Google Event Coverage and Pixel 9 Review

if you guys truly enjoy our videos please don't forget to like And subscribe for those of you who are only interested in the review portion I'll leave some time stamps enjoy the show H interesting I love the s24 ultra but uh you guys really want me to switch to the pixel and for the longest time I've been literally contemplating into switching to the pixel and it really seems like you guys want me to make this switch anyways um I got to catch a flight at 6:15 cuz I'm going to California for the Google event and you guys are coming [Music] it's 9:50 I just landed I'm tired but here we are we're about take an Uber and get some sleep I'm also heavily debating on getting McDonald's 7 [Music] Minutes C is here C here yes thank you so much [Music] well this this is the room one thing though I love about the high it is that they always have the nicest bathroom so shout out to you guys for having cool bathrooms and then this this here is pretty much the rest of the room a nice bed pretty well decorated for those who are not aware Mountain View is very popular because it houses a lot of tech companies which includes Google and I guess that's why there's a mountain here and a bunch of PC components look I'm not going to bore you with this Vlog I'm still debating on whether or not I should order McDonald's uh I should probably shower and eat and head to bed tomorrow I've got a pretty big day uh 6:30 to 8:30 breakfast 8:35 shuttle to Bay View campus is 10 to 11:30 we're going to have the made by Google keynote 11:30 to 1:40 a bunch of demos I hope I get to play with the pixel as much as possible then we have an international press round table at 145 and at 2:30 to 4:00 another demo that's going to be fun and then at 4: it's pretty much done uh we get to transfer back to the hotel and we have a dinner after so pretty packed very excited I just want to capture as much content as I possibly can and really bring you guys with me to this event because I've never been to Google especially here in California so I don't know I feel like if I bring guys with me and I get to film it you guys can live the experience through me I think that's a good ide not yet I'm going to dance by myself not nobody's watching don't really care if my rhythms off cuz I'm going to dance like nobody's [Music] watching no worries that's one right thank you so much [Music] sir do Jimmy Butler bro no way that's crazy Jimmy Butler so now it's basically the keynote right yeah now it's the keynote keynote for an hour I think it was yeah 1 hour and then hopefully devices afterwards we'll see yeah we're still not sure which devices we're getting but I'm hoping 9 XL Pro 9 Pro we'll see I'll keep you guys posted [Music] [Music] so the keynote by the time this goes live we've all seen it I just wanted to share this experience with you guys just to show you what it's like being here I wanted to start by saying that the auditorium is pretty damn big the sound projects super well it's a really nice experience you'll see a bunch of camera people running around trying to get shots that included me I guess and you got to see a lot of the features being very much demonstrated live exactly what you guys saw on TV and that included a few of their hiccups take a photo and ask check my calendar and see if I'm free when she's coming to San Francisco this year oh looks like we had a little demo issue let me try one more [Music] time nope uhoh oh my god well maybe that was a little too hard eventually they figured it out I got to see feature after feature after feature in fact Jimmy Butler was used within the ad me feature as a demonstration and of course I got to witness the products being announced live on stage it was really cool I was really excited to be there and at the same time a bit underwhelmed with the announcements but I was eager to try all the demos they had set up for [Music] us all right time for some to go I literally had no idea where I was going until I found a map that pretty much went over all the booths that were set up for us we had the pixel Booth Gemini the wearables and the home Booth both on a different floor all around them there were a few scattered tables with all the devices on them and before you guys roast me I wasn't the only one confused about the layout pixel okay this is down I see pixel is down where we looking for yeah exactly every Booth was divided in subsections where you were able to experience certain features that were announced during the keynote and pretty much enjoy some of the new products that Google has been announcing recently I personally really enjoyed it to be honest though I think what I was the most intrigued about was Gemini like I don't know to me it's simply Google Assistant but on steroids like in my head I didn't really find it did all that special which is why I experienced a few of their demos and I was running around asking some questions absolutely mosaics are super cool and let actually I didn't mean Mosaic I me mobile oh okay yeah a mobile sounds really cool you can make different plans I can just switch right away correct myself and then interrup and be like no I want to go this way so it's really like a fluid conversation having with somebody it is a Pete service right what's the difference between Google assistant and Gemini you guys want to bring Gemini to Google yeah you should definitely check upstairs check the demo on how they're