VEX IQ Robotics Competition 2024-2025: Rapid Relay

Overview

  • Competition features the game Rapid Relay.
  • Field dimensions: 6 feet by 8 feet.
  • Field components: Wall, Pickup Zone, Load Zone.
  • Wall contains 4 Targets, each with a Switch in the center.
  • Game objects: Plush Balls, approximately 150 mm (just under 6 inches) in diameter.

Game Setup

  • Each robot has 1 Preload Ball (total of 2 at start).
  • A third Ball stays out of play initially.

Gameplay Mechanics

  • Objective: Score Goals by launching Balls through Targets.
  • Points:
    • Each Goal: 1 point.
    • Clearing a Switch: 1 additional point per cleared Switch.
  • Scored Balls land in the Pickup Zone, retrieved by the Loader.
  • Up to 2 Balls can be in play at once.
  • Loaders can introduce a third Ball via the Loading Station, which randomly sends it to the Load Zone.

Scoring System

  • Points for passing the Ball to an Alliance Partner:
    • 1 Switch cleared: 4 points per pass.
    • 2 Switches cleared: 8 points per pass.
    • 3 Switches cleared: 10 points per pass.
    • 4 Switches cleared: 12 points per pass.

Rapid Load Period

  • Last 15 seconds of the Match.
  • Loaders can introduce Balls into any legal robot Starting Zone.
  • Balls loaded this way are not eligible for passing.

Robot Size Restrictions

  • Robots must begin the Match fully contained in one of the two Starting Zones (23 inches wide by 6 feet long).

Competition Formats

  1. Teamwork Challenge Matches:

    • 60 seconds collaboration between two teams.
    • Each team consists of 2 Drivers, 1 robot, 1 Loader.
    • One Driver operates the robot for the first half, the other for the second half.
    • Loader operates throughout the full Match.
  2. Driving Skills Challenge Matches:

    • 60 seconds of Driver-controlled time to score points.
  3. Autonomous Coding Skills Challenge Matches:

    • 60 seconds of autonomous robot operation; no Drivers allowed.
