Understanding the Core of the Gospel

so tonight's class is class 2a understanding God's message there's no greater talk tonight than understanding God's message if we don't understand the gospel if you don't understand it's God's a message if the purpose of apologetics is to bring that person to Jesus but then we say for I don't know what Jesus's message is or I don't know what the gospel is it's very confusing what are we trying to lead people to so what I have in front of you tonight is a little test what I'd like you to do is just take a moment of quiet and look at this test in front of you and imagine that you stood before God tonight was your night and you stood before God and he gave you this test and he said Ken Jacob Matt young Chuck here's a test to enter the kingdom of heaven and what does it require to enter the kingdom of heaven what do you have to do to be saved tonight was your last night and God said you know what do you have to do to enter into the kingdom of God what would you say so look at this chart it could be all of these things it could be none of these things or it could be some of these things we'll take your pen and check off or don't check off the things you have to do to enter the kingdom of God it could be all of these things it could be none of these things or it could be some of these things just take a moment and check through it and we'll see how you do in a moment all of them none of them are some of them okay how'd we do I had a missionary tell me that when she was younger she into the Philippines and she was leading people to Jesus left and right it was an exciting time and what she started noticing what the people that she led to Jesus never really changed and what she realized was that she was asking people to pray the sinner's prayer back when that was really popular leading people to Jesus and she realized the reason why people never change was because all they did was add Jesus or heard Jesus or the concept of the sinner's prayer or Jesus to the pile of false saviors that they were trusting in it wasn't Jesus alone it was Jesus plus it was Jesus and this Jesus and this was a list of idolatries that people were trusting in oh and one more God one more idea to trust in okay and people never change because they were they weren't trusting in the right gospel so the answer to our test tonight if you look at this thing tonight the answer is none of them so I won't go by and look at your manuals obviously but this is a test for yourself to say okay do I understand the gospel do I understand God's message okay is belief in God important yes but book those belief in God alone save you know James 2 says that even demons believe in God and they're so moved by the belief in God that they tremble at it right keeping the commandments that's a big one is keeping the commandments important absolutely but does it save you know why because what's that sure yeah Romans chapter 3 verse 20 teaches that the purpose of the law is to show you your sin it's a knowledge it's a list of what sin is nobody can keep these laws loving God jesus said if you love your neighbor you love God you know how are we doing it loving our neighbor perfectly right helping others being a good person so all these things on this list are good things but they are not good enough does that make sense does anybody have a question about any of these this is an excellent tool actually to give to somebody and slip it right in front of them ask them to take a pen and say check off the things on this list that are necessary to go to heaven and you'll see people check off all these things and what you're seeing is right before your very eyes you're seeing their Savior you're seeing their God you're seeing what they're literally trusting in to be saved I love this quote by JC rile he was a contemporary of Spurgeon and this is what he said it's in your notes here dim or indistinct views of sin us this is a very deep quote when I first read this quote I was so moved by it I literally jumped off my sofa it was so profound dim or indistinct views of sin are the origin of most of the errors heresies and false doctrines of the present day if a man does not realize the dangerous nature of his soul's disease you cannot wonder if he is content with false or imperfect remedies why do we have tons of religions and false religions and beliefs and denominations and ideas out there because there are false remedies out there false saviors false hopes false Gospels why because people have a wrong view of what sin is and they think because my sin is really not that bad then the remedy for my sin could be well just going to church your baptism are trying to be a good person so dim or indistinct views of sin are the origin of the most of the errors heresies false doctrines of the present day if a man does not realize the dangerous nature of his soul's disease you cannot wonder if he is content with false or imperfect remedies when someone realizes how dreadful they are and how great their sin is and what God requires for the penalty of sin how can water wash away sin that's a that's a spiritual thing how can trying to live a good life ever do that so when your notes look at what it says what is the well let meet the me back up for a second me back up for a second then what is the number one apologetic issue that Christians face when you go to Canada okay when you go to Canada most of the cities in Canada are Catholic the majority of religion in America the big cities Chicago New York LA was the number one religion in America Roman Catholic when you go to South America what is the number one religion in South America Roman Catholic okay Roman Catholicism has a works based religion they believe that if you do X wine the zi+ Jesus then you'll get saved when you go into Buddhism it's a worse works based religion when you go to Islam it's a works based religion all religions are works based religions so what is the number one apologetic issue that Christians face this will be worth the price of