Promoting Peace and Non-Violence

so good morning everyone this is brother josh alfres i'd like to present to you this morning another topic of peace as well as a culture of peace so the title of this presentation is promoting culture of peace and violence so what's the un all about united nations we know that one then according to the charter to save the succeeding generations from scourge of war have you ever wondered if there is a vaccine to prevent war like today we have the pandemic vaccine but ward is a long journey a long history of war so have you ever wondered if there is a vaccine to prevent war so let's talk about the culture of peace a lot about this cultural peace i think you're familiar you heard that one and you have a lot of seminars about cultural peace and for those who attended laptop seminars this is just uh a review or a refresher course then let's move on according to sweehen as well as kawagas culture of peace cultivates and promotes values attitudes understanding action and practices for building individuals families communities societies and nations and in the world in general by the way to swihin he was the one the founder of peace education in mindanao particularly in notre dame together with his partner his wife virginia kawagas they were the one who introduced peace education and i think i told you already technique university then m issue and another universities like ateneo they also they're also offering peace education but it started in notre dame university with the person responsible to swihin and his partner virginia kawagas then for the united nations culture of peace is also a set of values attitudes and ways of living that reject violence prevent conflicts by uprooting their causes and solve problems through dialogue and negotiation among individuals groups and nation and i think this is of excludatory but still it's like like a refresher course for those who attended the seminar in the culture of peace so let's move on remember the primal of the unesco it is said since wars begin the minds of men it is in the minds of men that defenses of peace must be constructed for guess what the e in the unesco means education the men need lessons about peace and also women including the kids that's why education is very very important i'm happy that we have this subject concepts of peace so that will be reminded so reminded once again that we are all responsible to spread to educate the so-called culture of peace there was a manifesto of the culture of peace people called the year 2000 a new beginning a new opportunity to turn culture of war and violence into the culture of peace and non-violence so that's a manifesto and i think you are also familiar with this non-violence which was propagated or the proponent was gandhi with his non-active violence from from the culture of war to culture of peace then this manifesto for a culture of peace and ambulance was drafted by the nobel prize winners to translate resolutions of the united nations into every language and to make them relevant to people everywhere good idea let's make peace something we call we can call we can all understand so it's good that it was translated to the variant languages in filipino i think we have also in filipino for english manito so english okay now the manifesto culture of peace is first the respect all life then second reject violence third share with others the fourth listen to understand the fifth preserve the planet then the last one rediscover solidarity so we'll tackle this one by one the first respect for life all life respect the life and dignity of each human being without discrimination or prejudice i think this is true to all these sons including us especially in mindanao we have a lot of discrimination and prejudices with each other nasa naman right after this course [Music] there is a need for us because there is a wall there is a need for us to break that wall then we have to build bridges in order to attain the so-called culture of peace next reject violence that's why another manifesto non-active violence rejecting violence in all forms including physical sexual psychological economical and social in particular towards the most deprived and vulnerable such as children and adolescents and including women because they are the vulnerable sector in our society so once again all forms of violence physical in the philippines i'm happy and we are happy that we have not the law the vows if you still remember republica 1962 of 2004 annoyancia violence against women the children are anti-violence against women children act of 2004 that's why nowadays because they are suffering this violence especially the domestic violence sexual emotional psychological social undress so next share with others share your time my time and material resources in a spirit of generosity to put an end to exclusion injustice and political and economic oppression the problem nowadays people in sabinating because of the greediness didn't want to share and secondly but for us when you give that's being generous to others you give without string attacks you give bank okay that's generosity share your talent your time if you have material things you share especially nowadays why not if not material if not our time i think we can pray for those people that's our share okay so that's a manifesto next listen to understand defend freedom of expression and cultural diversity giving preferences always to dialogue and listening without engaging fanaticism defamation and rejection of others freedom of expression and cultural diversity so what kind of diet and i don't know in our countries my problem time with this freedom of expression remember abs-cbn make a salaam salaam of course we do not deny on that what about the good things but so the freedom of expression freedom of the press cultural solidarity and the other side of the point only the m preserve the planet and i think familiar with this we have a lot of problems today especially in our environment or mother earth like baguio storm surge and the rest again promote consumer behavior that is responsible and the development practices that respect all forms of life preserve the balance of nature on the earth and we can we are all contributors why our mother earth nowadays sirens but we can repair simple things preservation of energy and so big nothing kind of throwing our candy wrapper human in preserving our environment then rediscover solidarity contribute to the development of my community with full participation of women and respect for democratic principles in order to create together a new form of solidarity it emphasizes detouring participation of women and why because until today you look at the surroundings or the leadership all over rediscover solidarity and we can attest to that in the philippines leader m in emphasize dato the full participation of women and respect for democratic principles in order to create together new forms of solidarity casino i'm happy today now with this citizens okay so these are the people who signed the manifesto the nobel prize awardee or winners and of course the nation in there are 31 nations of course including our counter the philippines that was years ago some people have been working for more than 10 whole years some have been working a lot longer it can keep you busy your whole life okay we have to work for peace for the sake of education peace is still a distant dream i think you would agree with that in many parts of the world peace is still a distant dream and children suffer from conflict and violence do we give up working for peace the united nations general assembly resolution at the beginning of 2010 called the renewed effort by the un its member states and civil society including non-government organization all that means all of us the dream will become reality if we'll be able to achieve the so-called peace in mindanao we have the barm