Meta Quest 3 vs Valve Index Overview

The Meta Quest 3 versus the good old valve index which is the best VR headset and should you get one let's dive right into it firstly it is very important to knowe that both of these headsets are very different from each other where the quest 3 is a hybrid VR headset that can for example play games without needing any external devices while also being capable at the same time to connect to an external computer and play PC VR games like halflife Alex while the valve index on the other hand is a PC VR headset only that means you will always need a buff gaming PC and a long cable to be able to use this VR headset and we should also not forget that the quest 3 released much more recent compared to the V index which came out a couple of years ago but with that being said let's first look at the hardware comparison since probably the most important thing on any VR headset is of course its display with meta rocking over 264 by 2,28 pixels per eye the V index comes in much shorter at 1,450 by 1,600 and while both headsets can rock up to 120 HZ refresh rate the V index also has an experimental mode at 144 but that's not all because the meta Quest 3 has built-in cameras on the outside of the headset letting them track your controllers and upper body while the valve index has to make use of external devices called lighthouses that have to be placed in your room to be capable of tracking in your movement although while the lighthouses might be a much more complicated setup it does create much more accurate tracking but another big difference in Hardware are the built in speakers where the quest 3 has them directly integrated into the headband itself it is the V index that takes it a step further with having an adjustable off a audio solution that you can position to whatever way fits best for you but another obvious difference is that the quest 3 can be connected wirelessly to another computer or external device while the valve index is always using a thed cable that has to be directly plugged in to your computer so unless you have a cool pulley system to hold up that cable to your ceiling be careful not to trip over it while you're spinning around but there are also some hardware specs where the valve index is a clear winner because when it comes to the F of view the quest 3 only rocks in at a maximum of 110° while the v index is using a class leading 130° diagonal field of view that makes it feel like your entire vision is completely filled with the screen itself and the second thing where the valve index truly outshines is when we look at the hardware controllers because although the quest 3 made a huge upgrade going from their previous controllers to now completely ringless design the V index is still after all those years on the Forefront when it comes to Crazy controllers because their so-called Knuckles can also track your fingers near perfectly and that's not even saying that it's smart design also lets you completely stretch out your hand if you want to do so imagine when you for example throw an object in VR if you would do this with a quest 3 controller it would be flying across the room while the knuckles from the Val index stay tightly connected to your hand but while there are some pros and cons for both headsets when it comes down to Hardware the biggest difference can be seen in the software because while both headsets are capable of playing PC VR games on Steam it is the quest 3 that also has its complete Standalone library with lots of exclusive games like Resident Evil 4 VR or population 1 giving meta a huge Advantage when it comes to the game library but meta took it even further because with the quest three they're also putting a lot of focus on mixed reality experiences this means that the cameras on the outside of the headset are being used to see the world around you in a full color view but instead of just giving you the image of how your outside world looks like it can also be used to play specific mixed reality games and of course since the valve index doesn't have any of these color cameras built in it is not possible for them to create mixed reality games and besides it is also important to know that Beyond gaming The Meta Quest 3 also has loads of different productivity apps with their main goal of eventually replacing your laptop and PC all together but we also have to talk about the price because while this might change depending on the country that you live in the quest 3 roughly comes in at$ 500 whereas the full package for the V index that includes base stations and controllers come in at a whopping $1,000 which is quite a lot especially if you keep in mind that it already released a couple of years ago but that gets us to the final conclusion although both of these headsets are very different from each other with the hybrid Quest 3 on one side and the pcvr valve index on the other it is surprising to see that even after all those years both have their pros and cons when it comes down to hardware with the quest streets higher resolution and built-in cameras that don't require any outside tracking devices and the F index with its off air speakers and insane controllers but when it comes down to the software the quest 3 clearly takes a top spot with a much bigger gaming library and no need to be thed to a gaming PC and sprinkle in those extra mixed reality experiences and you got yourself a great VR headset however if you already own a v index you might want to wait for the elusive valve Deckard which is also known as the valve index too because since the original index released already a couple of years ago their next Generation might be the biggest leap in VR that we have ever seen but in the end only time will tell with both these VR headsets going down in history as one of the best on the market but that's not all if you want to see the quest 3 compared to some other amazing VR headsets then check out the video you see on screen right now to make sure you don't miss out and of course stay awesome
