Introduction

Three Types of Visions

  1. Satvik Vision: Recognizes oneness despite apparent differences.
  2. Rajasik Vision: Focuses on differences and gives them reality.
  3. Tamasik Vision: Fanatically attached to parts, ignoring the whole.

Three Types of Karma

  • Karma influenced by the three types of vision.

Analysis of Karta (Doer)

  • Sattvic Karta: Selfless, duty-bound, and works for the welfare of others.
  • Rajasik Karta: Motivated by attachment and desires for results, often materialistic and greedy.
  • Tamasik Karta: Lacks integration, is lazy, impulsive, and often wicked.

Characteristics of Rajasik Karta

  • Ragi: Full of attachments and insists on specific outcomes.
  • Karma Phala Prepsuhu: Focused on material results.
  • Lubdha (Greedy): Always wanting more, often at the expense of others.
  • Himsatmaka: Tendency towards violence when desires aren't met.
  • Ashuchi (Impure): Driven by ulterior motives and often deceitful.
  • Harsha Shokanvita: Fluctuates between elation and dejection based on outcomes.

Characteristics of Tamasik Karta

  • Ayuktaha: Lacks integration with intellect, guided by impulses.
  • Prakrutaha: Unrefined and impulsive.
  • Stabdha: Stubborn and arrogant.
  • Shathaha: Foolish and wicked.
  • Naishkritikaha: Malicious, harming others for personal gain.
  • Alasaha: Lazy and procrastinating.
  • Vishadhi: Gloomy and depressed.
  • Dhirgha Sutri: Procrastinator, delays indefinitely.

Moving Towards Sattvik Qualities

  • Encouragement to introspect and strive towards Sattvik qualities in vision, karma, and being.

Understanding Buddhi (Intellect)

  • Satvik Buddhi: Clearly understands pravrtti (pursuit), nivrtti (withdrawal), karya (duty), akarya (non-duty), bhaya (fear), and abhay (fearlessness).
  • Rajasik Buddhi: Confused, unclear about dharma and adharma.
  • Tamasik Buddhi: Misunderstands dharma as adharma, often fanatical.

Understanding Dhruti (Fortitude)

  • Satvik Dhruti: Holds onto goals with unwavering patience and perseverance.
  • Rajasik Dhruti: Driven by desire for material gains, sustains effort for power and pleasure.
  • Tamasik Dhruti: Holds onto delusions, fears, sorrow, and arrogance.

Pursuit of Happiness

  • Happiness is also tri-fold: Satvik, Rajasik, and Tamasik.
  • True happiness leads to the end of sorrow and is found in self-knowledge.
