[Music] meet Captain Robert Walton an ambitious English Explorer he's headed to the North Pole to discover the secrets behind the Earth's magnetic force through his letters to his sister Margaret we're about to hear an unforgettable story during his voyage Walton's ship gets stuck in the ice while he and his Brave crew wait for the ice to break and free the ship strange things happen first they see a gigantic figure speeding northwards on a sledge then they rescue a man stranded on an ice flow he'd been pursuing the thing they'd spotted the day before the man they rescue is Victor Frankenstein and he's in bad shape Walton cares for Victor until he's well enough to tell his story The Following tale is what Walton records Victor was born into a well-to-do Swiss Family and passed a happy childhood his mother Caroline and his father alfons showered him with love and gave him an amazing gift a beautiful adopted sister named Elizabeth Victor was quite an intense child and didn't bond easily with other people although he did make one very special friend in school Henry kerval this extraordinary young man became Victor's lifelong friend as a teenager Victor obsessed over the works of medieval scientists and occult philosophers it was pretty dark stuff he hoped one day to discover the elixir of life then after witnessing the power of lightning at the age of 15 Victor started investigating electricity and galvanism then at age 17 Victor suffers the first major tragedy of his life his beloved mother dies of scarlet fever but this is just a taste of the misery Victor would suffer in later life after weeks of grieving Victor Begins the next phase of his life he travels to inglestadt to attend University it's here that Victor is inspired by the powers of modern scientists gripped by a manic desire for Glory Victor resolves to use science to uncover the deepest secrets of creation what could possibly go wrong for the next two years Victor works hard to crack the ultimate mystery what causes things to live then he has a major breakthrough he finds out how to bring dead things back to life not that he shares the details of this with Walton this is a cautionary tale not a how-to guide from here twenty-year-old Victor embarks on his major project creating a perfect human specimen from scratch One Stormy November night Victor brings his creature to life only to be horrified by its ugliness Victor flees his laboratory and abandons the creature in the hope that it will just go away the next morning Victor bumps into his old friend Henry Clerval what a wonderful surprise but Koval soon notices that something is very wrong with Victor when he asks Victor what the matter is Victor has a panic attack and faints Clerval then spends the next few months nursing Victor back to health when Victor is well enough he and Clerval both sign up for language courses at the University no more science thanks the following year they go on a hiking holiday which completely restores Victor's Health it's as if the whole monster thing never happened but on his return to engelstadt Victor receives some shocking news his baby brother William has been murdered who would do such a thing Victor returns to Geneva but takes a detour to where William's body was found it's here that Victor lays eyes on the monster for the first time since he brought it to life he must be Williams murderer but due to Victor's silence and the monster's cunning an innocent woman is executed for the crime Justine Moritz the Frankenstein family's faithful servant after this traumatic series of events Victor wants to kill himself the only thing stopping him are his love for Elizabeth and his burning desire for revenge against the monster he needs to destroy this killer monster of his or die trying but first Victor needs to clear his head so he tracks into the mighty Alps for a change of scenery and to breed the fresh Mountain Air Victor feels his spirits lift as he ascends higher and higher what he doesn't realize is that he has been followed the monster confronts Victor and demands that he listened to him Victor tries to charge at the monster but it's no use the monster is way too fast and strong so Victor follows the monster to his cabin to hear his tale of Woe the first week of the monster's life was sheer Agony he was alone cold hungry and terribly confused humans either ran from him or attacked him so he fled into the German Countryside the monster found refuge in a small Hut attached to a cottage but he was careful to avoid being seen by the family who lived there the monster observed The Cottages threw a crack in the wall and grew to love them they were a family of three an old man a young man and a girl when the monster realized that they were sad because they were poor he started to secretly help them out his plan was to eventually introduce himself and he thought he'd have a better chance of success if he could speak well so the monster learned their names and gained a good command of French their native tongue the young man was called Felix his sister was Agatha and their father was referred to by their family name delacy when Felix's Arabian fiance Safi arrived she needed French lessons so the monster learned along with her through these lessons he also learned to read and gained knowledge about human society and history unfortunately the more knowledge the monster acquired the more depressed he became how will he ever be accepted into Human Society he didn't even know who or what he was then again the delaces were Exiles themselves and had suffered a lot surely they would be more compassionate than most people still the monster wanted to be ready for his first meeting with the delaces so he continued to improve his mind when his reading skills were up to scratch the monster looked over a journal he'd stolen