working on so it's really interesting right like the phones are really interesting the hardware is really interesting don't get me wrong but I think the main point of this whole event is Gemini from what I can understand and it's really interesting how they try to bring Gemini to pretty much the whole Google ecosystem and how they want everything to come together to make it better experience for everyone I asked a guy downstairs cuz we were doing the Gemini life demo and I asked him what if my parents were to ask me what's the difference between Google assistant and Gemini because to them it's going to be like a Google assistant on steroids right focused on being your personal AI on your personal mobile devices what we're focused on here is bringing uh you know building an intelligent assistant for the home right so the home is a Comm is a communal environment and so we want to build a product that's that's right for everybody in the home and and that's really what we're focused on so Google Assistant uses Gemini models to we're bring yeah we're bringing Gemini technology to the Google Assistant to help unlock some of the new capabilities that you've seen here today like it being more conversational You' being able to ask uh you know natural follow-up convers right conversations Google assistant on steroids basically yeah it's it's definitely it's a big upgrade it really it really makes it a lot more delightful a lot this campus is ginormous um back I used to study computer science and software engineering my dream one of my dreams was to work for Google eventually like as a developer you know and just sort of go up in the ranks um obviously it changed but being here is very very cool there's a lot of software devs here uh a lot of marketing people there's so much going on at Google headquarters and it's just absolutely mindblowing you know I can't really show you everything because of how huge like this pieces but the buildings are incredible uh the infrastructure is just amazing and just cool to be [Music] here back just to keep TR I try to capitalize as much as I can yeah like to show a bit like to show people you know where we get to go and stuff they it's [Music] nice some reason I actually don't feel that tired which which is good um so good news I'm supposed to get my Pro XL by the end of this week so we're going to be able to take a look at it together and I think I'm switching I'm actually convinced I'm going to switch into it give it a try if the iPhone is not like that crazy for this year I might just you know I'll do the review video at the end of life and everything but I think I might just stick with the pixel up until the s25 ultra comes out I literally just took a shower and so I decided you know what why not just unbox this with you guys we're so lucky to be getting devices like this so I just wanted to share this with you so this here is Google pixel 9 in obsidian very nice phone lights right off let's open it up W you can definitely see the camera bump right there very nicely designed it feels really good at hand let's just take this [Music] off and we've got charging cable just your regular charging cable you know nothing too special proper materials it's nice very googly like feel and the last thing is I guess manuals guides and that stuff that's it with the SIM card ejector tool right here I think I might want the to set this phone up and just use it for the rest of my [Music] trip with every spin for ccope glass bits and pieces from planets that I've never been something there's no cooling nice yeah [Applause] [Music] my new phone while I was unboxing this I was like this very much reminds me of an iPhone like if the Google logo wouldn't be here it it screams iPhone to me I don't know like am I tripping like this this looks like an iPhone no yeah let me know down below anyways look here's what I'm going to do I'm going to spend the next week with it before I even talk to you guys about it see how it performs uh watch out for battery life take pictures with it just spend the weekend with it and see how it goes from there and then I'll give you guys a proper review and my first thoughts but I guess for now I just got to sit down and set this whole thing up here we are a week later with the pixel as my daily the good news is that I will be sticking with it up until the s25 ultra comes out I love the iPhone but I have a feeling there's not much to it this year although I'll be reviewing that when it comes out for sure as for the bad news I mean the phone is not perfect but it's a lot more interesting than last year's you see as my days have been going by I've been keeping track of the good things and the bad things it does I literally have a whole list within my keeps app the one thing I do want to start with is by stating that in hand it feels just like the 15 Pro and that was my very first impression when I first picked this up at the event now these past few days I've been rocking it without a case and that's mainly due to the fact that the phone is not out so I can't just go to a store and buy a case however with a few small disasters I've had the chassis seems to be solid I often wear fabric shorts with small Pockets my phones tend to slip out and this has done so into my wooden floors the crevices in my car and not a scratch up to now not even on these side glossy metal rails luckily these don't pick up fingerprints as much as I was scared they would you