Exploring Extracurricular Activities at BSB

[Music] the bsb has a very extensive range of extracurricular activities many of which are provided by the school staff so all of the sports that you could imagine will be covered you'll see gymnastics rugby you'll see some football hockey you'll see athletics cricket and others throughout the year we put out 60 different teams so most students will represent the school at one sport or another the extracurricular program at bsb is extremely busy there's always something going on every lunch time and pretty much every after school as well there are loads of extracurricular activities at bsb especially when it comes to things like music and there's so many opportunities and there are plenty of music teachers for every possible instrument you can imagine we have over 30 instrumental teachers and 400 lessons on individual instruments taking place each week you will see chess debating and you will see an environmental group called leaf and then of course we've got some of our facilities used by external community users who provide all of the guides and the scouts and the cubs for us we have a wide range of extracurricular activities in languages which range from language clubs at lunch time through to more committed types of clubs for example russian which is a very different language to anyone they've come across before and requires some application there are various other clubs that come into school they include dance clubs and in particular the ballet is very popular our drama facilities are superb as well as the 240 seater theater that we're sitting in now we've got the full lighting box and all of the equipment we need to go with it we have our own costume department which is enormous we put on several productions every year some that are school-based productions some with parents and members of the local community we have sport clubs for parents book clubs for parents all sorts of exercise programs for parents all sorts of activities from academic to artistic so it's very easy to get involved we run clubs for all those students who are interested in taking part in stage crew so if they're interested in how sound works in the theater how lighting works set designs set building one of the most popular extracurricular activities provided by the school is the duke of edinburgh's award scheme which keeps our students busy for most of the summer months we offer the scheme at bronze silver and gold levels and we achieve successes in all of those levels every year the bsb has very clear goals for its students obviously we want them to aim for the highest academic success that they can achieve but we also want them to aim for the greatest personal development that they can as well we like to give students lots of opportunities for leadership and to take on responsibility at all different ages through the school the bsb i have to say is a very happy and busy school it's very purposeful and you will see a community here that is usually buzzing and because it's a community school it buzzes 24 7. there are things happening here even on saturdays and sundays we have a happy group of students and a happy group of staff who work together and the relationships upon which the school is built are fantastic
