Hebraic Roots of Christianity

GLC presents Brought to you by the donations of our faithful partners Shalom, I'm Eddie Chamniv, Hebraic Heritage Ministries, and we welcome you today to our study on the Hebraic roots of Christianity. We need to remember that when we're studying the Hebraic roots of Christianity, we must keep everything set. On Yeshua the Messiah. That's because it is written of him in Psalm chapter 40 verse 7. Then said I lo I come in the volume of the book. It is written of me. That verse is quoted. in Hebrews in chapter 10 and verse 7 referring to Yeshua. Then Yeshua himself stated in Luke chapter 24 and verse 44 these are the words which I have spoken unto you while I was yet with you that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Torah of Moses and in the prophets and in the Psalms concerning me. Therefore Yeshua stated that the heap Hebrews scriptures are written of him. That the Torah is written of him. Therefore in order to fully understand our Bible. We need to see Yeshua in the Torah. And how that's related to his ministry at his first coming. Him dying on the tree. And then also his second coming. So. how do we see Yeshua in the Torah? Well, in John chapter 1 and verse 3 and Colossians chapter 1 verses 15 and 16, we're told that Yeshua created the heavens and the earth. Then Paul writes in Galatians chapter 3 verse 16, we're there, he's making a reference to Genesis chapter 17 verse 7 and he explains that Yeshua made covenant with... Abraham then he goes on to say in Galatians chapter 3 verse 29 that if you are Christ or if you believe that Yeshua is the Messiah then are you Abraham's seed and an heir according to the promise Paul wrote in first Corinthians in chapter 10 verses 1 through 4 that in the children of Israel coming out of Egypt that the rock that was with them in the wilderness That rock was Messiah. 1 Corinthians 10, verse 4. If we cross-reference, that verse was Psalm 78, verse 35. We see that it is written there, and they remembered that God was their rock, the high God, their Redeemer. So the rock that was with them in the wilderness is... also their redeemer as well as being their god now if we look at titus in chapter 2 verses 13 and 14 it is written looking for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great god and our savior yeshua hamashiach who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from you all iniquity so yeshua is our rock he is our redeemer he is our savior he is the god of israel now in exodus in chapter 15 and verse 4 we're told that pharaoh and his army drowned in the red sea and the way in which it happened exodus chapter 15 verse 6 is by the right hand and the right hand is a term for yeshua the messiah and the right hand in hebraic thought means it means power strength deliverance and victory and it was through the right hand you An arm that the children of Israel defeated their enemies in the promised land as we're told in Psalm in chapter 44 in verses 2 and 3 in Isaiah chapter 53 verse 1 it says who has believed our report and to whom is the arm of the Lord been revealed speaking about Yeshua the Messiah he's not only the right hand but he is the arm Of the Lord as well. Now, when the children of Israel came out of Egypt, they were led by the cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night. And we're told in Exodus in chapter 40 and verse 34, that a cloud covered the tent of the congregation in the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. That the cloud by day, pillar of fire by night is called the glory of. the lord well yeshua is called the glory of the lord in revelation in chapter 21 and verse 23 speaking of the new jerusalem it is written in the city had no need of the sun neither the moon to shine in it for the glory of god did lighten it and the lamb is the light thereof so yeshua created the heavens and the earth you Yeshua made covenant with Abraham. Yeshua led the children of Israel out of Egypt. He was the cloud by day, the pillar of fire by night. Yeshua defeated Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea. He was the rock that was with the children of Israel in the wilderness. And next we're going to see that it was Yeshua who gave the Torah at Mount Sinai. Matthew in chapter 1. 1 and verse 21 it is written and she that is speaking of Mary that she shall bring forth a son and you will call his name Yeshua which means salvation why for he shall save his people from their sins then in Luke chapter 2 and verse 11 you It is written, for unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. So Yeshua will save his people from their sins. Yeshua is our Savior. James in chapter 4 verse 12 it is written, There is one lawgiver who is able to save. The one that is able to save, even Yeshua HaMashiach, is the lawgiver now at mount sinai there was a marriage and we're told about this marriage in jeremiah chapter 2 verses 1 through 3 ezekiel chapter 16 verses 8 through 13 and the lawgiver is also the bridegroom his bride is the house of jacob exodus chapter 19 in verse 3 now the highest The house of Jacob consisted of the physical descendants of Abraham, Isaiah, and Jacob, who put the blood of the lamb on the doorpost, as well as the non-physical descendants of Abraham, Isaiah, and Jacob, who put the blood of the lamb on the doorpost. So how do the non-physical descendants of Abraham, Isaiah, and Jacob, how do they become a part of the house of Jacob? Well, In the Torah as strangers. They're also sojourners. So they were adopted or they were grafted in and they are referred to in Exodus in chapter 12 and verse 38 as the mixed multitude. So we see when Yeshua delivered his people out of Egypt that deliverance wasn't. just to the physical descendants of Abraham, Isaiah, and Jacob, but all those who would put the blood of the lamb on the doorpost. So we see that the God of Israel was not a respecter of persons. He just wanted to see who was willing to be obedient. Well, given that