Selling Successfully on Mercari Guide

Hey friends, how are you guys doing today? I hope you're doing so so well and boy I am so excited for today's video. I have been exploring some different reselling websites. Today we're going to talk a little bit about Mercari and how to sell well on Mercari because as a lot of you guys know if you're part of the reselling community, back in February another reselling platform, I'm not going to name names. But another reselling platform that is popular made a big change to their search algorithm. And it really wiped out a lot of sellers on that platform. And a lot of us realized that we need to be investing in other reselling platforms too. It's not wise to have all your eggs in one basket. And so I started looking really hard into Mercari. And I did a lot more research on Mercari. And I've been listing a lot more on Mercari than I ever have in the past. And because of that, I've been making a lot more sales on Mercari. So when Mercari reached out to me and said that they wanted to work with me on a video, I was overjoyed. I'm so excited to say that today's video is sponsored by Mercari. But if you guys have been sticking around, then you have heard me talk about how I want to really try to figure out Mercari for all of us because it is not wise for me to only sell on other platforms when they can make a change that would significantly impact my revenue for a given month. Today we're going to talk a little bit about Mercari and what it is, but also I'm going to show you guys how I list an item on it because I think that that is very helpful. It is a little bit different than other platforms, but the major reason why I have been looking at Mercari over some other reselling websites is because it is super easy to use, which I appreciate. It does make life for me pretty easy, and then I also really appreciate it because it takes such a small reselling fee. So Mercari only takes a 10% commission on your sales, which for me is really good because on the other platform I sell a lot on, they take 20% of my sales. So recently I sold a bundle on a different platform for $310 and I lost almost $70 just to commission fees. But if I would have sold that same bundle here on Mercari, then I would have only lost $30. And what I found in my experience, and this is not just because they are sponsoring today's video. but I find that I sell a lot more high end or bigger ticket items on Mercari than I do on other platforms. And I also use Mercari to buy things. I've bought quite a few things on Mercari for my husband Jeremy, not just clothing. And I have sold a lot of not just clothing on Mercari as well. I find that some categories do really well. So we're gonna talk about the categories that I think do really well in my experience. And one of the top categories that I have sold the most in is concert apparel so i have sold a jonas brothers concert sweatshirt on mercari i've sold two or three different ariana grande sweatshirts these i found a couple months ago in the bins they were all stained and not in the best condition but i sold every single one of those for over a hundred dollars on mercari so those do really well and it's one of the things that they talk about too even is that concert apparel does really well so that's one thing that i think is a really good category to be listing And then I also really think that electronics is taking off as well. Quite a few months ago, I don't even know if you were here during this point, let me know, but I sold a Nintendo 3DS on Mercari that I found in the bins in a clothing bin. I just found it at the bottom of a bin. I was like, oh my gosh, this is a game console. And I ended up selling that on Mercari for over $100. So pieces like that do really well. And then the other category that I find does the best for me is vintage clothing. So I have sold... quite a few vintage and knit pieces on Mercari. I'd sold a lot of vintage sweaters. And the one that comes to my mind most recently is one that I'd picked up for my dollar thrift challenge. It was this really cool hand knit like toy sweater that I sold on Mercari for I think like 57, $60. And I know that I probably could not have gotten as much for it on a different platform. I also wanna mention, since this is a sponsored post, if you guys haven't tried out Mercari or downloaded it, then make sure you use the link in the description to try it out. I promise it is worth it. We all need to be investing in multiple avenues to make money. But also if you want to buy on it, totally highly recommend it. But also since this is sponsored, if you guys want to support me, then please watch the whole video and that will show them that they should work with me again in the future. And that is a dream of mine. So please watch the whole video. I appreciate it. But now let's move on to me listing something. I tell you guys, I have been doing a lot of research. I've been listing a lot more frequently and I feel like I've really gotten a good idea. kind of rhythm on listing on Mercari. So let's jump into me listing something. So recently I picked up this really cool vintage Coca-Cola crew neck sweatshirt. And I had a comment from one of you guys telling me too, that you guys owned this in the 1980s, I think. So it's this really cool yellow Coca-Cola sweatshirt. Today we're going to focus on the yellow Coca-Cola sweatshirt. So I am going to pull up my screen so you guys can see what I'm doing, but let me scoot over so you can see. So I'm gonna pull up Mercari, and as you can see, I do have some likes with things I found for Jeremy, and also another pair of Rothy's, because I like to do that. So I'm gonna go over to my profile, and I'm gonna hit sell. So I do have some things in process, but we're just