Changing Channel Direction & Film Photography Journey

hey guys welcome this is probably a different probably different type of video than then I post usually on this channel mostly because I want to kind of change the direction of this channel and post some different kinds of videos last summer was fun I enjoyed making those vlogs and stuff but I am now in school so I can't really make those right now I'm in college and in New York so I'll put at the end of the video full explanation just so I can get into what the video is now basically I'm getting into a film photography I am in college for film like video production but as a side thing I like to do film photography I've been heavily inspired by people like Willem Verbeek verb verbeek and grainy days and all those other like kind of film photography people where they make videos and they just go out and take photos and then show like kind of the context and the area and what the final product looked like and I thought it'd be fun because they're all great photographers but I'm not I thought it'd be fun to kind of like document my journey because I took my first roll of film like three months ago in December and I took it on my dad's old film camera Canon Rebel mm since then I've collected a few small ones I have a Canon at 28 little guy I like them I have a point-and-shoot another Canon sure-shot all of these I've gotten I like thrift stores on eBay for like under $20 but my latest pickup is the minolta XG one and I thought this would be a good stepping off point to do my own film photography videos so the other day I went to Brooklyn with my xg1 it was untested so I took a roll of Fuji Superior 400 with me and I just kind of shot mostly to practice but also just to test the camera itself the plan was to go to Coney Island that night for sunset but I ended up leaving early I stopped by Prospect Park to take some photos their first photo I took is at the entrance Prospect Park one of the entrances at the Nighthawk cinema cool photo I like it because I was shooting at 400 speed because that's what the superior extra stock to have is I was shooting at like f-22 so everything's kind of in focus I usually like having a little more shallow focus but I just couldn't do that this cool photo of the bikes what I like about Fuji Superior's the greens a lot of people don't like it because it can be unnatural it does give like very like toy ish film effect I notice also this photo uh there's like a little like light leak or something and a bunch of the other photos have like light streaks and like weird zigzag things we'll get to it um since then I have replaced the light sails on the xg1 so we will see I guess in future roles whether or not I fixed the problem I'm not too mad because none of the photos are like that good so it didn't really ruin anything [Music] lately I've been taking photos of cars I'll try it out maybe include some of the car photos have gotten both on my Canon net and the rebel 2000 but I think the vintage cars are very photogenic and I would have liked this RV photo if there was now a beard like light box that was in the middle but it's fine I like this photo I don't know why I look I really like the stop sign and that's kind of just like pushing onto the red box I headed down to a Coney Island here's about 4:30 which is when sunset at that time this was like a few weeks ago so I was able to catch the sunset still a little bright so I had to shoot it like f like 8 or so I wasn't able to stop down and shoot wide open fully until like after sunset and if I wasn't shooting into the Sun there are some photos here where the green kind of really does come out and like the red and the green balance is off and the white balance it's just not what I would totally like again the photos aren't that crazy so it's not a problem for me mostly Fuji I found that Fuji superior is great on my on this point and shoot because it does give that like vintage party just capturing the moment type photos but in a rangefinder SLR like regular photo type situation it can be a hit or miss yeah captured some people doing a wedding shoot I think and then there was a couple of dudes doing one of their shoots at this time of year Coney Island's really nice because it's like empty during the spring-summer packed but right now it's kind of dead it's just a bunch of old people walking around the evening the vacancy of it all it's just kind of like well with Erie but like satisfying as well the after a while I got to I'm tired of looping out my rx100 to take the videos so I'll just show a bunch of other photos while giving my thoughts on the camera and on film in general the camera itself is nice I wanted the xgm because it had a little more control a little more like information on the camera about like shredder and all that but I don't want to spend a lot of money when I'm not making that good of photos yet so I wanted to get a very beginner camera even if I had no the things and if I feel like I'm ready for an expensive issue camera I guess I want to be able to get the look down before I invest in that yeah as I said in the beginning the video I'm just kind of changing the direction of what I wanted to post on this YouTube channel this channel was never for anyone except for me basically it was just kind of made as an archive even if the videos some of the videos are commentary videos but the other videos that are like vlog style they were mostly for me to look back on last summer and see what I did and all the funny things that I funny things that I did and this will be the same thing I want to document my journey as a film photographer just to see maybe three years four years if I have gotten better or if I've just given it up so hopefully I stick through with this until next time