admission yes this is worth the price of admission what you're going to face in the world is not a theism is not agnosticism is not Buddhism is not Hinduism it's not Islam the number one issue you're going to face where if you're a missionary to Canada or the US or South America or Thailand or to Saudi Arabia they all have one thing in common the basis of all the ideas and false religions and cults and denominations that all have a false say here a false hope is all of them teach that you have to work at saving yourself that is the bottom line and so what is the number one apologetic issue that if you walk away from this course you look what I learned about Islam and Buddhism and atheism no the number one apologetic the issue that you're gonna have to deal with the help people the hurdle the obstacle that gets in the way of understanding why they need Jesus is self-righteousness we all have it we all deal with it we all think that like you know I hope I can be good enough I hope I can please God I hope I can do enough good things you know check the list off keep the commandments go to church baptism we all have our different lists every religion has their different lists and so what we need to understand before we get into anything in this course if the number one apologetic issue is self-righteousness a false gospel a false Savior then we need to know the real thing so that when a counterfeit looms on the horizon we can know it instantaneously we can help people understand the counterfeit I mean I just it just hurts me so deeply when I meet people that their their religion denomination is keep the commandments be baptized you know holiness movements you know trying to be perfect and on and on it goes is that people are trying to save themselves and then when you go with the Islam they're trying to save themselves they're trying to be a good person and so that's the main issue well let's go on therefore if that is the main issue of self righteous if is that if that's the number one apologetic then we have to know what the real thing actually is so if you have your Bibles turn to first Corinthians chapter 15 and verses 3 and 4 and why we do that we're going to listen to the duck commander give a testimony on the gospel let's see how he does okay I'm currently 66 years old that's how long I've been on planet Earth when I was 28 I was sort of into sex drugs and rock and roll as they say so at 28 some guy with the Bible came in a beer joint that I was running and he wanted to talk it over so I basically ran him out of the place my sister is the one that brought him and while he was in the back trying to get a Bible study going with the old guy here yours truly my sister's was up on the front and she's handing out Bible tracts so that created a little bit of a ruckus in the beer joint so I had to go out there and tell everybody look the girl wants to hand out Bible tracts take them filming the trash can do what everyone but don't be messing with my sister here I'll break your legs so I ran the guy off but later on I looked him back up when my life was pretty well going south in a hurry so at 28 I finally sit down and listen for the first time in my life to the story about Jesus of Galilee the one we're all counting time by it is currently 2013 years since Jesus got here 2013 ad and oh do me now so we're all counting time by Jesus I just decided to follow him 38 years ago when I heard that he in fact was God in flesh not only was he God in flesh it took the blood of God to remove my sex drugs and rock and roll style sin that's the price well I'm sitting there listening that I thought man that was a mighty kind thing to do for us gun bag like me not only that it really would do no good to have my sins removed which are many it wouldn't do me any good though if something could not be done about the six-foot hole I'm going into and you too by the way so we're all sinners Jesus dies on a cross to remove all of them so you can go I'm guilty no longer the price has been paid God coming down in flesh did that it's actually too wild a story to dream up by human beings especially sinful ones three days later he guarantees me not only did he have the power to remove my sin but he had the power to energize dead cold flesh so it can stand back up on the earth again because of what Jesus has done his death on a cross and his resurrection he's guarantee you that you will live so as Jesus would put it whoever lives and believes in Me will never die if you're not a believer and you don't believe God exists at all about the only hope you have is he'd not be there that's your hope maybe he's not there what we're saying is we trust that he is all right well if he had to give you your personal testimony on a camera for three minutes that's not too bad is it not too bad he got talked about who Jesus was he talked about his own sin that he wasn't good enough that he needed a savior in Christ paid for his debt on the cross and rose from the dead it's pretty good pretty good so tonight if the number one apologetic issue is most people think they're okay they're good enough as he used to say in Boston they're all set I'm all set I'm cool I'm all set everyone's all set right so the gospel is the antidote to the deepest need of the human heart which is that people are not ready to meet God and they've been given a false remedy because they think they're not that bad of a person so the false remedy seems okay to them Oh walk around the box in Mecca get baptized you know throw water on yourself kneel go to ability people have all kinds of these false remedies that they feel secure in and the gospel comes along and challenges that and it's God's message to bring people to Christ and so the number one thing in the apologetic issue is we have to know the gospel we have to understand God's message so if I were to ask you what is the longest treaty in the Bible on what is the gospel what would you say no no not the longest treaty what is the longest explanation if you know this part of the Bible you