Ashley Massie's Hair Growth Routine Insights

hi everyone welcome or welcome back to my YouTube channel my name is Ashley Massie and y'all ran up the numbers for my first how to grow long natural hair video so I decided to give you guys a part two I kid you not the proof is in the pudding and by pudding I mean my videos because this was my hair when I first did the video and this is my hair now if you're not following along I don't know what to tell you at this point I am so excited to be doing this video again you have no idea because the growth is crazy this the picture wasn't edited hold on hold on get a in this video I'm going to be showing you my natural hair care routine for how I am growing my hair and we are on the road to waist length hair because that's what I'm trying to achieve comment down your hair goals in the comments below I'm going to be sharing with you some products that I recommend and that I stand by some tips some tricks some encouragement on how you can go about your hair growth Journey I'm sure it's no secret that your hair can grow these used to be bangs Okay now they are no longer bangs I promise I won't keep you for long so without further Ado let's get into the video I wanted to share a quick hair health update on how my hair has been doing and I haven't washed it in about 2 weeks because I've been sick this past week so this is its current state I've been undiagnosed with scalp psoriasis I saw a dermatologist at an influencer event and she told me that it could be that it's been causing a bit of hair loss and discoloration you can see the difference in skin tone and also it's just been really flaky when I try to remove it it comes off like skin almost in these patches as you see here so I really have to see a specialist and see what that's all about but I did pick up this product from the beauty supply store and it's been helping but it stinks really bad as far as hair length my hair has grown so much it's literally it's past my boob it's past my boob and I'm just so happy but she's been growing and current Curr L my hair is very Tangled very naughty it's dry don't let the camera fool you like that shine no my hair was done I also haven't gotten a curly cut in over a year now so don't be like me I really need my ends trimmed I would usually get them trimmed every 4 to 6 months but I haven't scheduled an appointment for this year so I'm very disappointed in myself about that but I definitely need to get that done and right now I'm just prepping my hair to wash as we know I work on one section at a time and we're going to start by fully drenching that section with water making sure that it's fully saturated before going in with design Essentials almond and avocado sulfate free shampoo this was my first time using their shampoo and conditioner but I'm basically applying it to the roots of my hair and eventually throughout my hair I usually like to detangle while I shampoo so I'm using my unbrush to do that I like to start at the bottom and work my way up this is completely optional there's no right or wrong method to how you choose to do your wash days or styling this is just something that I've been doing that's been helping me in my routine and it's just been a game Cher it makes detangling while conditioning much easier and also I like to take my time here this is how much hair that came out after the first round of brushing and then I do brush a second time to make sure I just get all of my knots and tangles out until it runs smoothly through my hair I do want to quickly mention that I do wash my scalp and also the rest of the strands of my hair I am going in for a round two of shampooing here but I know I see people like telling me not to do that just wash your roots but it reminds me of a tweet that I saw years ago it's like if you wash the top half of your body and you don't wash your legs because you just let the soap run off like that's how I feel about washing my hair I'm parting my hair into two more sections and twisting the other half away and I'm using design Essentials almond and avocado leave-in conditioner I'm going to smooth that over my hair before finger raking it through so we are detangling again here but instead just with my fingers and I do take a while here I'm also going to be adding more water because when we think we need more product we actually need more water I learned this from one of my hair stylists a few years ago and I have shared it with y'all but it's been a game changer for me as well and this is how much hair that came out while I was finger detangling and I'm just going to twist that section up and we're going to move on to the next section we're going to be doing the same thing applying the leave-in conditioner finger raking it through twisting it back up and we're just going to repeat the same washing and conditioning process to the other side [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] while my hair are in these twists I like to use the scalp massager that bioio sent me it's literally the best thing ever and if you do these scalp massages regularly you can help promote blood [Music] flow now I'm not going to rinse out the leave-in conditioner but I'm just going to run water over the twists and gently squeeze them out I'll see you in a little bit when it's time to style hair but for now we're going to place a pot of water on the stove to boil we're going to take our fresh Rosemary I got this from my local supermarket and we're just going to place the Rosemary in the pot so it can boil and we're going to let this sit for about 10 minutes after the timer is up and the Rosemary is finish boiling we're just going to set it aside so it can cool down this is very important make sure you let the Rosemary water cool down before pouring it anywhere I'm using this long M spray bottle that I got from Sally Beauty it's very pretty it's very purple well lilac and I'm just going to pour the Rosemary water into the bottle and I also bought this other spray bottle from my local beauty supply store and I'm going to put some Rosemary water in here and later I'm going to show you exactly what I'm using this for now it's time to style hair and this is what my hair looks like after taking it out of its bamboo top will wrap my hair