Cochlea Structure and Function

so this is the so the cochlea is right here so this right here is the cochlea so this here is like this right in here like this this is like this section made really big so like the cochlea in your ear is like metal and so this is ginormous compared to that so when you look at the cochlea you're going to have these different um basically fluid filled areas so you have like the purple which is representing purple up here we have the pink down here and then the green here so this is representing this just a lot bigger so when we're looking at this this this kind of diagonal membrane that you're seeing here in here that's going to be the vestibular membrane or reasoner's membrane so it's got a person's name or you can call it vestibular membrane here this whole area like right in here this is the organ of corti the area in here or you can kind of see right here this would be where that organ of corti is right here so this has all the little hair cells because what happens is you have like fluid in these different cavities and remember that you have the the malaise inca stapes the stapes is attached to that oval window and when it vibrates it sends vibrations through the fluid that goes through the cochlea and those vibrations will basically cause this tectoral membrane to move and when that moves it basically deflects the hair cells here so these are these little green things are the hair cells so when that membrane moves it bends those hair cells and that sends nervous signals through that cochlear nerve there so this all kind of comes down and ultimately becomes the cochlear nerve there so these are the little hair cells that you have here this part right here is the basilar membrane that you're seeing here this space that you're seeing in here is the cochlear duct it's kind of hard to see that there's like this makes a big kind of like circle they're only showing you part of it so there's a space right here that would be above here and that's going to be your scala vestibule is here like i said it would be up here and then down here the green which we would see down here below that basil remembering this place is called scala timpani so skeleton pawnee scale vestibular cochlear duct there so the organ of cortisone that cochlear duct portion of the cochlea itself hair cells these little hair cells have stereocilia on them the little little guys up there stereocilia the baseline membrane i think that's all of them that sounds like all of them right all right