will not be fooled correct what chapters one through five if you master Romans one through five you have you have you have downloaded God's longest treaty on what is the gospel Romans 1 through 5 if you want a very since int definition to the point bullet point idea of what is the gospel then you go to first Corinthians 15 verses 3 through 4 so in 1st Corinthians 15 verses 3 through 4 that's what we're going to be at tonight now we're going to go look at why this is so important is that he's writing to the church in first Corinthians 15 this is what he says I look at verse 1 first Corinthians 15 verse 1 now I would remind you brothers of the gospel I preached to you which you received by which you take your stand and by the way the word gospel means what good news the reason why there is good news is because there's bad news okay verse 2 and by which you are being saved so what does verse 2 say this good news is the message by which we are saved okay if you hold fast to the word I preached you unless you believed in vain meaning that there are many people that were the gospel sounds good to them and over time they run to a false remedy they run to a false religion or false denomination and they abandon the gospel it's the only hope of salvation in a verse 3 says for I delivered to you as a first important which I also received that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures that he was buried and that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scripture so tonight we're gonna talk about what is this message by which this good news by which we are saved okay so the first word we see and what is the gospel is the word Christ you can have Buddhism without Buddha the Buddha can run away fly away and you still have the teachings of the Buddha and the teachings of the Buddha matter you can still have Islam without Muhammad because the teachings of the Quran are still valid and true you cannot have Christianity without Christ he is the central figure to it all so the very first thing you learn the gospel by which we are saved is that it introduces not a religion but a person the first person the first idea you have to deal with is who is Christ who is Christ because you can't have Christianity without Christ why because Jesus claimed to be God he claimed to be the savior whoever calls the name O Lord shall be saved he is the key he is the doorway he is life he is bread he is everything you cannot Christianity without Christ and so recently I was with a bunch of missionaries and someone said do you have to believe that Jesus is God to be saved yes he is the central figure to the gospel it begins with Jesus the Christ okay it's not a swear word by the way okay the word Christ is from from the idea of a messiah it's it's the idea of Anointed One and when you read the Old Testament you have this idea that when Kings would get ordained they would pour oil on these Kings like Samuel and David they would pour oil on these kings and and they would anoint them with oil and the oil representing the Holy Spirit it was it was idea that you are special you are set apart God has chosen you you're you're Israel's King you are you are an anointed king so this Christ was not going to be a human king from a mother and father this was going to be a Christ a king a messiah figure who's going to be a heavenly king that was going to come from the outside to be the rescuer for Israel for the world the word Christ is the idea of a king our heavenly king the word Jesus means Savior Christ is the idea of king okay and if he's a heavenly king that means it's not earthly king if he's a heavenly king anything that comes from heaven is what pure it perfect and good who can ascend to the hill of the Lord he who has clean hands and a pure heart right the moment Jesus becomes becomes a sinful Savior he can no longer be my Savior because he has to be saved from his own sins that's why it just it just blew my mind when I was a missionary in Boston for 15 years when I would talk to these precious Catholic people and I would ask them I say the man that you confessed your sins to do you think he's ever sinned and they had a hard time with that right because how can a man who is also a sinner have the authority that can forgive me of my sins when he has his own sins to deal with so we need a sinless Savior and only sinless save would be somebody from heaven and that's why it uses the idea of a Christ a heavenly King coming from the outside the second word we see in the gospel that saves us is that Christ died and that's a profound thought why in the world would this heavenly perfect sinless king die because last time I checked the wages of sin is death because bad things happen to bad people because people deserve it wengie when God said the day the e of this tree you will surely die he didn't mean you died a ripe old age in your sleep at 80 he just said if you eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall surely die the wages of sin is death we know why people die we know why things die every day we live as a grace this undeserved it's not we're not worthy of it okay so if this heavenly King Messiah is dying if it's God God's justice as being satisfied here God's anger at sin is being taken out but it's being taken out on Christ why is Christ dying why is Christ dying we have to go on to the next idea for Christ died and then use a preposition for and when you look this little preposition word up in the Greek the word for literally means in place of isn't it amazing how one little word preposition can mean so much so we have a heavenly King dying not for his transgressions what we learn is that now this heavenly perfect king is dying for the substitution or in place of something or someone else right in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve sinned the first the first death we see is God killing an animal in the Garden of Eden and God taking the skins of the animal and clothing Adam in these nakedness with the skins and you say what's the deal with