Leadership Styles in Harry Potter

[Music] harry potter does not only explore a story about friendship in a world with magic dragons three-headed dogs and talking hats it also explores many other topics and if you look at the protagonists harry potter and the antagonist voldemort they are great examples for us to understand how transformational and transactional leaders are let's start with harry potter also known as you're the boy who lived at a young age he was already a symbol of hope for many and as he grew up he became an inspiration for others to fight against the enemy voldemort this is the key understanding for transformational leaders they act as a robot they encourage inspire and motivate members to innovate and create change that will help grow their organization in this scene many were reluctant to join the army against voldemort but watch what harry says when others tried to persuade the rest to join by telling them of harry's success and last year he really did fight off you know who in the flesh look it all sounds great when you say it like that but the truth is most of that was just luck i didn't know what i was doing half the time i nearly always had help it's just being modest hermione i'm not facing this stuff in real life is not like school in school if you make a mistake you can just try again tomorrow but out there when you're a second away from being murdered or watching a friend die right before your eyes you don't know what that's like in less than two minutes harry has inspired and motivated others to join not by ensuring them success or promising their rewards but by moving them to fight for change in other words he may not shift the attitude of thinking just about what is good for myself to a mindset where it's what is good for us and how can we work together for a common good which is to defeat voldemort another key characteristic of a transformational leader is that they do not micromanage instead they trust and believe in their members to take authority over their jobs it is a manageable style that's designed to give members more room to be creative and to think outside of the box in this scene whenever a timid boy is having troubles with casting a spell watch what harry does and the outcome of it [Music] i'm hopeless you're you're just flourishing your one too much try it like this expelliarmus instead of critiquing every move of devil or watching him closely he shows him once and trusts that he works on it and he does well done in return members with transformational leaders will also be prepared to become their own leaders themselves which did happen to devil as in the end he became braver and he took a stand yeah we lost harry tonight he's still with us in here they didn't die in vain but you will because you're wrong harry's heart did beat for us for all of us voldemort my past present and future transactional leaders are almost completely opposite from transformational leaders voldemort or also known as he who must not be named built a strong reputation has caused many to respect him out of admiration and fear note that this does not mean this leadership type is evil or bad in fact there are many advantages to it which was why voldemort managed to succeed in every part of his plan to conquer the wizarding and muggle world up until the last moment transactional leaders lead with this concept of i give you something you give me something like in its name it is a transaction this means when their members are successful they are rewarded when they fail they are punished in this seat when word tell a follower of voldemort succeed in bringing voldemort into flesh into a body he was rewarded with a brand new shiny hat i returned out of fear not loyalty still you have proved yourself useful these past few months thank you voldemort did not care that will tell came back for him because of fear and not loyalty the only thing that mattered to him was that wormtale succeeded therefore he was rewarded in another scene draco a follower of voldemort has been given the job to kill dumbledore a leader of the army against voldemort watch what draco says when dumbledore tells him he has a choice please let me help you i don't want your help don't you understand i have to do this i have to kill you he's gonna kill me draco knows if he fails to kill dumbledore he will be punished by voldemort another thing about transactional leaders is that their members are not given the choice on whether they want to do a job or even asked about their opinions or ideas they are usually told what to do by the transactional leaders because those leaders already have a clear planned out goal in this scene lucius tries to give his opinion to follow seek the boy yourself i do not need to seek the boy before the night is out he will come to me do you understand lucius is immediately rejected
