Addressing Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)

As you've seen, ACEs are a significant public health problem, and data show that exposure to ACEs is widespread. It's true that putting a stop to ACEs is no small task, but it's a goal that we all must work toward. The strategies outlined in Essentials for Childhood can guide your unique efforts to reduce risk factors and promote protective factors that exist across our social ecology. If each of us takes action and we encourage others to get involved, we can create a society which understands that early adversities hurt individuals, families, and entire communities. Let's all take responsibility for creating the safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments that all children deserve. Through our collective commitment, we will help children grow up to be healthy and productive adults so that they, in turn, can build stronger and safer families and communities for their children. As this work unfolds, I will continue to monitor data about ACES, and I'll be here to report on our successes and achievements as we see positive changes.