from Victor's Laboratory from this he learned how he had come into existence and who was responsible he cursed Victor for making him so hideous and wondered why he'd bothered creating him at all this was rather a low point for the monster but it gets worse the monster convinced himself that the de laces wouldn't be like Victor so one day when blind old delacy was alone in the cottage the monster plucked up the courage to introduce himself all was going well until Felix Agatha and Safi arrived home upon seeing the monster with their father Agatha fainted Safi fled and Felix attacked the monster with a stick instead of tearing Felix's limbs off the monster ran and hid in his Hut he was absolutely devastated soon after this the de laces abandoned their Cottage out of fear this filled the monster with rage so he tore up their garden and burnt down the cottage he then decided to Trek to Geneva and find his creator on the way the monster saved a girl from drowning only to be shot by a man who assumed the monster had hurt her the monster declared war on Humanity after that his first victim was a certain little boy who happened to run across the monster's path little William Frankenstein Keen for more Mischief the monster framed an innocent girl for the boy's murder Justine Moritz after this the monster fled into the mountains and fixed his mind on what he truly wanted a companion the monster ends his tale with this demand build me a female Victor initially refuses but the monster talks him into it the monster promises that as soon as Victor delivers the monster's bride they'll leave Europe to live as peaceful Hermits in South America so they have a deal but will Victor keep up his end of the bargain he's repulsed by the idea of creating another monster and delays the project for months Victor also needs to visit England to investigate recent discoveries that will help the project meanwhile Victor's father wants to know when will Victor marry Elizabeth the family have been looking forward to this for a while as has Victor but Victor needs to deliver the monster's bride before he thinks about the future so it's off to England naturally Clerval joins Victor on the journey which leads to lots of lengthy detours and sightseeing when they finally reach London they spend several months there while Victor acquires the knowledge and materials he needs for operation monster bride from there they travel to Scotland where Victor leaves cloval with a family friend Victor decides to sail to the orkney islands it's the perfect far-flung location for Victor's filthy project building the monster's Bride is a disgusting job that takes many weeks to complete Victor also senses that he's being watched one evening just as he's ready to bring the new creature into being Victor hesitates he can't bring himself to inflict a second monster on mankind he must have been mad to agree to this then by the Light of the Moon Victor sees the monster standing at the window the monster's Wicked grin drives Victor to tear the female apart this brings out the worst in the monster who threatens to be with Victor on his wedding night the monster disappears after this but Victor knows he hasn't seen the last of him a few nights later Victor sails away from the orkneys dumps the female creature at Sea and ends up in an Irish Seaside Town unfortunately Victor is soon arrested and imprisoned for a murder that took place there the previous night who was murdered poor Henry Clerval Victor spends several months in an Irish dungeon Delirious with fever and raving in French until he's found not guilty of the murder on his return to Geneva Victor marries Elizabeth despite the monster's threat to be with Victor on his wedding night it's a happy occasion for the family but Victor's anxiety returns when they reach their honeymoon spot that evening while Victor stalks the halls of the Inn with a pistol he hears terrible screams coming from their room it's Elizabeth runs to save her but he's too late the monster had strangled the life out of her despite his crushing grief Victor returns to Geneva to protect his remaining loved ones but news of Elizabeth's death causes Victor's father to die of a broken heart this sends Victor right over the edge and he spends the next few months locked away in a madhouse upon his release Victor fixes his mind on Revenge when the Swiss authorities refused to help him victor goes on a solo mission Victor tracks the monster from the local cemetery across Europe through the Wilds of Russia and into the icy Arctic the pursuit goes well until the ice splits stranding Victor and his one surviving dog on an ice raft Walton's ship saves him and the dog from ugly deaths even so Victor knows he is spent he will die soon and implores Walton to kill the monster on his behalf a few days later the valiant heart of Victor Frankenstein stops beating Captain Walton is devastated for two reasons one because his wonderful new friend has just died and two because he must return home a failure the ice has freed his ship but the crew demand to head south to safety then one night Walton goes to investigate a noise coming from the cabin containing Victor's coffin it's the monster he's returned to grieve over the body of his creator when Walton expresses his contempt for the monster and his crimes the monster reminds Walton that he only got one side of the story that's a fair point still the monster admits he has done wicked things and that he loathes himself his final Act will be to flee to a remote place build a large funeral pyre and set himself alight that way his body will turn to Ash and no one will discover how to make another creature like him with this the monster jumps ship onto a nearby ice flow and is carried away into the distance here ends the cautionary tale of Victor Frankenstein and
