Roasting and Upgrading Gaming Setups

Introduction

Objective: Six years ago, roasted worst gaming PCs of employees. Now doing it again, sponsored by Nvidia.
Prize: Full gaming setup upgrade for the winner.

Position: Editor extraordinaire
Current Setup: Uses a pre-built laptop mainly for gaming; GTX 1050 GPU.
Issues:
- Pre-built system from 2017.
- Old GPU not capable of leveraging Nvidia G-Sync and Reflex technologies.
Advantages: Has a good monitor, but not set up yet.

Position: Senior content writer for Labs
Current Setup: Couch gaming with minimal equipment.
Issues:
- Far from screen (minimalist setup).
- Uses old, cheap tech from places like Costco.
- Lacks HDR display, which is crucial for Nvidia’s RTX Video HDR technology.

Setups: Two setups: one for podcasting in a closet, other for general use.
Current Setup:
- Very low effort and dire need for upgrade.
- Uses old, inappropriate foam for sound isolation.
- Low-quality, dim monitor.
- Lots of clutter, including paper flyers for takeout.
Additional Comments: Uses work computer through remote access for gaming.

Reason for Winning:
- Demonstrated the most dire need for an upgrade.
- Maxed out X-factor score.
Consolation Prizes: Robert and Onie to receive a 4070 Super GPU.

Gaming Rig: Fully upgraded with a high-quality tower, new peripherals, and better cable management.
Monitors: Added a Dell Alienware 27-inch 360Hz QD OLED monitor and an LG Dual Up monitor for the podcasting setup.
Improved Space: Enhanced privacy and noise isolation for podcasts.
Audio Equipment: Provided Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro headphones; custom-cut mouse pad.
Overall Improvements: Bright, high refresh rate monitor, better GPU (RTX 4080 Super), sturdy desk, and efficient cable management.
