big lizards are well big and amazing and they make great pets well some of them do so what the heck is this thing and what are the four other greatest big lizard pets you could possibly own today we're going to talk all about it my name's Adam this is Doug you're watching wiccans Wicked reptiles stick around so we're doing a whole video about Doug and why I have Doug and what Doug is and if you've been watching the channel you know that i' never wanted one but anyway here he is and he is a handful but boy do I love this guy okay Doug let's chill a bit okay and I think we might as well just start off with number five which is Iguanas now I guess I'll say first there's several species of iguanas not all them make good pets and in fact green iguanas make some of the worst pet reptiles that you could possibly own but I think that there are he's very tickly with his giant legs and the claws that are attached to them either way there's a lot of iguana species that make much better pets what are you doing Doug ow you're not okay there's this is why I do the videos with diamond by the way anyway I think that rock iguanas Rhino iguanas so the cyclura family are much better most of the time but I think that if you wanted a big lizard iguanas green iguanas could make good pets if you know what you're doing now I'm lucky that this was a rescue situation where Doug had a great temperament right off the bat now of course keep in mind iguanas can switch when they become around 3 years old as males they go through an iguana puberty so you have to watch out for things like that I think that rock iguanas and Rhino iguanas are much better options and they're freaking huge these things get he didn't try to bite me he tried to lick me but I'm just not used to it okay all right Doug anyway Rock and ruanas can get four or five feet just like Doug the Green Iguana can get four or five feet this is too big of a lizard for most people especially since Doug is a green iguana which means he's also semi-arboreal what was that okay we tried this is not Doug this is Frankie who's a Fiji banded iguana it doesn't really fit into the large iguana family and if you're American you can't have them anyway but the point being I can't have Rhino or Rock iguanas here in Canada you guys in America can't have Fuji baned iguanas I think we're even okay rock and Rhino iguanas I think they're puppy dog tame if you work with them when they're young anyway I think they're amazing because all iguanas that I know of are either mostly or all the way herbivores what I mean is Frankie is technically an herbivore but he's going to eat things like crickets if you throw him into his enclosure or one finds his way into his enclosure I don't know if you can see but my entire arm is scratched all the heck because well they have huge giant claws they're very strong and of course they will whip that tail at you if they feel threatened the green iguanas Rhino and rock iguanas are in my opinion much better pets and of course they're not as beautiful or vibrantly colored as something like a Fiji banded Rock iguanas are big they're Placid just overall amazing animals all right now that we've have some semblance of order let's talk about number four and we're talking about tus tus and I'm talking about mostly Argentine Black and Whites which in my opinion are the best teu as a pet they're generally the most calm teu I think red tus are really great as well but in my experience and from what I understand from teu breeders and experts it's generally the Argentine Black and Whites that are the Crown Jewel in terms of what are the better pets or the best pets I have one she's small she just keeps going into brumation that's a whole different story we're going to talk about it in the reptile room tour which is coming if you want let me know in the comment section if you want to see reptile room tour either way this is Mushu she's growing slow which is fine but she's going to get big like look at this one here these these things are as big as my little dog fluty okay my little pomeranian these things can be 10 lb they can be 4 4 and 1/2 ft they can be really really big animals now males are going to be bigger than females and they're going to need a big enclosure so the enclosures you see down here that are 8 ft long I bought one of those for Mushu she's not ready for it yet but I did what you should do and I bought the enclosure before I bought the animal so you want to be ready for these animals to be in their full-time enclosures and have that full time enclosure ready the reason that I think that they're better than a lot of other animals or big lizards anyway is just simply because you can tame them out pretty easy they aren't as much of a threat let's say as other reptiles of hurting you your kids whoever you know shows up at your house to look at your cool dog lizard they're beautiful animals they're super smart when you take them outside they interact with the UVB it just it's different they're just so smart so different they're from South America I would love to see one of these in the wild and I'll tell you what their claws are razor sharp speaking of razor sharp I want to say thanks to today's sponsor Hensen shaving I truly use Henson and I'm not joking I bought a Hensen razor several months ago after being fed up with subscription Services disposable razors and even after using a regular safety razor for literal years there's nothing that is even close to Henson I shave my head every day no cartridge razor has ever been as comfortable for me is using a safety razor the problem with most safety razors is the edges of the blade hang off of the razor and they hang off too far which leaves to vibration they're not supported and therefore you get Nicks and cuts Hensen shaving is a family-owned Aerospace parts manufacturer that has made parts for the International Space Station the Mars rover and now they're bringing their engineering to your shaving experience so what does that mean for you that means that that blade that I was talking about is supported Since switching to Henson I've not had Nicks or cuts on my head or my face and that's because they use an aerospace grade CNC machine Henson makes metal razors that extend just 0.0013 in that's less than the thickness of a human hair my other gripe with a lot of the other brands is they don't have a channel big enough for the hair to be evacuated Henson does these channels are much larger than what I'm used to and therefore they don't get clogged up I don't have to literally disassemble this razor every two strokes because there's so much hair getting clogged that it's not working anymore you can purchase 100 razors like this and it will literally last few years I looked the last time I bought razor blades for my safety razor was 2021 