Welcome to my YouTube channel. My channel is mainly focusing for electrical engineering graduates. Especially those who are pursuing B3rd year or final year. They are having the syllabus of high voltage engineering.
Those students can refer this YouTube channel so that they can acquire some knowledge regarding high voltage engineering. I am mainly focusing on five segments related to high voltage engineering. In the first segment, I am going to explain conduction and brittonium gases, liquid and solid dielectric material. In the second module, I am mainly dealing with high voltage AC as well as high voltage DC generation techniques.
Third module is mainly dealing with measurement of high voltage. it is mainly explaining the testing procedure, different type of high voltage testing, different type of high voltage testing. And finally, in fifth module, it is mainly focusing on over voltage phenomena, especially during lightning and thundering. Now, it is most important consideration regarding design of equipments, design of high voltage equipments, whether your equipments can withstand during lightning and thundering or not.
That is the main thing regarding fifth module. module. This is actually my plan of action. In my upcoming classes, I am going to deal with each module respectively.
I will be taking lot more time regarding individual modules. Before entering to the class, I would like to explain what is a high voltage? Can anybody say about high voltage engineering? What do you mean by high voltage engineering? Let us discuss what is a high voltage engineering?
What is high voltage engineering? Before I intend to do high voltage engineering, I need to explain what is high voltage. If an AC voltage magnitude is greater than 1000 volt or if a DC voltage magnitude above 1500 volt is termed as high voltage. is termed as high voltage. If the magnitude of AC AC quantity which is above 1000 volt or if the magnitude of DC quantity above 1500 volt is known as high voltage.
It may be high voltage AC or it may be high voltage AC. Okay. Next. Let us explain what is high voltage in here.
Thank you. The application of these voltage either HVAC or HVDC under different medium such as gaseous medium, solid medium and liquid medium and liquid medium and liquid medium and studying the behavior of these three medium generally these three medium is known as high voltage engineering. It is mainly used for, it is mainly applicable for the design of insulation, design of insulation for dielectric, design of dielectric materials, design of dielectric and design of protective devices, design of protective devices, design of protective devices.
This is the brief idea about high voltage engineering. Next, why we need to learn high voltage engineering? Let us see the application.
What are the main application of high voltage engineering? What are the various applications of high voltage engineering? Application Various applications of high voltage engineering Various applications Basically, the application will be spread out I can distribute the application into different areas The first area is power system Power system Power system The second area is industries. And the third area of application is research labs.
These are the main areas of application of high voltage engineering. Let us see power system. In power system, we are preferring high voltage AC power transmission. High voltage AC power transmission.
How do I prefer, how we prefer high voltage AC power transmission? What is the reason? Why? Because if you go for high voltage power transmission, 100% you can minimize the losses. minimize the transmission line losses.
You can minimize transmission line losses. If you can minimize transmission line losses, you can improve overall transmission efficiency. Overall transmission efficiency can be improved.
That is why in power system we are preferring high voltage power transmission. So, this is one of the best examples which are regarding high voltage engineering. Let us move on to industries. In industries we are using one of the device that is known as electrostatic precipitator. It is also known as ESP, electrostatic precipitator.
This is mainly used for pollution control to minimize air pollution. This device is used for the production of water. device you can connect at chimneys of different industries.
Such a way that particle can be filtered out, the pollutant particle can be filtered out by using this electrostatic precipitator. If you want you can write electrostatic precipitator. Another application is electrostatic painting.
Thank you. Electrostatic painting. Electrostatic painting.
And one more application I can say, electrostatic printing. Electrostatic painting is mainly applicable for painting at electrical and mechanical machines. Similarly, electrostatic printing is mainly applicable for design of printed circuit boards.
These are the effective methodology or different applications which are related to industries. Now moving on to research lab. One of the device that is known as Van-D-Graf generator Van-D-Graf generator Van-D-Graf generator Van-D-Graf generator Van-D-Graf generator that is also known as particle accelerator This device is mainly using in Nuclear physics applications. Moreover, you can increase, you can accelerate the speed of moving particle. It is operating under high voltage DC.
So that you can conduct so many experiments by using Van de Graaff generator. Moreover, it can be employed in nuclear power station as well. So we can conclude that.
These are the main area. There are lot more applications. But we will be concentrating on the limited applications which are concerning to our field.
So these are the different applications related to high voltage engineering. Now before moving on to the subject, I wanted to convince you what is the main test book which you can refer, test book or reference book, textbook. Test book or reference for this update Test book or reference In my opinion You can refer One test book titled by High Voltage Engineering High Voltage Engineering High Voltage Engineering High Voltage Engineering Written by M.S.
Naidu and V. Kamaraj All five modules are covered by this textbook and it is one of the good reference and they have written very simple and very nicely manner. So please do refer this textbook. And published by MC Brogdon. Better you can refer 5th edition.
5th edition. You will be getting lot of updated information. That is why I recommend 5th edition.
You can refer NPTEL lecture notes also. NPTEL lecture notes. Another preference.
NPTEL notes you can refer. Whatever you can refer, SlideShare. SlideShare. slideshare.com there are so many PPTs available even i2 uploaded the PPT in slideshare these are the different references regarding high voltage engineering i would like to start module 1 during next class today i hope You could understand what is high voltage engineering, what are the applications of high voltage engineering, what are the different references, different test books you can refer for studying and gaining better knowledge regarding high voltage engineering in this session.
If you understood the subject and if you are interested, if you like the subject or if you like this video, I request you to like and share with your friends. Finally, I am thanking for everybody for listening this video interestingly. meet again thank you