can see them but it's it's very subtle they do however pick up quite a lot of dust and just particles in general I'm not quite sure if it's because of the glossiness that the particles and just dust tends to show more on this material but I know for a fact the display picks up more dust because I did a test between all three phones I did this because I realized my screen kept getting quite Dusty throughout my days as a whole though in my hand it's heavy it feels sturdy it's not the smallest nor the biggest out of the three phones in my opinion it fits so well in hand and within a pocket but if you are the type of person to have dry hands it is quite a bit slippery not as bad as the pixel 9 though that I will say with a blend of the soft touch matte glass back and the glossy rails it sort of keeps you in check I'd say overall like most people can definitely rock this without a case and and I do find it awesome that it doesn't wobble on a table mainly because the camera bump extends throughout the whole phone the cameras the cameras are honestly really really good they are really good it might be too early to judge but the photos this outputs Straight Out of the Box are incredible the first thing I did though when I got my unit was tweaking the pro settings I quickly switched the resolution to 50 megapixels and I wanted to be able to obtain raw and jpeg pictures and the reason I'm mentioning this okay is because this goes hand inand with the fact that the pictures are really really good when I edit these on Lightroom I've noticed that it takes quite a lot to introduce noise into a picture I have so much margin for error and I can push the envelope when it comes to taking a picture within that crappy environment don't get me wrong though the iPhone and the s24 ultra do it as well but their noise tolerance from what I can see is lower than the pixels especially at different focal lengths the photos on the pixel even without any editing are more colorful softer but sharper where it needs to be skin tones are just right and the contrast makes sense it doesn't look overprocessed although my major gripe with a pixel is how much time it takes to take a photo like the shutter speed is actually ridiculously slow and this mainly happens when shooting raw and jpeg at 50 megapixels jpeg at 12 megapixels is fast but I think the iPhone beats it the s24 ultra and the iPhone also have better lens transition what I mean about this is that when choosing different focal lengths in picture mode the pixel is still a bit stuttery and a bit jittery it also takes a bit of time for it to adjust to the focal length and the right lens not a very good user experience in my opinion and if you want to shoot fast while transitioning lenses you're going to have a really hard time what I do like is that the megapixel count is high all across the board the main camera has a 15 megap sensor the ultra wide a 48 map sensor the telephoto at 5x a 48 map sensor and the front-facing camera delivers a 42 megapix sensor I think Google's 5x does a better job than the 5x camera within the iPhone and the s24 ultra the same thing goes when shooting at 30X I think the megapixels allows for it to produce better quality pictures hence why I guess I have so much room to play with within light room when it comes to video I know a lot of you wanted to see the focal length transition while recording it's not as bad as the transition between lenses and photo in fact it's quite smooth I'm not sure why they couldn't do it for photos within your everyday life if you record 4K at 30 frames per second without video boost the only difference you'll be able to point out between the iPhone and the s24 ultra are mainly the colors the s24 ultra is a bit more dull and not overly sharpened the iPhone has a bit more color and sharpens objects a bit more and the pixel9 pro XL is really colorful but I think it's the one that's the least sharp it kind of adds this haziness within objects but video boost tends to fix that really quickly although video boost can take time to process 4K at 30 frames per second can now be filmed up all the way to 20x it's actually really impressive how steady the sensor stays at 20x and with the video boost it makes things look better although not so much at night with poor [Music] lighting video boost at AK is also really nice I think the colors are identical though but the AK video is a lot sharper nighttime photography is awesome compared to the three fonts I want to say that the pixel sort of sits in the middle from time to time I felt quite comfortable though shooting pictures at night with this and also grading them on Lightroom and you know what's cool is that as a firsttime pixel user I haven't really been living with the same thermal complaints that people have had with their pixels in the past so look for me thermals on this phone have been great up to now sure it does run a tiny bit warmer than my s24 ultra on the regular but in terms of like heat dissipation I think the only few times the phone got really really hot was when I was trying transferring all my data from my s24 ultra to the pixel while it was also trying to install about 150 apps it also got really really hot sure a few nights ago when I was exporting about 38 pictures I edited on Lightroom all the other times I mean sure it can get a bit warm here and there for me that mainly happens when I'm using Android auto which most of the time consists