Diane Arbus
was an American photographer known for her intimate black-and-white portraits.
She focused on photographing people on the fringes of society, such as the mentally ill, transgender individuals, and circus performers.

(1967) - explored themes of identity through physical resemblance and differences.
Born Diane Nemerov on March 24, 1923, in New York, NY.
Raised in a wealthy family, which allowed her to pursue artistic interests early on.
Influences included Mathew Brady, Paul Strand, and Eugène Atget.
Started a commercial photography venture with her husband Allan Arbus in the mid-1940s, contributing to Vogue and Harper's Bazaar.
Transitioned to street photography in the 1950s, capturing New York City's citizens.
Participated in the Museum of Modern Art's exhibition "New Documents" in 1967 with Garry Winogrand and Lee Friedlander.
Struggled with depression and committed suicide on July 26, 1971.
Posthumous retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in 1972.
Her works are in collections of major museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the National Gallery of Art.