that well now and even walking around with these nasty skins on them and it's that forever reminder that something had to die for them that they brought death into the world but it wasn't their death they're still living and breathing that something else took their punishment away from them we see the gospel right away in the Garden of Eden but an animal I mean that can't really take away universal sin but could a heavenly divine king who has no sin who's God himself had the ability and the power to absorb more than one person since many sends millions of sins if he is God he can Christ died for our sins you notice that it's not singular it's plural there's a story of a true story of a man that I was on the bus and he was talking to this lady and at the end of conversation you know he thought wow this lady really knows really knows Jesus at the end of the conversation she stood up and said this Christ has done his 99% we have to do our 1% no because of Christ pays for covers my sin with his blood if he pays for my debt 99 percent and those last five to ten days of my life that one percent is left uncovered right that one percent is on me and I have to pay for it so when Jesus is paying for the sins of others the lives of stuff to love to rebuilding the idolatry right so Aaron Wentz is not sinless I might sin less praise the Lord I do sin I think less I do sin less than what I did went before I knew the Lord but as Aaron went sinless no live stuff lust rebellion dollar tree those are all things that Christians are faced with all the time so we need to save yesterday we need a savior today we need a savior tomorrow we need a savior who would pay for a remove sins past present and even what future so Jesus this heavenly King is paying for so you can you see what's happening here when someone does not understand the gospel and they hear a false message every religion every denomination every person is saying I've got to put in my 1% I've got to put in my 5% and they're gonna hand God their report card all their good deeds on Judgment Day and they're gonna hand the holy perfect king the report card and we know what's gonna happen when when they hand their dirty flawed report card to a perfect God don't we it's gonna be game over it's not gonna be good enough but if somebody perfect absorbs my consequences past present and future so that I could be totally guilt free that's called good news that's called the gospel that's good news I have a friend of mine that got saved by someone door knocking door knocking she'd never heard the gospel before someone knocked on her door told the gospel and she heard the gospel the first thing that came into her mind was that sounds like good news to me that's exactly what it supposed to sound like to people who are trying to do it by self effort that Christ died for in place of our sins look at this next phrase according to the scriptures isn't this brilliant according to the scriptures what is that all about what was the last time you heard someone say well that's your opinion right well that's your opinion this is so brilliant Christ died in our place on behalf of us for our sins past present future according to the scripture that means that the authority is not you according to the scriptures now you have to remember that first Corinthians and Galatians were one of the first New Testament books written possibly even before the Gospels so when Paul is writing here in about 53 55 ad it's about 20 years post cross so Christianity now has been around for about 20 years 23 years and he's writing what is the central core belief of the church so when people say oh they made up Christianity they made up who Jesus is they deified Jesus hundreds of years later no we have a record 20 years after the resurrection that Paul is writing about what is the central core message of the church by which we are saved by which we take our stand that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures so when he's talking about the scripture as the scriptures New Testament hadn't been written yet so he's probably referring to things like Isaiah 53 in Old Testament standards okay that he was buried now why the world would that be included isn't just good enough to say he died for our sins and it will by the way I'm trying to use my words carefully here I highly dislike it when people say things like Jesus died isn't that great and I'm just going no lots of people die it's not a good thing that's a bad thing so the gospel is not Jesus died isn't that great the gospel is Jesus died for our sins if you don't include the substitutionary atonement of Jesus in the gospel it's not the gospel because death is not a good thing but if it's first somebody else for their benefit maybe that he was very what's that all about well I'll give you an example there was a famous apologist that was at a university and this young whippersnapper of a student came up to the microphone and stood up to the mic in front of hundreds of students and said oK you've talked about the resurrection of Jesus tonight how do you how do you know sir talking to the apologist how do you know that I'm not Jesus and I didn't rise from the dead and the apologist leaned into his microphone and goes I'd want to know first that you died right what's the idea that was funny by the way what's the idea of the burials it's its idea that he really died it was really finished it was really game over right the burial is saying game over right guess how many the devil loves the spin well maybe he didn't really die I mean they took him off the cross and they resuscitated him okay the burial is like no game over done over capiche okay that he was buried that he really died that he was raised on the third day if you leave Jesus dead in the grave it's not the gospel right because the number one killer is coming at you and I like a freight train nobody wants to die it's amazing to watch cancer patients fight and fight and fight for life because the will to live is the strongest will that we all have nobody