felt very soft and it smelled really good like the scent was very pleasant but it was time to roll up the sleeves and time to get to work you can also see how shiny my hair is working on one section at a time I'm going to unravel that first twist and y'all my hair felt so different I did not know what was going on but I knew that it was all design Essentials and it felt pillow soft like it was super soft but I'm going to use that Rosemary water that we boiled earlier and spray it all over my hair give it a good rub in before twisting my hair we're just going to be doing Simple two strand twist it's my go-to my favorite thing to do and I usually use my fingers to part my hair today we're using Aunt Jackie's Friz Patrol setting mousse to twist and I had to use a little bit more product than usual because my hair was so soft y'all the the product was n really absorbing into my strands well after using more product I eventually got the curl definition that I wanted and everything worked out but I do want to note that I don't usually count how many twists I do nor do I really pay attention to The Parting it's mostly freestyle so I never know how many twists are in my head I usually just go based off a feel of section and I try to make it as equivalent as possible if that makes sense [Music] you [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] up [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] you [Music] n [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] this is how my hair came out after twisting everything and one side is going to be fluffier than the other because it had some time to air dry now I'm going to use my speed style prolex hair dryer from Shark Beauty my name is engraved on it but I love this hair dryer I don't know where it's been all my life but it's so compact so cute and it's very powerful I'm going to dry my hair a little bit as there are benefits to doing so as opposed to air drying and I will list them on the screen for [Music] you one main thing I love about this haird dryer is that it has a scalp Shield mode for scalp protection meaning you can get as close as you want to your scalp without burning your hair and when I can I tell you that this has been everything to me because I am highly afraid of heat on my scalp I kid you not I'd be the first to jump once heat touches my head and once it's lit up blue that's how you know it's on I just have too many trauma stories from the Dominican Salon so this has been a game changer I can quickly dry my roots and when I mean this hair dryer is so powerful my hair is dry within minutes [Music] [Music] [Music] I wanted to show how much hair came out during the shampooing and conditioning process while detangling and this is what my hair looks like on day two it looks very cute very light very fluffy very shiny and now we're going to take our extra Rosemary water bottle that we filled up earlier this nozzle is perfect for spraying directly at the roots and scalp rather than the hair strand so the application is perfect I recommend these two oils to support hair growth and of course Blue Magic Originals this is my childhood right here with the other Rosemary water bottle you can spray it on your hair throughout the week I'd say don't keep the water any longer from 5 days to a week unless you store it in the fridge but that is it the styling process is over this is how my hair turned out we are on day two hair this is the side the back the other side and the front now there is a lot of shrinkage but don't be afraid of shrinkage it means that your hair is healthy if you do want to elongate your curls or stretch out your twist there are methods to do so if you want a video for that please let me know and I'll film it for you another video that's coming is how I maintain my twist during the week I've been getting a lot of questions on how I maintain my twists throughout the week so I definitely want to film that video for you and get it to you real soon because I literally have this hairstyle every week I don't change it and I I don't really take pictures of myself to show you so but 99% of the time my hair is like this of course I have some tips and words of encouragement for you if you are on your journey trying to grow your hair even if you don't want super long hair like me like I'm trying to get to Rapunzel I was about to say Rapunzel floor length but I would like my hair to be right at my waist okay and I'm not going to lie this was my first time using design Essentials shampoo and the leave-in conditioner I thought I gave myself an accidental perm or some type of texture change because my hair was so soft I had trouble parting and I never felt my hair like that before I don't know if it's a pro or if it's a con but my hair was super soft I'm not even exaggerating probably like feather soft only since I used that shampoo and conditioner for the first time in this video my usual go-to is this right here love your curls shampoo and conditioner they are sulfate and silicone free these are almost finished I believe I ran through probably three or four sets of the shampoo conditioner but my curls love it I use it in between wash days and it's just the best I just have to recommend 10 out of 10 like I mentioned in the beginning of this video some hair Health updates for myself I have been undiagnosed with scalp psoriasis mostly where my edges are if you've seen a few of my videos this spot in particular is usually very white and I believe that's when it started to develop because I never always had it I just picked this up from the beauty supply store all I saw was anti- dangrous and I thought it would help me it's been helping me I have no dermatologist I actually have to see a dermatologist so I can know how to properly care for it but it's been helping a lot the only thing is it stinks really bad so if you're a person suffering from scalp psoriasis I'm not going to tell you this is your solution this is just what worked for me and of course whatever works for me I'm going to share because our hair Journeys are trial and error so we can take whatever anyone says with a grain of salt it's really up to you to try it or not but I'm always going to share what's helping me along my journey I'm saying along because this is