[Music] hello and welcome to the channel today we are going to taste global street food from all around the world the question is can our normals who have probably never tasted this particular dish before work out where it's from well we can do this we've got this yeah we can do this dish number one is under clutch number one please i will oh this is exciting is it filled that is empty you know but we don't that looks like a hot mess and i'm here for it now we should stress that the original version of this would be in a slightly different bread so don't be led too much by the large pitta style bread it would typically be a large flat bread from this region that we couldn't get hold of we think the rest of the ingredients are pretty authentic it looks kebab-like but almost a burger kebab chili sauce onions meat is that egg white is it scrambled egg or is it tofu or is it cheese cheese well there's a little bit of spice oh okay oh oh oh oh it's sweet tangy tomatoey i can't work out that is tofu or egg no cheese cheese there's curds cheese curds cheese curds so you've got cheese kind of meat patty onions in bread i hate this bit i think the meat is poor the meat isn't the defining flavor no it's it's the salsa it's a chilli sauce yeah it is chilli sauce it's definitely a chili sauce it's a sweet it's a sweet spicy chilli sauce so typically it would kind of be a flat bread from this particular country you are seeing the red stuff in there that is a roasted red pepper sauce there is a cheese kind of thick and tangy cheese with some added spice and there is a patty which would typically have at least two this is in particular three different meats combined wow so that's pork beef and lamb i'm gonna have to ask you to scribble down a country where you think this particular street food might come from oh i'm trying to work out what side of that ocean to go how obscure you'll be able to spell it well in that case it's going to be three given just how difficult this is we'll award a single point for the closest person and i'm using an app from country to country so we're in that country to wear in that country i don't know i'm just using an app and five points if you can get it bang on so get one bang on and you'll beat four nearest answers yeah like that okay bring it okay show your boards in three two one and dora and tunisia we're not that far away from it we are no we're not close barry you are at least on the right continent oh my goodness the answer is serbia so it is the landlocked country in the balkans no i knew that because that's very similar to the kebab that i bought you for your which is why we chose it we were so interested by that cuisine this time we've gone for the serbian national dish which is called pleskavizza why were you drawn to tunisia out of interest i was thinking more moving in towards the middle east kind of kebab really yeah and then for some reason rochan is here which is not that at all so interestingly these pleskovicia are becoming increasingly popular in fast food restaurants in places like germany sweden austria but more traditionally found across the balkans and it is the national dish of serbia and that roasted red pepper ajvar is an amazing dip that in a burger would be spanishy that's too obvious so there's like that what's an obscure country in that region andorra and it's mountainous hence a big fatty burger kind of my logic quite like the logic what are the miles difference the app calculation tells me you were 33 miles apart wow i reckon you've got that i reckon you're closer that's nuts barry on the right continent with andorra 975 miles jamie on the wrong continent is 942 miles jamie takes the single point well it does impossible cool good game good game jamie's got a point lift the clash on round two your turn [Music] oh delayed reaction because okay that looks very familiar yes [Music] mmm great sounds okay i'm taking some a very different flavor of that i'm getting peking duck in the thickest pancake ever dipping sauce the crunchy flaky things are absolutely delicious on their own this then has look at the cheese we've got a cheese ball and the filling can be one of many different things as you imagine this kind of street food could have a number of different fillings i'm sorry that is epic that is so shame i'm gonna say phenomenal no barry's right so what are you getting in the the casing itself what would you call it it is a herby roti it's a herby roti taco with a peaking duck and hoisin filling but with stringy mozzarella cheese and charred corn sri lanka mexico china i've got everything in that so the casing is a pancake in its approach or kind of what it's called but it's made in a very similar way to the paratas or rotis that we were taught before so it's kind of cross between flat bread and pancake but it's a wonderful flaky buttery consistency that is almost reminiscent of like a croissant dough as it flakes apart as well and then inside is an unusual filling while unusual it's pasty it's cheese and corn and pork floss and the dipping sauce is chili and vinegar is so sweet favorite thing i've eaten this year wow where's it from and i do want to stress this is one filling that you can get there but obviously there are lots of different fillings sometimes they're served without fillings reveal your answers in three two one malaysia and singapore oh you've both kicked neighbors oh no we could be closer in miles what made you think of these places why why did you pick those should we say a melting pot of cuisines um yeah i thought singapore as well um but we've done it a lot so i just went up a bit i went to malaysia this dish is kongju bing oh and is from taiwan oh okay so we're talking kind of same level as hong kong but south of shang it's an island off of china but you've also kind of got japanese influence traditionally aboriginal culture you've got over the years influence from dutch and portuguese like it is a real melting pot of cuisine and culture it's a phenomenal street food dish yeah scallion pancake or green onion pancake but made in a very similar way to a prata kind of coiled and flattened and in between those layers you have spring onion chinese five spice with szechuan pepper which is what you were getting that kind of peaking esque kind of flavor mixed with oil and that's spread over liberally with the onions coiled flattened and fried the pancake themselves is delicious i've had a lot of pork products in my life and i'm not sure i've ever had or purposefully had pork floss before