of having ways open and Spotify going through my playlist I also want to add that sure while I'm editing on Lightroom it it does get quite a bit warm but nothing too crazy again and interestingly enough my iPhone 15 Pro Max gets hotter while fast charging compared to the pixel I think that's worth noting so um I do quite a lot with my phones quite a lot what I decided to do for a proper battery test is just to bring the camera with me and basically document my battery test as my days went by and the first test I did was a 10% battery life test mainly because I suck at charging my phone so I wanted to see how far a 10% battery life would get me so I woke up at around 6:00 a.m. on Friday and literally spent an hour in my bed scrolling through Twitter by 7:00 a.m. when I was getting in the shower the phone was at 6% so I took my shower made breakfast watched some YouTube while cooking answered some text and kept watching more YouTube while eating all at medium brightness and by 745 is I want to say the phone was running at 4% all of this without battery saver on by the way I got out of the house at around 8:00 a.m. with 3% and what really just killed it was Android auto well my phone just died and it's uh 809 it lasted till 809 it literally just died pretty good for a 10% battery test eventually well the next test I obviously ran was 100% battery life test so when I got to the office I plugged this in into a fast charger which took around an hour and a half for a full full charge so that morning at around 10:00 a.m. I continued working like usual I had spend lots of time on my phone all the way till 2:40 p.m. whether I was texting or on Instagram on Chrome with multiple tabs open notion Twitter or adobe reviewing contracts my phone was sitting at around 78% from there I spent a whole lot lot of time learning about my pixel and changing its UI I got home at around 6:30 p.m. with a battery life of 45% that night I chilled didn't touch my phone much besides just texting by 9:00 p.m. I was at 34% yes I go to bed early please don't judge me and in the morning without charging my phone at night I woke up to about 28% if I remember correctly this is what the overall battery usage since I last charg it on Friday morning looked like for me 5 hours and 26 minutes of screen time while mostly using these apps by 12:07 my phone was at 7% I didn't need to go out that evening so I made a quick charge in about 10 minutes I was able to get it all the way up to 24% that charge with very moderate use if I remember correctly um Android auto was running I think brightness was set to medium for the most part it lasted me till about 2:50 p.m. and I want to say I want to say I think it is better than the iPhone and the s24 ultra I felt like the phone lasted for longer although I might be wrong but that is the feeling I'm literally getting so yeah for the past few days this is what my battery life usage has looked like when it comes to the display the very first thing I noticed was the brightness the phone gets really bright out of the three phones it's the brightest at 3,000 nits it's actually really really noticeable but the second thing I realized is that it doesn't get as dim as the others the s24 ultra is the phone that's able to push its nits the lowest then comes the iPhone and then the pixel and when you turn on the extra dim feature it matches the iPhone more or less I do like the low brightness levels of the s24 Ultra screen way more especially at night when I'm in bed and in the morning ladies and gentlemen grainy display with the blacks and Grays is a thing just like on my s24 ultra I'm not sure if it's an OLED thing this year but I see grains from time to time it's annoying not a deal breaker for me like I said in my Ultra review but I know for some people it can be and I totally understand that this here has a 6.8 in ltpo display at 1344 P with a new ultrasonic fingerprint scanner that is incredibly fast look look look look again crazy that's freaking fast can just keep doing that again and again the colors are great consuming content on this has been awesome but it's not as sharp and as beautiful as the display on my s24 ultra I was also expecting for the pixel Pros to come with gorilla glass armor I'm kind of shocked it doesn't since it's a phone that's trying to be Flagship it's kind of disappointing especially because it's a phone that comes in at $10.99 USD I think the antireflectivity is a game Cher so I don't know it kind of sucks to be honest I also thought at first that the screen response time was poor like the very first time I started playing with my device it felt like there was a tiny delay on screen so what I did is that I put all the three phones side by side and I realized that for some things it can be faster for others slower and for some just the same I don't think the differences has to do with anything Hardware related but maybe more perhaps with Android 14 haptic feedback it's so so good it has a nice little punch to it it's actually not distracting at all the typing really translates that vibration from the screen really really well whether you're going back opening the app drawer sliding through apps highlighting text holding the screen it's all a really good experience the screen's accuracy from the few days I've had it is awesome sliding the cursor around the screen is a much better experience than on my s24 Ultra the haptic feedback kicks in nicely and it's extremely