wants to die so if we preach a gospel that says Jesus died isn't that great no she just died for our sins better but Jesus died for our sins according to the scripture the authorities not you it's not on me it's the Word of God it's the Bible that's the authority that says so not take it or leave it but it gets even better because he didn't stay dead that he was raised on the third day what is that saying that's saying that there's somebody that you know that's greater than your worst enemy death does this sound like this could preach does this sound like the world needs to hear this message right so what's the big deal with the resurrection of Jesus well first of all the first bullet point is the idea that God validated jesus's life and message okay think about it imagine if God the Father resurrected Joseph Smith right Joseph Smith is a founder of Mormonism he has misled millions of people brought in a false gospel a false message to false Savior imagine if God resurrected Joseph Smith whoa Joseph Smith is the man God must really love Joseph Smith Joseph Smith is the dude man what if God resurrected Muhammad whoa God it must be God must think really highly of Muhammad right what was Jesus's central message what Jesus talk about the most in his ministry it wasn't heaven wasn't hell wasn't money wasn't the kingdom the one thing that Jesus talked about the most was who he was and who his father was you better get God right on Judgment Day or you're trusting in a false Savior a false God so Jesus is God so if the father raises Jesus from the dead what is he saying the father is saying to the son this is my son and I endorse his message it's absolutely true whoever the father resurrects and endorses he is endorsing him in his message so if Jesus was a false God a full savior and gave a false gospel especially who he said he was and who his father was God himself was validating a lie so the resurrection was the father validating the entire life and message of Jesus Christ going back to the idea of who Christ really was right Jesus is sinless and therefore God right bad news people die why because the wages of sin is death so if Jesus was a sinner he'd still be dead because that's his punishment so when the Jesus rose from the dead it was saying his punishment and his death was undeserved it was not for him it was for some someone else Jesus showed that he had power over death right that's why whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life why is that so important because we have to put our hope and trust in the one who has more power than our greatest enemy which is death and don't forget this very simple truth when Jesus I love talking to college students hey you believe in life after death and they say yeah I think so most people do by the way but then if you ask them if there's any evidence for life after death most people say evidence no and I say hey if I give you some evidence in 20 seconds would you listen to me and they all say sure I say here we go 20 seconds here we go so the guy named G's he came from heaven with a saloon still alive died across a frozen dead if that story is true that he rose from the dead that's evidence of life after death so Christianity is an evidence based faith it's not faith in faith or just believe we believe because we have evidence to back up our faith that Jesus Christ rose from the dead can I get an amen okay I know you're out there okay check out this video tell me how he does up in Nathan can I ask you something yeah wassup do you really feel like it messed up your childhood not having a dad more than you know I struggled with who I was trying to prove myself almost got in the game you know her father just deal with they're supposed to do half of the jump that we face on the streets what exists why you worried about it you nervous about being a father one day hardly I'm one we got a kid a little girl she's four now I was playing ball in college hooked up with a cheerleader I told her to take care of it she didn't do it so I got mad and left her to deal with herself you know she lose 30 minutes away now I can't bring myself to go see her she marry No I just never really loved her you know and then hearing you guys talk about how father's walking out mess with the kids and then seeing this stuff I'm gonna be one of those guys David part of being a man is about taking responsibility any fool can have a child I'm just tired of feeling guilty and you break it to you this way you arguing listen one day you me and every one of us are gonna have to stand before God and he's gonna do what good judges do [Music] well then I hope my good outweighs my bad Nathan that's not the way it works you know that let me put it this way who's the person you're closest to problem a mom okay suppose she was brutally attacked and murdered in a parking lot the guy was caught and put on trial but he says hey judge I come into this crime but I've done a lot of good in my life if the judge let him go free would you say he was a good judge or a bad judge a bad one that's right because the Bible says that God is a good judge and he will punish the guilty not for what they did right but for what they did wrong because he loved us he sent His Son Jesus Christ to take the punishment that we deserve and put it on himself and that's why he died on a cross but only applies if you accept that's why I asked for his forgiveness I asked him to save me and I'm a new man because of Christ you understand what I'm telling you [Music] there was orange back [Music] nothing [Music] courageous yeah yeah a good movie all right so lots of good in there his response was you know I'm a good person and he gave it was a pretty real to live conversation we don't want to be legalistic heresy hunters you know and be like all screwed young people but if you're gonna if you're gonna make a multi multi-million dollar movie and write scripts and go what do you guys think what do you guys think what do you guys think good good good no not good okay and you're writing