and we're are happy happy for that yes this ball is the only solution for peace in mindanao we are still hoping for that and waiting for that is peaceful we are still dreaming of the so-called peace then what makes peace grow according to you and then you may enumerated first peacekeeping for new peacekeeping i think 19th honeymoon you get a deeper meaning than peace building i i still remember nexan ahunan peace building that's one of the concept of peace then preventing conflicts disarmament sustainable development what about sustainable development you and they have also the definition of the sustainable development you know meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising or sacrificing the needs of the future generations is a future generation but when you talk about this the global warming climate change or what is happening to our mother nature mother earth that's what we call sustainable development okay then promoting human dignity and human rights then democracy the rule of law good governance gender equality okay we have the nation scan nation the nation can the nation can do it can make peace the culture of peace do more to promote the culture of peace and non-violence nationally regionally and internationally satan regionally i hope this worm would reject to the national natal maging peace and of course to the whole world see kathmandu it would attract to the whole world to the whole philippines to the whole world canada nations can unesco and the other groups also can strengthen their activities that promote culture of peace i think all of them the u.n groups the unesco they are doing their part all over the world all over the country to promote the so-called culture of peace the united nations peace building commission can also keep promoting the culture of peace and non-violence especially children and white children because they are vulnerable of course women and egypt then people in charge of education can teach about mutual understanding tolerance active citizenship human rights and a culture of peace so especially for us teachers it's our truth and it's our responsibility to teach peace to our children to teach culture of peace to the children to our students then young people can promote culture of peace and non-violence and tell everybody about the culture of peace attitudes the values and the skills knowledge okay each of us can plan activities to support and fill in the gaps in what nations and the united nations another or other big organizations are doing it don't be subject to say nothing i think when i talk of my psd in notre dame university every subject marunyang emerson community based among subject nothing then when i transferred in polytechnic because of this problem but they make problem so maybe in our heart and our mind can united nations and the other organizations but this award for all of us okay now tv radio and the internet can also educate for the culture of peace and non-violence by using the culture of peace network news network of internet sites in many languages abs-cbn national regional station close and why people love eb cbn to hear the news sometimes in this multimedia at the social media my problem because they are not bringing good news sometimes they are bringing violence [Music] the good news especially educating the culture of peace to the people to the whole world there are times also in our the social media internet so but once again the tv the radio and the internet can educate for the culture of peace and non-violence okay why not send me just then we can all join in especially this one every september 21. september 21 each year of the international day of peace as a day when people stop fighting that's international day of peace every year september 21 september 21 in the philippines memorable day in september 21 and okay then help spread the word the united nation wants to hear about you and i are doing to help the culture of peace and non-violence grow so sana because it's our all of us we have the expanded responsibility to promote the so-called peace as well as the culture of peace then what does all this mean make peace your focus make peace your focus then if you are doing good things for peace keep it up once again if you are doing good things for peace keep it up then we are all in this on this planet together so why not work together i mean for all of us it's our responsibility okay that's why we need to contribute then let's learn from each other and spread the word peace as well as the culture of peace then the so-called culture of peace there are frameworks or elements or issues walking the six parts to peace what about this path to peace militarization structural violence human rights cultural solidarity environmental care and personal six battles of peace dismanting the culture of war living with compassion and justice promoting human rights and social responsibility building intercultural solidarity living harmony with the earth or the environment cultivating the inner peace so these are the six issues or the petals of peace if you look at the that gummamela that petals they are interrelated they are interconnected when they talk about culture of peace when you talk about ender peace or dismantling the cultural world militarization because there is a gap between the rich and the poor the injustice then what about asian globalization and liberalization then you this dismantling the culture of war at the young militarization between guns and food especially the children [Music] so but you are not promoting the culture of peace you are promoting the culture of violence internet you look at the internet the culture of war okay if you can see that picture is all about of course cultural solidarity or building intercultural respect reconciliation and solidarity all over the world all over the world kaizen country mehmed aluma maimong ips and this eyepiece they're also trying history would tell us that we are all ips we are all lumad whether you like it or not okay especially especially i think all over the philippines we you have tabu nawai islam but when the visionaries came islamic missionaries as well as the christian missionaries and they have their religion they have their own belief then but since they are the minority has been building intercultural respect from a second class citizen because we are the majority and it should not be like that in order to promote this saving up building intercultural respect reconciliation and solidarity then promoting human rights and responsibility and i think all of us teachers well as military the midwives we have a lot of seminars about human rights and i hope i can also record the issue on human rights part of your refresher and because this is one of the framework of the culture of peace then living in harmony with the earth living in harmony with red eating environmental care environmental care nothing because of the environmental destruction then my ethics of interpersonal responsibility the development aggression like lagging mining agribusiness etc environment is then nurturing the inner peace nurturing the inner peace if you can still remember part of your assignment young how can i attain the so-called peace thing assignment how that's from within and this peace from within it would reject to our family to the community and to others and i think that will be the next topic right after this maybe the next salsa next record gonna lecture inner peace it will start from within okay sabina we cannot change others in the world we're going to talk about peace if ourselves like a problem so we have to cultivate this uh nurture this so-called inner peace and with that i hope you learned something then next topic that i'm going to record or to share with you i'll start with the inner peace then the rest i'll give you as part of your assignment the six issues so once again god bless you all andios you