i've had it a lot in sort of vietnamese or not a lot but in vietnamese cuisine as well it's quite literally candid and pulled so it is candy floss like would you like some yes it is delicious combine that with your scallion pancakes flavour street food for me maximizes flavour because there isn't a fancy setting there isn't a fancy wine list all there is is what's in your hand and that's why street food is so good so neither of you got the five points but we were next to each other the question is who got closest my app tells me that barry you were 1542 miles away the world is a big place so far away i thought it was quite close jamie you were 1919 miles away 377 miles apart barry takes the win always together in my heart a point each let's move on to round three a point a piece number three lift the clock no but i think that's thai basil right okay oh right oh oh i see talk through what you're seeing taste the filling on their own have a little dip in the dipping sauce too i'm trying to get my head around what this is should be perfectly balanced and then by all means eat it with some of the herb salad too because combined it should be a taste sensation so i feel like that is like a rice a rice pancake noodle thing yeah the meat has a fishiness to it so i think it's quite heavy on the fish sauce any idea of being able to narrow down which meat i'm gonna go for pork it could be like a mix of pork and chicken pork is the correct answer but it's also been mixed with mushroom so it's pork and mushroom and i think that does give it a kind of a softer lighter obviously the bounce of mushroom as well crispy onions on top yep on the fish sauce in the dipping sauce along with vinegar and sugar and garlic and ginger and chili sweetened as well in the mixture you've got oyster sauce seasoning and also some sugar so again that has a slight sweetness to it and that that dipping sauce which is often sort of lime juice fish sauce vinegar diluted with water and then any combination of ginger garlic chili lemongrass depending on what you're serving it with i've got two places in my in my mind write one of those down i'm going for the one that i think geographically would make sense but if it's the other it'll be gutted okay you've scribbled down answers please reveal really three two one [Music] and vietnam neighbors they are indeed neighbors again thank goodness so for me that instantly looked similar to vietnamese spring rolls plus it had all of the things that i love about the barn me sandwich with all of those fresh herbs yeah now i don't think we need to be covered and we've not explored the world so i would be surprised if that came from that region well i can reveal that i only needed to calculate the distance for one of those boards oh no so this i think it's pronounced ban kion it means rolled cake so it is a steamed pancake with a rolled filling and it is from vietnam oh yes well done mate i mean you work i'll take it i don't care that's fine barry you're only 200 miles away wow you stormed into the lead well done to jamie that was amazing the scores are 6-1 it's all still to play for in the final round can bass get the draw round number four hello lift the clutch been around the world now haven't i tried this what is that oh it's got bits in it barry have attacked before we drink this where did you get that plate from cheers cheers that's a smell [Music] how could a drink be crunchy it's sweet and berry-like but with a with a sandy crunch but it's it's powdery and the powder has got wet but stayed powdery so traditionally this drink may be served hot or cold it's actually very refreshing right it's it's half smoothie half tea but they've left the tea bag in and broken the tea bag they've gone everywhere a traditional drink in this country often consumed for breakfast i'm i'm really lost it is that fruity berry grapey kind of vibe that you're getting but it is also made clove cinnamon a little bit of sugar and sometimes orange peel as well i don't know about you bats but i need a dart to throw a map and that will tell me where which country this is from the lifeline there might also be a bianca version which is made with white version of the same fruit yes i think i've got the fruit i'm going to write a fruit down no i need the country you know how this game works i'm also going to write a fruit down is that where i want to go i've really got this i've got to get this one right this is for the draw if you can get it bang on if you could now reveal your countries in three two one both bees bolivia and brazil so you are both in south america yes yeah oh no this oh no is at least from the same continent oh this is api morada and it is made from corn purple corn so this is a traditional drink of the indigenous people of this country this one has that wonderful purple color because of the purple corn there's no berries in it it's just corn sugared water with clove and cinnamon this particular drink happy morada is from bolivia sorry what south american country as we know it borders peru and brazil it does border brazil paraguay argentina and chile no way come on baby oh all that for a draw the only review we've ever had of olivia before is our mate went there and came back with a tapeworm not as a pet oh as a result i think that means it's a draw so what i've done is add up all of the miles of your wrong answers oh no to see who was the furthest away barry you were 2720 miles jamie you were 942 miles away for one of your answers 1 919 miles away for one of your answers and 705 miles away for another which puts you at 3566 barry takes good game no i'm not going to say barry takes away i'm going to say jamie loses yeah good game good game good game that was fun did you have a favorite plate or glass of street food the taiwanese pancakes obviously stand out for me the vietnamese rolls pancake rolls for me were amazing they were so good the balance in them was incredible over to you guys which of those four was your favorite and or which would you love to try comment down below and as always give the food team some more inspiration for treats that they can cook up for us and we can embarrass ourselves with geography jamie can you ever chase one of those chunks and tell me what that tastes like to you you mean the fruit lumps they're trying to kill me they're trying to kill me that's got pineapple she like peanuts oh i got nuts we'll keep well away from that vegans get so much good treatment poor old barry's pineapple energy keep shoving it in it's fine okay
