Key Terms

  • Course: Space/page on your Moodle site for teaching materials and activities.
  • Moodle Admin/Manager: Typically creates courses and adds students/teachers.
  • Editing Teacher: Teachers who can add/delete materials, assign activities, teach, and grade.
  • Non-Editing Teacher: Similar to a classroom assistant, can grade and moderate but cannot add/delete materials.
  • Students: Learners in your course, can be renamed (e.g., learners, trainees).

Course Setup

  1. Setting Up Your Course

    • Personalize with course information and images.
    • Adjust course format (e.g., Topics Format, Weekly Format).
    • Enable/disable completion tracking.
    • Rename roles (optional).
  2. Course Navigation and Settings

    • Access course settings to change names, summaries, and images.
    • Course format and additional settings like completion tracking and role renaming.
  3. Editing Mode

    • Enable to add/edit course content.
    • Sections: Can be renamed and populated with learning materials.
    • Block Drawer: Add extra information through blocks.

Adding Teaching Materials

    • Can drag and drop both from the central area and the course index.
  • Activity Chooser: Central tool for adding resources and activities.
    • Resources: Static content (e.g., Files, Pages, URLs, Folders).
    • Activities: Interactive or graded content (e.g., Forums, Quizzes, Assignments).

    • Create pages with text, links, images, and multimedia.
  • