Final Exam Review
The following concepts will help you prepare for the final exam.
The exam consists of 85 multiple choice questions and 1 essay question worth 15 points (15 total points - 12 points for content, 3 points for writing skills)
Unit 1: Driving, Mobility, and Laws (Chapters 1, 2, & 3)
* What are the three parts of the Highway Transportation system?
* What is right of way? When should you yield the right of way?
* What are the 8 shapes and colors used for traffic signs?
* What is the meaning of the various signal lights used to regulate traffic?
* Explain the meaning of all painted roadway markings?
Unit 2: Basic Vehicle Control (Chapters 4, 5, & 6)
* What are the functions of the instruments, controls, and devices of the automobile?
* What are the inside and outside checks needed when preparing to drive a vehicle?
* Explain the use of each gear.
* What is the difference between active and passive restraints? Provide examples of each.
* What are the procedures to safely put the car in motion?
* Describe the procedures for steering straight ahead and the two methods for steering to turn.
Unit 3: Foundations of Effective Driving Using IPDE, Smith System and Zone Control
* Name the 3 major factors that can contribute to the degree of risk you encounter while driving.

* Describe an orderly visual search pattern.
* Explain the structure of the Zone Control System.

Unit 4: Applying Effective Driving (Chapters 9 & 10)

* What factors affect driving on urban and suburban streets?
* What factors affect driving on multi-lane expressways?
* What factors affect driving on rural roads?
* Compare and contrast controlled and uncontrolled intersections.
* Explain how to properly cross both controlled and uncontrolled railroad crossings.
* List the different types of interchanges and explain how each one is used.
Unit 5: Challenges to Vehicle Control (Chapters 12 & 13)
* What three highway conditions require you to adjust speed?
* List the three components of total stopping distance.
* What natural laws can affect your ability to drive?
* How does low-light and night-time affect driving?
* Explain how to manage visibility, time, and space in rain and snow conditions.
* Describe three weather-related conditions that can affect your driving.
Unit 6: Environmental Challenges & Emergencies (Chapters 14 & 15)

* What environmental factors outside the vehicle can cause risk?
* How should you react to the following situations: engine, brake, and steering failure?

Unit 7: Driving Readiness (Chapters 16, 17, & 18)