there was a marriage that took place at Mount Sinai, the bride had to accept the terms and the conditions of the marriage. And the terms and the conditions, Exodus chapter 19 and verses 5 and 6, if you will obey my voice, which means follow my Torah. which is keeping his covenant then you'll be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation the bride says yes i accept that proposal exodus chapter 19 verse 8 and all the people answered together and said all that the lord has spoken we will do however she shortly afterward was unfaithful to him and built the golden calf in exodus in chapter 32 and then when he brought her into the promised land she went after other gods in the land and we're told about this in the book of judges and as a result he became jealous because she went after other gods which is a reference to other husbands so he decided to kick her out of his house his house being the land of Israel. She was exiled into the nations of the world and it was the Assyrians who took the northern kingdom captivity and the Babylonians took the southern kingdom captivity. But this separation or this exile wasn't meant to be permanent and we are told in Jeremiah in chapter 31 And in verse 10, hear the word of the Lord, all you nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel, who scattered Israel, the lawgiver and the bridegroom, will gather him and keep him as a shepherd does his flock. The one that gathers will do so as a shepherd. And Yeshua said in John chapter 10, In verse 11 and verse 14, I am the good shepherd. In this chapter, he's speaking to Pharisees, and the Pharisees are Jews. They're the southern kingdom. They're the house of Judah. And he explains to the Pharisees in John chapter 10, verse 16, Other sheep I have, which are not of this fold, them also I must bring. They will hear my voice. And so this is a prophecy that the northern kingdom would believe that Yeshua is the Messiah. And hearing his voice means as well that they would ultimately follow his Torah. And in the fullness of time, there's going to be one fold. The two sheep folds are going to become one. And there will be one shepherd over them. Of course, that is Yeshua the Messiah. But Yeshua is explaining to the Pharisees that in order... for there to be a gathering uniting the 12 tribes of israel that he must first die he must lay down his life john chapter 10 verse 17 and the reason is because in the unfaithfulness of his bride the house of jacob he wanted to offer her redemption wanted to offer her forgiveness of sin now according to the letter of the law she deserved death but yeshua Wanted to judge her according to the spirit of the law which is to show love which is to show mercy and compassion Which is to offer forgiveness Which is to be a servant and to lay down your life And so this is what he did he shed his blood that if she would acknowledge her sin She would repent of her sin that he would renew the relationship with her And this renewed relationship is called the new covenant that was only made with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. Jeremiah 31 verse 31 Hebrews in chapter 8 and verse 8. But this new covenant, renewed covenant, is the Torah written upon our heart. Jeremiah chapter 31 verse 33. Through the help and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Because he said, I'm going to put my spirit within you. and cause you to keep my statutes and my judgments and do them ezekiel in chapter 36 verses 26 and 27 and in doing so remove from her the stony heart and replace it with a heart of flesh so she would have forgiveness of sin through his shed blood she would have his indwelling holy spirit and she would have a heart of flesh a heart to obey in his you spirit to give her the power to walk in that obedience if she would commit herself To his spirit. Now even though this renewed covenant. Was only the house of Israel. And the house of Judah. Anyone from the nations. Who would agree to the terms and the conditions. Could receive the blessing and the benefit of it. And the condition is. You need to repent of your sin. You need to accept Yeshua as the Messiah. And his shed blood. Providing the forgiveness of your sin. This is how. We're told in John chapter 3 verse 16 that God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever would believe in him would not perish but have everlasting life. So those from the nations they're grafted in Romans chapter 11 verse 17 and then they become a part of the commonwealth of Israel. Well looking back to what Yeshua stated to the Pharisees in John chapter 10 verse 16 he says other sheep I have not of them. not of this fold them also i must bring now the northern kingdom they departed from the torah and the torah of yeshua the messiah and the book of hosea in chapter 8 and verses 11 and 12 it is written because ephraim has made many altars to sin altars shall be made unto him to sin i've written to him the great things of my Torah but they were counted as a strange thing and through the first king of the northern kingdom that would be Jeroboam he set up what is referred to in second kings as a golden calf system of worship and so in setting up this system of worship It's in the book of Kings, but it's specifically mentioned in 1 Kings in chapter 12. And in verse 28, it is written, Wherefore the king took counsel when he made two calves of gold and said, It's too much for you to go to Jerusalem. Behold your gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Those are the words that were said in building the golden calf in Exodus in chapter 12. 