accurate also some of you asked about video call refresh rates whether it drops to 60 HZ or not and yes yes it does and I tested this within Google meets and also Zoom other than that for the most part the screen seems to always be running at 120 frames per second it's just as smooth as my iPhone or my s24 ultra only when you leave it unattended for a few seconds those hers actually drop to 60 frames per second whether you are on Reddit looking at images or on the home screen now this brings me to my next Point how's the UI and ux and the overall experience coming from an s24 ultra I think you guys are most inclined to ask things like does it lag does it feel sluggish does it feel slow and I'm happy to say that it actually feels kind of the same as my s24 ultra which is really nice now I don't know what other people's experiences with be like or are currently like but in our end or on my end at least it's been very good I haven't really experience weird stutters or crashes or freezes like Lightroom for example while I'm editing or exporting a ton of pics it doesn't lag or crashes on me I can have a ton of apps open and things were just fine multitasking too has been really good and the UI is fluid social media social media has been really great taking pictures straight from the Instagram app has been surprisingly really nice the quality of my pictures don't feel pixelated the same performance goes for Twitter here is a quick test to show you the difference in quality against taking the photo natively from the camera app versus the actual app itself overall I think the phone might be a tiny bit slower at loading timelines especially on Instagram and other components within the app but the UI and the fluidity it delivers is perfect whether I'm choosing picks for my post reviewing them choosing a song and tweaking it it all works fine like I said it's the loading times that feel a bit slower but not by much the amount it takes to post posting feels just about the same it feels like it takes the same amount of time to post anything really Twitter or X scrolling timelines has been great things load fast and interacting with the UI is no problem I've only ran into a single issue once where I had to restart the phone because the pictures on the timeline had completely stopped loading on Reddit that's never been the case the fluidity of the timeline is great pictures load insanely quickly loading comments is also really quick I think the social media aspect with the pixel has you pretty much covered and it's not the mentality I went into when I first decided that this was going to be my main device I really thought I was going to run into weird stuff living with a pixel and So eventually I did start to question the capabilities of this chip which is why I run a few geekbench tests to compare it to my s24 ultra I closed all apps on both phones ran the test while they were plugged in just in case and got really not so impressive scores for the tensor G4 chip the s24 ultra outputs a single core score of 2086 and a multi-core score of 6212 and then the pixel was able to yield a single core score of 1880 and a multi-course score of 2627 GPU wise both per formed extremely different we are talking about 6,438 versus 12,940 I was baffled like the difference in multi-course scores and GPU scores are insane on paper so since I've been using the native cameras of the pixel to take Raw photos I decided to take the same 20 edited 50 megapixel photos on both devices from the pixel and Export them using light the s24 ultra took 3 minutes and 22 seconds while the pixel took 6 minutes and 48 seconds and this is where you definitely see the difference in performance according to the benchmarks but this is what makes me wonder do I really need to push this phone that far to be able to notice the differences because during gaming both devices to me perform pretty much the same and during everyday tasks I mean performance-wise it felt very close to being the exact same again I think if anything this might just show that maybe Google's on to something maybe they figured out how to very much optimize their hardware for their software hm it's interesting with this this year tensor G4 is set to be 20% faster with web browsing and 177% faster with app launching and I think based on my own experience and my own tests I think we can say that Google is getting closer and closer to making Flagship pH this is why I usually don't like running synthetic benchmarks because it doesn't really translate those numbers well into I don't know real world use case scenarios I've always said it but what matters is how optimized the software to Hardware pipeline is on a device as for the rest the phone is not perfect I mean there are some weird things I genuinely dislike from Pixel like how holding the space bar to travel text on the keyboard is kind of sequential like you have to go all the way up until the end or beginning of a sentence to move up or down within text I also really dislike their native file system I can't even natively connect my studio server to interact with our data from their app I had to download a third party app that thank God works really really well it doesn't lag at all and I can easily move and copy data to my phone without having to wait to long call service call service in real world usage has been pretty much much the same as my s24 ultra to be honest I've never experienced interruptions or calls