script and you've had time to think it out pretty good but anything he missed yes he forgot the resurrection just heartbreaking you wrote scripts and you forgot the resurrection just remember you can't leave Jesus dead and have a good news whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved but he's dead you can't really help me just just a little tip for you alright so what is the gospel in three seconds as we close tonight the gospel in three seconds if you had to give the gospel in three seconds what is it we broke the law Jesus paid the fine and rose from the dead I stole this from Ray Comfort but he forgot the resurrection so I added it we broke the law Jesus paid the fine but rose from the dead that's the gospel in 3 min you can out three seconds you guys can all do that alright so this is worth the price of admission as well this is a question you need to ask yourself your mom and dad brother your sister your dog your hamster your neighbor your friend this is the question of questions I had a graduate of the course and I asked her so what's the best question to ask somebody to see if they understand the gospel and she was like I can't remember this is the best question tattoo it on your forehead this is good stuff because this one question because jesus said I'll go out of the mouth the heart speaks right someone someone says well we can't really know what's in people's hearts there's a Greek word for that I've taught you it baloney right all right well we don't know what's in people's hearts baloney Jesus said out of the heart the mouth speaks right so when people talk you're they're revealing what's in their heart okay so if you ask someone hey you know if you die today and yes take me for God and he were to ask you why should I let you into heaven what would you say and they give you their answer they're revealing their heart they're revealing what they are trusting in so the number one thing that people will say the number one apologetic issue is that most people will proclaim their own what their own righteousness or own goodness their own self-effort they are putting their trust in what they do they're handing their report card to God and saying God isn't this good enough and because God is a perfect God and a holy God he demands perfection and our perfection is not good enough right so the best question that I ask someone is like hey you know I was just curious do you think you're good enough to go to heaven that's a great question a really really good question you don't have to be a scholar you have to be an evangelist but everybody can know good tools good questions to ask people and you already know what they're gonna say I mean even skeptics and atheists they're gonna proclaim their own goodness what are they trying to do you're like I don't need God I can do it myself everyone everyone has to hold that's the bottom line for everybody do you think you're good enough to go to heaven that is that that is the number one question so so if you ask somebody that question in the church and they do this well I don't know dad that's really bad if someone says yes that's even worse if someone to ask you are you good enough to go to heaven the answer's no absolutely not are you kidding me if you were to download my thought life for the last 40 some years on this screen I'd never see you again you never you never want to show your thought you got the point right we're sinners through-and-through okay so we know we're not good enough to go to heaven last point that tonight take your Bible and go to Galatians chapter 2 verse 21 Galatians chapter 2 verse 21 the the cousin to the book of Romans is the book of Galatians because Galatians also deals with how can a man be justified before God that's a great question how can a man be justified before God Galatians deals with that so there's Romans but Romans gives a longer version of it okay so Galatians chapter 2 and verse 20 I have asked this question I don't know maybe I know hundreds but I've a lot I've asked this question a lots of people and I have seen God you say something to somebody and the lights turn on you can see it this is a light turn on question okay Galatians chapter 2 verse 21 reading from the ESV this is what it says see if we let's see if we can paraphrase this tonight before we break I do not nullify the grace of God how would you know if I the grace of God for of justification were through the law then Christ died for no purpose some people said some versions say in vain right Christ died in vain how do you set aside the grace of God how do you make the grace of God vain how do you how do you say all Jesus's death was unnecessary well you say well I can I'm a good person I try to keep the command which I try to be a good person I God knows my heart God knows I try I mean doesn't God you know you've heard it alright so how would you how would you paraphrase this verse I do not nullify the grace of God for justification with law then Christ died in vain or no purpose how would you how would you paraphrase that verse if you could be good enough to go to heaven then why did Jesus have to die for your sins I have seen the lights turn on people who are in their hearts in their minds trusting in their religion trusted in their self righteous of trusting in that they're trying to do a good job and then moment you say that you're paraphrasing Galatians 2 21 and you can see the lights turn on for people because they're going yeah that doesn't make any sense why would Jesus have to die for my sins if I'm good so here's your here's your option either you're a good person and you don't need anybody to die for you right why would Jesus died for your sins if you're a good person so either you're good and you don't need Jesus check you don't need Jesus or you can admit you're sinner you're a lawbreaker and that you need a Savior it's that simple so what's the number-one apologetic issue in the world wherever you go is man's what that's right and we know the antidote to that which is the gospel okay
