foreign [Music] welcome to your first experiment in gen chem 1. I will demonstrate what you will be doing in lab today using a 150 ml Beaker and a 50 mil priorit you are instructed to measure 50 mL of di water in the following glassware an early Mario flask a beaker and a graduated cylinder and 10 mL of di water and the following glassware a buret and volumetric pipette for this demo I will only be measuring out 20 ml of di water in the beaker which is a non-analytical piece of glassware first thing you need to do is tear out the specific piece of your class where you'll be using simply place the 150 ml Beaker on top of the balance and press the tear button on the bottom right corner the balance should Now read zero once it does you may take the beaker off the balance and place it to the side now fill your piece of glassware to the required Mark in this case I will fill the 150 mil Beaker up to the 20 mil graduation mark once filled you may place a beaker back on the balance and it will not present you with a mass of just the water in this case the 19.35 grams we will now be moving on to analytical glassware such as buret and pipettes this type of glassware can just be placed on the top of the blinds so please don't try it simply open the clamp and place the buret inside make sure the numbers and graduation marks are facing you so that you may read the classwork properly now you may feel the buret all the way up to the 50 ml using a funnel in this case to the zero on other types of glassware such as graduated cylinders the zeros at the bottom of the scale with the values increasing going up however burette has a zero at the top with the values increasing going down remember not to exceed going past the zero if you do so simply take some out as I did here now that the bread is filled we can't just let the water run straight on top of the balance itself so we must place a beaker under the buret to catch the water we need to measure remember to tell your Beaker like we did before once you tear it out place the beaker back under the buret dispense all the way down to the indicated volume in this case the 10 mils once it is filled place the beaker back on the balance and record The Mask presented to you in this case the 9.50 grams you will now replicate this procedure using the rest of the indicated glassware and perform the proper calculations needed please ask your ta any questions you might have we are here to help you have fun doing experiment one [Music]