gonna go down and hit list an item. Now, I was gonna use a draft, but I wanna show you guys what I actually do. I have so many pictures. Also, sneak peek into some quilted pieces I've been working on. But here are my pictures of the Coca-Cola sweatshirt. And I am going to click these in the order in which I want them to appear. But I just realized that I did not white out my background yet. So we're going to go into photo room. There's me. I am going to click the picture that I want to be my thumbnail, which is this one. And we're going to white out the background. So that way it's ready to go. So I'm going to click a white background. And I like to take my pictures. Here's a little life hack for you. This is a free app. So it has the logo in the bottom right. But... I am going to, I always take my pictures a little bit further back so I can crop it out at the next step. So what can you do? Um, I'm going to save it to my pictures and then I'm going to go back to my pictures. We're going to just crop it. So that way it doesn't have the photo room logo. Love that. Okay, so that picture is ready to go. Now we're gonna go to Mercari and I'm gonna go click that picture as number one and then go find some other pictures. All of these are good. Yeah, let's show them all of the good things. What are the back? There's a little flaw in the sleeve. I'm gonna show that for sure. I'll just throw in some other ones. I like to give as many photos as they allow me to. So 12. So that's what I'm gonna use. And then as you can see it populates in there. So now we're gonna write a title. So in my opinion using all of your characters that you're allowed is definitely the best way to go. So I am gonna say vintage coke cola. I also this is something that's nice about this is they give you a lot of different um suggestions while you're making oh see I spelled vintage wrong already. Um but they give you a lot of different suggestions. So even once I put in in the title something like the size it'll fill that in automatically which is really nice so vintage coca-cola yellow crew neck and i'm gonna say in quotes thirst nose no season and i also like to capitalize every word and then i don't know how many characters i have left i think it's a size medium so i'm gonna go out oh yeah i have plenty of characters so let me go check yep size medium i'm gonna add that in there And then I have 10 more characters, but that's pretty close to the limit. So I'm feeling pretty good about that. And I'm going to write a description. I like to use a lot of keywords in my descriptions, as many as I can. So I'm going to probably fast forward through this part because this is going to take a while for me to write this description. So I'm throwing in a lot of keywords like from the 1980s, really cool mountain scene, it's retro, features skiers drinking I want to say coca-cola as many times as possible without it being weird, so I say drinking some coca-cola on the slopes. Such a cool piece and perfect for a lounge. changing or for wearing out and about so that's gonna be my description i usually say the end of every single one of my descriptions gently used and if it's in good condition i'll say in good condition no flaws this one does have a small flaw so i'm not going to say no flaws but but it is in good condition for being from the 1980s and in good condition. And I can say that since I already disclosed the flaw. Now add up to three hashtags for sure. I'm gonna say vintage, because as I was saying vintage tends to do really well. And then I'm going to also say Coca-Cola. So that's what I'm going with. And then select category. We're gonna go and put this, this is the toss up. For a lot of crewnecks, I always have to decide if I wanna put it in to women or men. I think. I'm gonna put this one in women because it's cropped. If it wasn't cropped, I'd probably list it under men's, but this is what I'm saying. They also give those suggested categories at the top, but let's go put it under women. We're gonna go women, and I'm gonna go just put under sweaters. They don't have a sweatshirt category, but I'm hoping that they'll bring that in soon. Brand, Coca-Cola, let's see if they have that. Yeah, they do, okay, sweet. Condition, I'm gonna say good, because that's one or few, mine are flies. Medium, color, yellow. The thing about Mercari is you need to guess how much your item is going to weigh. So it's nice to have a good idea. Honestly, it might weigh two pounds. And now I'm going to select my carrier. I just always pick whichever one is the cheapest. So UPS SurePost is $9.42 because I have my buyer pay for the shipping. So I'm going to either pick that or the 966 FedEx SmartPost. I think that the FedEx SmartPost sends with USPS. So I'm going to pick that one. The buyer, I'm going to have them pay. And then. And then for a price, I'm going to say $50. And so I really like this too. Instead of having to send constant offers to likers or something like that, you get to set a floor price. So over time it'll drop your price for you. So I am going to say my floor price is probably, let's go with $40. So eventually it'll move from 50 down to 40. So on Mercari, I always like to list it a little bit higher than I actually want to get for it because it will drop it over time. So 50. dollars i think that's pretty so i think that's pretty good i'm gonna save that and now that's it super easy i'm gonna hit the list button and it is live that is what it looks like and now she is live on my mercari so we did that so super easy super simple and now i'll be able to make like 45 482 dollars off of that if i sell it for 50 not too bad so that was my little brief tutorial on how to list something on Mercari and what items I think are doing well on the platform.