and what do these cost you 12 bucks 13 bucks and you don't even need to use the Hensen ones it's not proprietary at all they are in the business of making the best razor not the best razor business do yourself a favor buy this if you shave your face your head any part of your body buy this until telling you I stand behind it I was a customer before I was sponsored visit Hensen shaving tocom wwr to pick up the razor for you and use code wwr and you'll get 2 years worth of blades for free with your razor just make sure that you add them to your card that's 100 free blades when you head to Hensen shaving docomo razor sharp claws and teeth but generally won't use them on you sain dragons sain dragons are in my opinion the coolest looking most like a dinosaur reptile that's out there they have those amazing Sals and there are definitely more than one species right they're all over southeast Asia the Philippine saale Dragon they're hydrosaurus by the way that's their Latin name basically what that means well to me Hydra water sorus dinosaur it's a water dinosaur obviously that's not what it actually means but isn't that kind of cool to think about I've never seen these in the wild but I have seen them at a zoo in in Bali Indonesia and they are spectacular they love it hot they love it humid so much in fact when I was trying to film this b-roll the reason it looks a little bit washed out is because there was so much humidity in the air it fogged up the inside of my lens the problem is they need a bigger enclosure even than a tagu now they're not going to get quite as big we're talking 3 3 and 1/2 ft and they have that long giant tail but they need height because they're semi-arboreal and they're semi-aquatic if you want to have a pair of these you probably need something that's I don't know 8X 8X 6et tall or maybe taller depending on the height of your ceilings just because you need a lot of room for them to have water where they can actually swim in rather than just soak in now they're omnivores so they're going to need 50% plants 50% animals basically and generally what you're going to feed them is maybe small mice or things like that and then bugs right so roaches crickets things like that and then you're going to give them leafy greens this is not a care guide by any means I'm I'm not an expert on S and Dragons I'd love to have them but just where am I going to put them you know but they are amazing climbers they're amazing swimmers they're so much fun to watch interact with each other do your research again don't just start throwing hydrosaurus in with each other but either way they're one of the coolest things in the world a bucket list species for anybody and another bucket list species coming at number two for me anyway Cayman lizards now Cayman lizards are some of the coolest animals in the world okay they have that bright head with its different like a green body bright orange head these things have giant crushing Jaws but they're unlikely to use them on you now these animals that are from places like Peru Bolivia Colombia Ecuador that part of uh South America these guys are going to eat things like Crustaceans and even Turtles and uh things that have shells like snails in the wild right so obviously you're not going to feed them turtles in captivity but you are going to feed them things like crustations you're going to feed them things like snails obviously get them captive don't go in your garden and get snails you don't know what pesticides or whatever they have in them right but these animals are amazing they have that forked tongue big heads those eyes that move around but close like dinosaur eyes I mean when we think about Tyrannosaurus racks right we think this shape of head we think these scales the reason they're called Cayman lizards is cuz look at the crocodiles type scales on their back these are armored beautiful magnificent creatures and a creature that basically everybody who loves reptiles would love to have the problem is again they can climb and they need room to swim this isn't an animal that you can just have an an 8x4 enclosure without tons and tons of area for it to climb without tons and tons of area for it to swim so uh basically everything I said for the San dragons besides the diet very similar with the Cayman lizard they like it warm they like it humid they need lots of room to move around to climb to swim that Di it is in my opinion very specialized but I don't think they're impossible which is why they're on the list are they the best no are they amazing yes would everybody want to keep them if they could well of course but don't just rush into it this is a very specialized animal and you have to be a specialized keeper with a specialized environment in order to keep them happy and healthy and number one this is pretty obvious we're talking about monitors now there's some monitors that are I mean obviously we're not talking about pbar rock monitors or Aki monitor although ACU monitors are amazing we're talking about things like I don't know well not Koto dragons cuz they're not good pets uh now they're are croc monitors for the most part but they're really big but how about Asian water monitors okay Asian water monitors are really great as pads I mean even things like lace monitors can be great pets too the reason that you'd want say a lace monitor as opposed to an Asian water monitor although the price tag is very different and the car is very different is Asian water monitors although a 6ot lizard sometimes really really big I mean look at the size compared to me this is a wild one so in captivity they can get even bigger a lace monitor is not going to need lots of room to swim an Asian water monitor is so you want to make sure that you give them that area and that's the problem with keeping them for most people now Camp Kennon does an amazing job he's got a whole Pond for Slinky his Asian water monitor but most of us can't do this and that's a problem most of us don't have room to have a pond for the Asian water monitor and I don't really necessarily agree with keeping them in small boxes where they don't have that it's a water monitor and you're not going to give them water what's the point I think these are for people who are specialized who have lots and lots of room who maybe make this a feature in their house like a whole wall basically and I've seen that and that's amazing and in my opinion that's the way these animals should be kept they're beautiful they eat fish and rodents and all sorts of different stuff they're carnivores uh Asian water monitors are anyway most monitors are and just overall there's lots of great options but these are for specialized Keepers so there you go what do you think let me know in the comment section below what you think the best big lizards are you