a never ending thing our hair Journeys are forever continuing forever ongoing it's not going to stop at any point I would consider myself a lazy naturalist meaning if I don't have to do my hair I wouldn't but unfortunately that's not the case and I have to do my hair another thing that I found myself doing is washing my hair at least once a week I'm no longer waiting 2 to 3 weeks to wash my hair and I've seen a huge difference when it comes to the moisturization of my hair my hair hair tends to get dry and I would wait as long as I could to wash my hair to wash and sty my hair and that's because I was just lazy I didn't want to do it but ever since I started washing my hair weekly or I would push it to a week and a half the max I don't wait 2 weeks anymore except for this past week cuz I was sick that that's an exception but my hair has definitely been more hydrated and absorbing water and products better cuz I believe I have low paracity hair so it takes a long time for water and products to penetrate into my hair like water would just sit on top of my hair and it takes a long time for my hair to really you know get a grasp of everything but washing my hair weekly has definitely helped if you've seen a few of my hair videos or if this is your first time watching one of my hair videos I love to use hair Foams to style my hair I just find it easier to work with rather than creams or gels like foam is number one for me and it's usually the only product that I use when it comes to styling I do have a few Foams to recommend for you this was the first foam that I fell in love with it's by Aunt Jackie it's their first Patrol setting mousse that's what I used to do my hair in this video and I showed it earlier this is another one of my favorite Foams mouses it's by Camille Rose it's their spiked honey mousse this mousse smells like breakfast food and I'm a huge breakfast person like it's just so sweet and it leaves your hair smelling so good and the reason why I have so many Foams is because I run through them like it's nothing I just bought this bottle for this video and this is how much product I use the product was at the top yeah I I only use Foams and another good one is by the de or the de I don't know how to pronounce this brand but it's their crazy sexy curl honey all-in-one setting foam it's kind of dirty because you know it gets messy when you style natural hair I didn't clean off the bottle but I literally use this one time and this is where the product is I also have pattern Beauties Crow mousse with me this was gifted to me recently but I've heard nothing but good things about p pattern so that's why I'm recommending it when I mean I hear so many good things I hear so many good things I'm actually excited to try it myself and I definitely will probably next week because I just take these out and I put them back in so yeah I showed you the routine I recommended the products and I just want to say again this is not an overnight process you probably won't see progress a month from now 2 months from now probably month three to four to five it takes a long time the main thing that I always say when it comes to reaching your goals really growing hair is a goal and you just have to find patience patience patience and I also want to be a constant reminder of your journey is your own and no one else's your hair isn't going anywhere unless you trim it cut it or chop it all off so you might as well experiment see what works for your hair and what doesn't yes we know jeans play a role in how fast your hair grows but I did mention this in my first video your hair will eventually grow especially if you leave it alone I feel like that's the main thing you want to do hairstyles that has less tension on the hair so that means avoid updos and just really really tight hairstyles these are perfect because it's not really suffocating the scalp it's very loose as you can see so that's why twists are always my go-to you can do braid outs wash and goes are okay me being the lazy naturalist that I am I usually like to stick to shampooing conditioning styling I don't use any prepoo I'm not saying that prepoo is wrong if you like pre pooing before shampooing do you me extra steps don't need it don't want it and that flow helps me stay consistent as well I would recommend deep conditioning weekly if you're transitioning or you know trying to get your curls back and I would recommend these two one second the product recommendations are over this bioo deep conditioning mask is a product that I stand by I will always vouch for this product it helped revive My Curls when they were heat damaged and this is a deep conditioner that I'm starting to love it's from Fenty hair it's their arer one deep conditioner it smells heavenly and it gets the job done like it's a it's a deep conditioner for real staying consistent is also very important in this process if you want to see results and I just want to mention that I do see the comments that are under my videos saying that their hair has improved so much after watching and following along my hair videos you have no idea how much that means to me and just knowing that I can help you along your hair Journey because I know it's not an easy one and it's nothing that we could do alone really cuz I was struggling when I had little to no help and little to no guidance so knowing that I'm providing that for you just means a lot to me and I will continue to put out hair videos and words of encouragement because it's so important it's so important and just know that you're not alone with figuring out how to love the crown that has been given to you because that's yours you can't I mean yes we're blessed because it's very versatile and we can change it whenever we want but I feel like the real true love starts when you appreciate what you already have have if I can be a help in any type of way along that journey I am just so thankful I guess I'll end the video here if you like this video please leave it with a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel if you're not subscribed already to see more content like this more hair videos more Vlogs more videos about my life I guess because yeah thank you so much for watching and I will definitely see you in my next video bye he
