swinging attack or a nice quick lunging poke attack which the cool thing about this is that you actually can combo in both together and the entire combo can do like upwards of 50 stance damage now if you were just to use one I'd rather just use like the poking attack because that one can just like lunge really far very quickly and just do 30 stance damage by itself which is just amazing now in terms of their other options Letter's great sword is going to be pretty decent just gets the regular light Great Sword move set the weapon skill can be a nice easy to use projectile not going to be like the highest damaging thing I wish it did get like a better Faith scaling cuz it only gets a descaling in faith so hopefully that can get improved and in terms of the relus twin blades I am not a fan as I mentioned the power stance light great sword combos don't like them that much and the weapon skill as I've talked about plenty of times is just directly outclassed By The Sword of night and Flame cuz that one is much more consistent and just does a lot more damage number two the backhand blades now these weapons for the most part are just going to be outclassed by power sense curve swords because they gets much better move sets and just much better DPS and there are some curve swords in the game like the bandits and scavengers curv swords that can just completely just break open the entire game with their jumping attack types of builds but backhanded blades do have two things going for them that just make them amazing and that's one is going to be their heavy attacks and two their unique ashore options now the heavy attack is just going to be really good because it's like a quick lunging double swipe attack which I don't know why all types of pair weapons don't get unique heavy attacks so many of like the PA weapons just only swing with one weapon when it comes that are heavy but thankfully these actually do get a heavy attack That Swing both and this is just going to do really good damage decent stance damage and just lunge really far now the best part about the backhanded blades are going to be their unique ashes of War blind spot and Swift slash are just both s tier and like borderline broken ashes in this game blind spot is just ridiculous because it's like instant eye frames you can like Dodge almost every single attack very easily just by clicking the skill and it's going to result in like an instant punish poking attack which yes is going to be doing piercing damage and in most cases is is going to be a Counterattack due to how fast that it actually does hit right after exiting the Dodge and best of all yet it is not that expensive and this can do like 10 stance damage every single time and with how little stamina that it does cost as well it's very easily spammable now the other skill is going to be swift slash which this skill is just amazing yes even in PVE you can like go from one side of the room all the way to the other in like an instant if you do have it fully charged that is going to have somewhat of like a longer starting up animation but if you do get in an instance where you feel like an enem is about to hit you you're can just like let's go the button and you still end up like flinging yourself pretty far and you can probably just end up dodging back into safety again and these like multi- hits that it gets after like doing the dash can actually proc things like status effects too and you can just make for those stupid builds but as zooming back and forth just proing all these status effects like bleed and frost while also doing amazing damage for not much FP now in terms of their options they're going to be pretty good obviously the backhanded blades just get amazing scalings think it's an sc scaling in dexterity and with certain types of Elemental infusions like cold you actually do get B scaling in both intelligence and dexterity so these ones are just going to be the best options for the backhanded blades the Smith script Circ is just not going to be good because it just gets less damage than the backhanded blades and that just get terrible heavy attacks because it's like a projectile that just does awful damage the curs blade C is actually pretty decent does get the regular backhand blade move set but it gets a unique skill called deadly dance which I'm not going to like as much as things like blind spot or Swift slash but it can do nice damage and it can stun lock enemies really well so overall I think the backhanded blades are just a solid weapon class but are just mainly carried by those overpowered weapon skill options number one the great katas now these ones get number one due to them having just like the most amount of upsides and all three options are just really good there's not a single bad one on here but to start off with their move set they just get they just get a very good one with a bunch of like poking attacks slashing attacks great Variety in like vertical and horizontal swipes like those heavy attacks can cover such a wide angle that is going to be amazing for hit detection and hitting multiple enemies the fact that you get a running poking attack is great and these things also don't really swing that slow for the amount of stance damage that they do like these things can get great sword stance damage with every single like light attack and their heavy attacks and on top of all that they will get passive bleed too now I think the best great Katana in the game is going to be this the regular basic great Katana due to its versatility and ability to be infused cuz the fact that it can be infused means that you can just pair it alongside something like blood flame blade to just get even better blood loss build up or just pair it alongside an a cult INF fusion with an Arcane build to potentially get even higher blood loss build up and there are so many amazing weapon skills that you can pair alongside the great Katana that feel like that they really shouldn't be paired alongside with the great katana like how does something like this get things like impaling thrust repeating thrust blood attacks like these are all like really quick poking attack types of weapon skills and you can put it on a great Katana and it'll be like just as fast is if you were to put these skills like on a dagger like I understand how something like this could have gotten those skills cuz these weapons can do like more damage than like most great swords in the game too and you're pairing it alongside these really quick skills it's just not fair now in terms of their other two options they're both going to be amazing the dragon huntter is great Katana does get a nice projectile skill that can just mess up dragons really quickly but like the skill overall is just going to be very easy to use due to it having a lot of hyper armor and not really consuming much FP the rasa's great Katana just has like a Flawless move set it doesn't do anything like too flashy but it's just overall great you still get the really good light attacks that regular great katas get but it just gets a poking heavy attack which poking attacks obviously means that you lunge really far you're going to be doing piercing damage and you canare these alongside C types of talismans and it can make for just really broken builds now when you're sacrificing like the wide horizontal swipe for a heavy for a poking attack heavy that means you might lose out on some like variety to hit multiple enemies at once but that's where the weapon skill comes into play because weed cutter is like a very wide horizontal swipe of which you get lots of hyperama good stagger potential for not much FP at all and it's going to swing pretty fast so your DPS can also be very high probably not going to like it overall as much as like the regular great Katana but this weapon basically has just like a Flawless move set like the only downside that I can say about the great katas is that I don't like the power sensing combos I just do not like those light attacks that they get at all the running attacks are very nice the jumping attacks can be very good but I'm not a big fan of those like long animations that the light attack combos get but these are still deserving to be the number one spot of the best weapon types in the Elden ring DLC anyway that is the video now done let me know what your opinions are down in the comments below and please do like and subscribe we have more videos coming out along the way next one might end up being ranking all the armor sets we might do something like that that it's just going to be based on like their special effects not necessarily like how they look in terms of their fashion and stuff like that might do a video like that later on we'll see anyway catch you guys around bye
