Pool Algae and Phosphate Control

okay if your pool has continuous algae problems you may have a problem with too many phosphates in your pool you we'll have to use an algicide to get rid of the algae first and then the fos uh free chemical should eliminate any more algae growth you're also going to need a test to phosphate level to make sure that is a problem to begin with so I have these uh phosphate test strips I'll go ahead and run a test you see how I do it and order to do the phosphate test correctly you need a 10ml test tube you want to carefully get a strip out without getting anything wet you want to close it up keep this in a dry cool place we're going to go ahead and fill the test tube up to the 10ml mark now we're going to take the test tube and the strip we're going to bend the strip we're going to stick it in the test tube like this oops try that again I'm going to put the cap on and we're going to carefully turn it up down slowly five times okay then we'll get the reading you want to go ahead and take take the strip out guess in order to get the reading we want to look down inside the tube you can see that's a blue color now we want to match it up with the location on the chart where's the color and this one here is about 300 so the phosphate levels in this pool is 300 as you can see it has algae growth so I'm going to go ahead and add some phosfree and there's pretty pretty clear directions on the back of the your phosphate a test kit but that's basically how you do the test so I use phosfree there's you know a few different phosphate removing uh chemicals this one is the least expensive of them so it says right here if the phosphate level is 300 or less you want to use about 16 oz uh per 10,000 gallons so I'm going to go ahead and add this pool is about 12,000 Gall so I'm going to go ahead and add about 16 oz into the skimmer you want to shake up the bottle pretty well get all that mixed and you want to be careful not to add too much cuz you can clog your filter up so it can spread the dosage out over time over a day or two that way you don't clog your filter keep an eye on the pressure make sure your filter is clean before you start the process here adding the phospher to your pool the cap is 4 oz and it's also your weekly dose maintenance dose I'm going to go ahead and add it to the skimmer so I'm going to put four of these in to make 16 oz you want to make sure you shake it that way it has that milky look to it so I'm going to go ahead and add three more of that to make 16 oz you can also get a measuring cup do the same treatment so in order for algae to grow it does need the phosphates in the water this is a relatively expensive way to keep the algae out of your pool but if you do have a problem with phosphates if you have a pool that has continue algae problems I go ahead and start the phosphate treatment and see if that helps of course you have to use algicides uh first to eliminate the problem but this helps you maintain it and reduce the phosphates that will kind of keep the algae from blooming in your pool they don't want you to back wash your filter either for the first week or so of adding this product you want to keep it inside the filter so make sure your filter is clean before you start the process you can also take it in to get a test at a pool store if find is too complicated and here's a pool a month after I started the treatment with the alra side and putting the phos fre and to lower the phosphate levels down you can see all the algae is completely gone after 1 month one of the keys to any kind of algae treatment is keeping the coring level high that way the algae won't bloom and you can see this one here has remained pretty hide throughout the whole treatment so if you're having an algae problem and you used algicide and you've shocked your pool and it's still blooms try the phosphate remover and see if that helps in this particular pool it really helped it's been a month and it looks like a brand new pool using the treatment and again I use algicide I super chlorinated and I use this phos free to lower the phosphate levels down uh just to get the algae from to stop blooming every week week in and week out
