You do not have justice. The incident took place on 8th August 2024 in the state-run Arjikar Medical College and Hospital. The deceased, a second-year student of the Chess Medicine Department, was on night duty. She had dinner with her colleagues, post-midnight at the hospital seminar hall.
Post-dinner, her colleagues left the seminar hall, leaving her alone when she decided to take a nap. And the next morning, a semi-naked body was discovered with multiple injuries lying on a mattress stained with blood. Night duties are not uncommon. At a stretch, 36 hours of duty, a doctor is going to take 5 minutes rest and he is having such an incident. It's horrendous.
It has to be condemned. Soon after the hospital authorities reported the incident, the Kolkata police began their investigation. The autopsy report revealed that she had been sexually abused. It's a girl who has been raped and murdered in her own safe space, which is not okay. At the crime scene, the police collected evidence, including a Bluetooth headphone, which they found at the crime scene.
The seminar hall didn't have any CCTV cameras. So the police reviewed the footage from the other CCTV cameras in the hospital and made a list of people who could have been involved in the crime. Among the suspects was Sanjay Roy, who was seen entering the building around 4 a.m.

The police called in all the suspects, including Roy, for further questioning. And during the investigation, they took away the mobile phones of all the suspects. After the interrogation, one of the officers decided to check the Bluetooth headphone by trying to pair it with the phones of each suspect.
The headphone connected instantly to Sanjay Roy's phone, which led to his immediate arrest. While checking the CCTV footage, the police also noticed Roy acting suspiciously near the seminar hall where the murder took place. There is no reason for him to be presented at such an order.
Roy was a civic police volunteer. He was assigned to provide support and assistance to lower-ranked police officers who were hospitalized. He used to roam around in a t-shirt with Kolkata Police written on it. And his bike also had a Kolkata Police tag. According to reports, he had been married four times and three of his wives left him due to his misconduct while his fourth wife died of cancer.
The police revealed that he had free access to several departments of the hospital. The police said that Roy had confessed to the crime. At the primary stage of investigation, even further KK Chilona, he was the only one.
These questions will get answered in due course of time. This incident triggered massive protests across the state. Doctors and medical staff from several hospitals in Kolkata raised questions about safety for women in the state. Many protesting doctors held a candle march, chanted slogans and even boycotted duty. The junior doctors at Arjikar Medical College in Kolkata also demanded a judicial investigation, a written apology from the hospital authorities, and compensation for the women's family.
Amid the ongoing protest, The principal of the hospital Dr. Sadeep Ghosh resigned from his post on 11th August 2024, three days after the incident. The reason for this is that I am not being disrespected on social media. My face is being said.
