Traditional Process vs. Pyxis MedStation

• Traditional:
  • Lengthy process involving multiple steps: typing orders, sending requests, informing the pharmacy, physically collecting medication, etc.
  • Time-consuming: Approximately 15-30 minutes per medication order.
  • Errors: Risk of overlooking allergies or new medication orders.
• Pyxis MedStation:
  • Process simplified to logging in, selecting medication, and dispensing.
  • Time-efficient: Less than 1 minute for medication distribution.

Basic Operation

1. Login Process
   • Initial registration by authorized personnel using fingerprint and credentials.
   • Fingerprint login allows access to the system.
2. Main Options
   • Remove Medication, Return Medicine, Waste Medicine, Inventory, etc.

Removing Medication

• List of patients displayed by last name or room number.
• Medications for the shift can be removed by time.
• Verification of medication count for controlled drugs is mandatory.
• Controlled substance discrepancies are flagged and require resolution.

Returning Medication

• Select the return option, choose patient and medications to return.
• Bigger items have specific return processes based on hospital policy.
• Control drugs require witness verification during returns.

Wasting Medication

• Document unused or discarded medications for transparency.
• Witness required for wasting controlled substances to prevent misuse.

Global Find Feature

• Locate medications in other Pyxis MedStations if not available in the current one.
• Saves time by pointing out exact locations of required meds.

Pharmacy Role

• Monitor stock levels via computer and refill Pyxis daily.
• Customize stock according to the needs of the nursing station.