32 in verse 4. So the northern kingdom was expressing faith in the God of Israel, but it was through mixed worship. They were expressing faith in the God of Israel, but they mixed in the ways of the peoples around them. We are told in 2 Kings 17, verses 32 and 33, that they feared the Lord, but in doing so they served. Their own God. And so the God of Israel is not pleased with this mixed worship. And for forsaking his Torah and even trying to follow him in their own way. And following them according to the image that they made of him. And how they wanted to worship him. He was displeased and he exiled her into the nations. And the exile of those who were in the Galilee area is mentioned in 2 Kings, in chapter 15, and verse 29, where it says, In the days of Pekah, king of Israel, came Tiglath-Pileser, and he took various places, and among them Gilead and Galilee, the Galilee, all the land of Nephilim. Paul and he carried them captive to Assyria and so that there is going to be a later time when the Assyrians are going to come and take further captivity the northern kingdom and this is prophesied and mentioned in Isaiah in chapter 9 and verses 1 and 2 so we'll pick up here for you To see the scriptures, Isaiah chapter 9 verse 1, where it says, Nevertheless, the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali. In other words, the initial taking was light compared to what's going to follow. And afterward did he more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan and Galilee of the nations. Then it says in verse 2, The people that walked in darkness, now walking in darkness means departing from the Torah. They've seen a great light. Yeshua the Messiah is that great light and his Torah is light and they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death that refers to exile in the nations upon them has light shine. This is a prophecy of the great light that is the Messiah coming to bring restoration to those of the northern kingdom who were taken captive by the. Assyrians and so this is what Matthew is referring to and the reason why Yeshua's ministry was focused in the Galilee is because of the attention that he's giving to restore the ten tribes because he told the Pharisees in John chapter 10 verse 16 them also I must bring and there's a prophecy in Hosea chapter 1 that the northern kingdom would become believers in yeshua as the messiah where it says in hosea chapter 1 and verse 10 yet the number of the children of israel shall be as the sand of the sea which cannot be measured or numbered and it will come to pass in the place where it was said you are not my people there it be said you are the sons of the living god a son of the living god is the believer in yeshua as the messiah so yeshua's coming his ministry is in the galley to show that his heart is to restore the northern kingdom of the ten tribes now matthew in chapter four we're going to look at verse 12 where it is written now when yeshua had heard that john was cast in the prison he departed into galilee verse 13 and leaving nazareth he came and he dwelt in capernaum which is upon the sea coast In the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali. Now, Capernaum in Hebrew is Kephar Nachum, which means the village of comfort. And in Messiah restoring the ten tribes, he's going to bring, as the prophets state, comfort. And the comfort is a renewed covenant, forgiveness of their sins, and the end of their exile. So let's see how comfort is associated with the end of the exile. Isaiah chapter 40, verses 1 and 2. Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, says your God. Speak comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned, for she has received of the Lord's hand double for all her sins. So we... Have the words comfort ye, comfort ye my people, and what are those words of comfort linked with? Let's look at Isaiah 40 verses 10 and 11. Behold the Lord God will come with a strong hand, and his arms shall rule for him. Behold his reward is with him, and his work before him. He shall feed his flock like a shepherd. He shall gather the lambs. The good shepherd is going to gather the flock. And when he gathers the flock, that's the comfort of the exiles of Israel. Yeshua's ministry was in the Galilee, where the northern kingdom was taken captive by the Assyrians. And he spent his time in Capernaum, the village of comfort, showing that he's going to bring comfort to the exiles of Israel. First, to forgive them of their sins. And then that's his first coming. Second coming, the gathering in the 12 tribes of Israel. That's why it says in Jeremiah 31 verse 10, he that scattered Israel will gather him and keep him as a shepherd does his flock. And this comfort is associated with marriage and great rejoicing. Jeremiah chapter 31 verse 13. Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, the young men and old together. I will turn their mourning, mourning is the opposite of comfort, mourning came about from going into exile, into joy. And joy is, I will comfort them. The comfort is bringing the renewed covenant, forgiving them of their sins, and ending their exile. And so this is why we're told in... jeremiah chapter 31 verse 16 rachel is told to refrain your voice from weeping refrain from weeping why because Your children will come again from the land of the enemy. Verse 17. There is hope in your end, says the Lord, that your children will come again to their own border. And so Yeshua died to gather and unite the 12 tribes of Israel, shedding his blood to forgive them of their sins, but ultimately gathered them from the nations. And so... This is how we have Matthew chapter 4 in verse 16. That the people from Isaiah chapter 9 verses 1 and 2, that is the ten tribes, which sat in darkness, departed from the Torah, saw a great light, the Messiah. And them that sat in the region of the shadow of death, in exile, light has sprung up. Messiah is coming to bring redemption to his people, to restore the ten tribes and to unite them with the southern kingdom. And unite the 12 tribes of Israel. So remember these words from 1 John 2, verse 6. He who says he abides in him or believes that Yeshua is the Messiah. I will walk as he walked. How did Yeshua walk? He followed the Torah and he commanded those who believe on him. John 14, verse 15. If you love me, keep my commandments. Shalom and Yeshua. Amen.
