two decades with first ever allocation of 33% quota of seats for women well a total of 523 candidates were in the freay across 25 FBS including three Municipal and 21 town [Music] councils a crucial Urban local body election in nagaland after two decades with a historic first for the first time 33% seats were reserved for women across the 25 Urban local bodies that include three Municipal and 21 town councils this election has a huge significance nagaland enacted its Municipal act in 2001 and the first urban local body elections were held in 2004 without reservation for women in 2012 polls were declared with women reservation but they could not be held following objections from tribal bodies which opposed the quota in 2017 the state government attempted to hold polls with 33% reservations for women but it backfired protesters attacked and set a blaze government buildings in parts of the state after the 2017 violence of few women group first approached the high court and then the Supreme Court in this matter the epex court in its order had asked the nagaland state election commission to notify the polls with 33 % women reservation later the state government paved way
