Headphone Comparison: Sony WH-2000X Mark 5, X Mark 4, Apple AirPods Max, Bose QC45, and B&W PX7 S2

[Music] hey guys as promised my video comparison of the sony wh 2000x mark 5 x mark 4 apple airpods max both q345 and bose and wilkins px7s2 is here let's just get right into it so let's start off with design and comfort it has to be set in the hand the airpods max are the most premium and luxurious there's just no beating the aluminum and this mesh headband that apple has used but because of that it is the heaviest at around 384 grams or just slightly under 14 ounces the rest of the headphones are mostly comprised of plastic so it's no surprise that they are all lighter starting from the lightest you get the bose qc45 at 240 grams the sony wh000x mark 5 at 250 grams the wh 0000x mark 4 at 254 grams and finally the boas and wilkins px7s2 at 307 grams that's pretty much the ranking for these four that i would give in terms of comfort as well the bose qc45 is undoubtedly the winner for me here because of how light it is and the clamping force on these is actually just right it's easy to wear these for hours on end and come out of it with ears that are perfectly fine if a touch hot between the xm4 and the xm5 comfort is pretty much the same but personally i prefer the xm4 because it can fold in on itself which means that it takes up a smaller footprint in your bag which the xm5 can't if you really require that feature though the xm4 and the bose qc45 are the only headphones on this list that can do that so yeah the bose and wilkins are the second heaviest on the list but you have to take into consideration that they have used some more premium materials like the fabric covering that's on the ear cups as well as the top of the headband the px7 s2 is definitely also a premium feeling and looking pair of headphones second only to the airpods max the clamping force here has also been reduced from the original px7 so comfort is much better so the winner here for comfort it is undoubtedly the bose qc45 but the most premium ones still go to the airpods max while the bose and wilkins px7 s2 is a close second thanks to the fabric accent inclusions which make it look slightly less plasticky than the others battery life is quite standard across all these headphones but the wh 0000x mark 5 has to come in first place with 30 hours of battery life as well as a very nice fast charge feature that gives you three hours of play time with three minutes of charge the sony wh 0000x mark 4 also has 30 hours of battery life although the fast charging is slightly slower at 5 hours of play time with 10 minutes of charge the px7 s2 is in the middle of the pack with a total of 30 hours battery life but a slower fast charge that gives you seven hours of play time with 15 minutes of charge then comes the bose qc45 with a total of 24 hours battery life and a fast charge that gives you 3 hours of playtime with 15 minutes of charge the airpods max comes in last with a total of 20 hours battery life and 1.5 hours of play time after 15 minutes of charge that being said even the last place airport max has enough battery life to withstand the longest flight in the world which clocks in at 19 hours as for connectivity the winner has to be the sony wh000x mark 5. they run on bluetooth 5.2 which is the latest standard and they support sbc aac and ldac for high-res music streaming moving down from there it's the boas and wilkins px7s2 in second place coming with only bluetooth 5.0 but a plethora of codec options in sbc aac aptx aptx hd and aptx adaptive most of the time it will just default to adaptive though the wh000x mark 4 also comes with bluetooth 5.0 but it only supports sbc aac and ldac from there on the bose qc45 and the airpods max are actually tied for last the qc45 runs on bluetooth 5.1 while the airpods max runs on bluetooth 5.0 both only support spc and aac so no higher streaming on either of these as for multi-point connectivity all of these headphones support connecting to two devices so you can switch pretty easily between a laptop and your phone the airport's max isn't true multi-point connectivity though so if you really require multi-point and you don't use an iphone and a mac computer you will probably want to look at the other four but let's move on to anc let's just put it out there first the anc on these five headphones are all really good and you'll hear that in the anc test later there's very little difference here when we are piping in generic cafe noise [Music] [Music] just remember the other time oh [Music] so great these all work fine with lower pitched noises but how do they deal with higher pitched sounds well take a listen [Music] [Music] [Music] so just a reminder anc headphones typically don't work so well with cancelling out higher pitch noises and take the test with a pinch of salt because anc also heavily depends on how the headphones fit on your head and your ears and not the dummy hit that being said i did feel that when i was testing them with you know my own ears and my own head that the airpods max as well as the xm5 had the best anc result for me so those would be my winners if you have an iphone or if you are in the apple ecosystem the airport max would be the winner but if you don't and you're using an android phone then you know the xm5 would be for you moving on from there the xm4 is actually just about as good as the xm5 although i did feel that higher pitch noises weren't as effectively canceled out on the xm4 then comes the bose qc45 still a very good option for anc headphones but it just doesn't triumph over the rest for me the px7s2 is actually in last place for me but not because the anc isn't good it would actually be up there with the xm5 for me but there is a problem with how these headphones seal around my ears the clamping force has been reduced from the original px7 as i mentioned and because of that the headphones don't offer as good a seal when it comes to anc so i found that for me the optimal position for ans for the best anc performance with these was when i was kind of looking downwards not great but i highly recommend going to a shop and testing out how all of these work for you because anc and how these fit and seal around your ears and your head really is very subjective hopefully the anc test that i did previously helps to give a little bit of an idea about how they perform finally we come to sound quality and just like a and c this is entirely subjective what i like might not be what you like and that's perfectly fine i'll let the sound test do the talking and then i'll just give my general views later [Music] what is i miss out on [Music] me [Music] is [Music] my foreign instead of confessing from the start what if i miss out on [Music] [Music] so there we go something to note here though is that when we were testing these we actually found that the sony's sounded quite a bit louder than the rest of the headphones even though they were all playing at the same 50 volume so just something to consider for bassy headphones it's hard to recommend anything other than the sony's they come tuned in a base year's signature that's definitely more mass-market and more consumer-friendly but it does come at the cost of drowning out a bit of the mid-range these are equable of course in the sony headphones app so you can tinker around to find an optimal setting for clarity though i would say that my preference is still for the bose and wilkins px7 s2 as well as the apple airpods max the px7s2 has a beautiful warmth in the mids and excellent separation and detail the sound stage on these is fantastic as well as for the airpods max i would say it's a relatively balanced sound with just a bit of emphasis on the low end vocals are clear and distinct and there's just very little to fault with these they sound good if you like treble and you're not as sensitive to peaks in this range the bose qc45 is actually a really good option you will notice a bit of a tighter base but there's a noticeable difference in terms of the energy and brightness in the highs i actually like the treble emphasis on the qc45 although i do feel that it could have been taken down a notch for most people and again that's easily done via eq in the app i'm not gonna name a winner because like i said subjective but my favorite for this section would be the px7s ii because of the mid and the sound stage okay last but not least price let's go from the bottom up because they're the oldest on the list the sony wh000x mark 4 is now very frequently discounted and if you're lucky you could find them at around 300 us dollars there was a sale last year that dropped them down to 250 us dollars and at that price it's a fantastic buy next we have the bose qc45 at 329 us dollars and then the px7s ii and the wh 000x mark 5 at 399 us dollars the apple airpods max is still the most expensive at 549 us dollars so my quick conclusion is that if you have an iphone well just go for the apple airpods max the anc is great the sound quality is there and the ease of use with the apple ecosystem is really the biggest selling point if you're using an android phone though you'll want to look at the wh 0000x m5 for the best anc the px7s2 for the best sound quality the qc45 for the best comfort and the wh 0000x mark 4 for the best value anyway those are my thoughts on all of these headphones if you guys have
