[Music] my name is shaik dasas I'm an assistant professor at the human computer interaction Institute here at carnegi melon University and I'm also Affiliated faculty with CMU syop I run the security privacy usability and Design Lab here at CMU it's short for the Spud lab and broadly speaking a lot of our research is oriented around answering this question how can we Design Systems that Empower people with greater agency over the personal data and experiences online I accomplished this through three different research thrusts in my lab the first is what I call the human factor research thrust for this thrust we are trying to design systems that make it simpler for users to be able to employ um expert recommended security and privacy best practices the second thrust is what I called the power thrust so with the power thrust we're designing systems that shift power over personal data and experiences back towards end users and away from large institutions and the final thrust is what I call the design thrust and this is sort of recognizing this idea that there are many practitioners industry building the consumer facing Technologies we know and love but they don't always necessarily have the resources or the incentive structures necessary to foreground privacy and Security in their decision-making processes Kai is an ACM conference for the special interest group in computer human interaction it is the Premier International Conference in human computer interaction and so it's a really great venue to get like-minded individuals who who who think about the impacts of computing Technologies on society to come together in one place to share their work knock heads think about new sorts of interesting research ideas to pursue and so it's it's it's a great menu