dropping when they are not supposed to the funny thing is that the s24 ultra sits below average and the pixel sits at close to no signal when it comes to the ideal phone strength on average the Samsung always seems to be sitting about 5 to 8 dbel m higher than the pixel I wouldn't worry too much about connectivity or these numbers because on both phones the cellular signal drops at the ex exact same time when I go in my underground garage the only thing with connectivity that annoys me from the pixel is that Android auto cuts off as soon as it has the chance to like going underground to my apartment garage Android auto starts to sort of act up and lags it only happens for a few seconds but it's never happened to my s24 ultra oh and when it comes to regaining signal the pixel does it first I did this test as I slowly made my way up to the lobby of my apartment complex overall reception Wi-Fi and for the most part Android auto has been good Gemini life it's really impressive I had more time to play with it and it really is like Google Assistant but on roids Gemini live is like if chat GPT and Google Assistant had a baby so no it's not like any other voice assistant like Alexa or another Siri it really is a conversational tool that caters to our needs what can I do for you today uh so I'm actually getting married soon and I was hoping you could find some wedding venues in Montreal congratulations on your engagement Montreal has a ton of beautiful wedding venues to help me narrow down the options do you have any specific ideas or musthaves I would like for it to be in downtown downtown Montreal has a vibrant wedding scene sorry gini sorry U maybe outside of the island of Montreal so not downtown okay no problem at all how about we aim for something with a view think of a place with big Windows overlooking nature or maybe even an outdoor ceremony space would you like that yeah I think that's a good idea let's let's do that great let's find you a place with a view to start do you want to stay in the city or head out to the countryside yeah so like I said I do want to head out to the countryside sounds good are you thinking something rustic and cozy like a barn or more elegant and fancy like a V yeah yeah yeah like rustic that sounds good okay hello hello there what can I do for you today it's really cool it actually just bugged as I was showing you guys the demo but it it it's awesome because I would like for us to be able to yes okay take the transcript and start from a point again like this is where it bugged and I would love for maybe Google to implement something where I could restart from this point let me actually try something though um hey Gemini do you remember about The Rustic part yes I do remember we were talking about venues outside of downtown Montreal that have a rustic feel I just want to confirm are you still open to the idea of a view or rather have a as you might have seen the speakers are really good on this not as good as the s24 ultra I actually did a blind test with Jan and we both had the same [Music] conclusion make them chase was it be a shot clock first place got them running place like they in a [Music] race it's a solid speaker system seems like it's louder than the s24 ultra but we feel like it does it in order to compensate for the lack of quality the s24 ultra is BAS here it sounds like it's been fine-tuned and it's a smoother sound coming out of the grills as for the extra features that pixel came with to be honest I haven't had much time to play with them like I haven't had time to play with adme or even the screenshots app I do think screenshots is going to be one hell of a good app for me I tend to take screenshots all the time as reminders notes and so on that I'm going to love about pixel other small things that I truly love are things such as using quick tap that I've set up for taking a screenshot or being able to swipe up to the app drawer and long press on any visible text to copy and paste you can also do the same with images and I enjoy things like shaking the camera to go back and forth between selfie and regular mode I do like the s24 ultra one-handed more far better though the pixel seems like it's a very limited UI experience and the overall search within the s24 ultra is better it's just more advanced and complete when it comes to giving you different results this this has been my pixel 9 Pro XL experience this past week no BS it was literally me just bringing my camera everywhere I could I Tred to talk about this device as much as I could based on my own experience that's why my battery test mainly focused on real world use Mage look I'm curious to see other people's thoughts experiences I'm actually excited to see all the other reviews that are going to come out today I honestly love seeing Google taking a leap in performance optimization this to me seems like a really really good candidate in the flagship World overall I think it's a it's a really really really good phone I'm going to be sticking to it all the way up until the s25 ultra comes out so I'm happy to very much announce that I love it I really really like it I think that's just going to give me the opportunity to offer you guys some proper feedback in the next few months and how my experience with pixel has been so yeah this has been my pixel review I hope I answered a lot of your questions like And subscribe if it was helpful I hope to see you all soon take care [Music]
