Efficient Work: Focus on Processes

grinding 24/7 and working hard is actually something that I believe in in that sometimes it is very necessary but it's how people are doing it that I disagree with in that people are able to work hard they're able to work smart but it's where they invest that energy that's the main problem let's go through these two perspectives that a lot of people miss and how you can really make sure that you concretize these perspectives into your own system the first perspective is realizing that increased input does not lead to increased output a lot of people are missing what happens in the middle and that's the process so input does not just directly lead to Output input leads into a process which then leads into output initially when you put in more energy and time you will see increased input you will see increased output as well you'll see for example if you just spend an additional 2 hours working out you will see that your body is getting more fit you are losing more weight you are making progress but an additional 2 hours won't lead to the exact same result or the exact same change in the output what this means is investing more time and energy and effort is not going to be the only answer increasing input is not what you should be focusing on rather you should be focusing on the process Henry for has this quote where he says if I asked people what they wanted they would have asked for Faster Horses what this means is people are just thinking about how they can work harder in the current state they're not thinking about how they can change the state they're not thinking about how they can change their processes they're only thinking about how input can be increased or decreased to change the output that's the first perspective realizing that there's something in the middle and we need to work on our processes because by working on our processes even without increasing our input if our processes are efficient and they really catalyze our growth then we can significantly increase the output without even having to put any additional effort into the input now that you understand this perspective I want to go through how you can embody this perspective in the work that you're doing so let's say for example you are a salesperson and I'll start with an analogy if you have a car working harder and doing things called additive changes means that you're putting more fuel into the car you are able to increase the distance the car is going and again you done this by just increasing the fuel increasing the input what we want to do instead is we want to make sure that we change the engine we need to make the engine more efficient so even if we have the same level of fuel we're still able to go further we call these compounding changes what we want to do is we want to focus on making more compounding changes than we do do additive changes again let's go back to the example of a salesperson so A salesperson they might realize that to work harder they just need to make more calls this is an additive change so instead of making 30 calls a day they might decide to double the amount of calls that they make and they might do 60 calls because they do 60 calls yes they will see that there's an increase in the output in that they may be landing more sales but eventually there's going to be a plateau to the input or the sales amount can increase per day for example the salesperson might only be able to make 80 calls before work ends and that's if they work very hard after 80 calls it's impossible to increase the amount of calls that they make therefore they will reach a plateau in their output what the salesperson should do instead is instead of making more calls the salesperson should work on the script that they're using to close the deals they should be also working on the processors or the way that they speak to customers to be more friendly with them to connect with them to build more Rapport which then leads to a higher success rate so for a salesperson this literally might be looking at their script editing it getting some people getting some professional and mentors to help them with their sales script so that way without having to increase effort in regards to the amount of calls the salesperson makes it's rather they're increasing the effort that they put into the process and eventually The increased effort into the process is what leads to increased output eventually they'll be able to take a step back from having to increase their effort regarding the process and without even having to change the input the output drastically increases in the context of a student studying instead of studying and taking more notes if they got a learning coach if they learned how to learn better if they reflected on their learning processes then they would get much better they not spending more time learning in fact they might even spend less time learning because if their learning system is so efficient they're able to achieve higher results in less time what we're doing here is we're making sure that we're focusing on compounding changes not additive changes because additive changes will lead to a plateau whereas to compounding changes really much help and make sure that you change the state books courses mentorships are very useful to making compounding changes because now what you're doing is you're getting education around how you can get better instead of just increasing the amount of hours that you put in this is very important for grind culture because if you can avoid working 24/7 in the first place you should because you don't want to sacrifice sleep family time exercise or just your health so if you can really prioritize getting education and changing the state making compounding changes this is going to be the most important thing that you can do in order to make sure that you are able to still Hustle but hustle more in less time to know how to make compounding changes check out my school Community the weekend Academy where you can spend time with other students and professionals and discuss how you can make these more compounding changes instead of just working harder how can you work smarter how can you be more proactive in other ways again being proactive is King if you aren't going to be proactive you will literally perish but you need need to be proactive about the right things be proactive about compounding changes and forget about being proactive on additive changes work on what you need to compound first work smart first and then work hard
