Replacing the Knock Sensor on Dodge Ram
Location of Knock Sensors
Located on both passenger and driver's sides of the engine.
For 5.7-liter engine, they are in the same spot on either side of the engine block.
Accessing the Passenger Side Knock Sensor
Access through the passenger side wheel well area.
Located just below the passenger side exhaust manifold.
Connector with two tabs: pinch these to release it.
Tools Needed
13-millimeter socket
Removing the Knock Sensor
Pinch the two tabs on the connector to release it.
Use a 13mm socket to loosen the bolt holding the knock sensor.
Remove the sensor.
Installing the Knock Sensor
Line up the new knock sensor and start threading the bolt by hand.
Snug down the bolt.
Torque the bolt to 15 foot-pounds (critical step).
Reconnect the connector until it snaps into place.
Important Notes
Correct torque (15 foot-pounds) is crucial. Over/under torquing can cause a check engine light and drivability issues.
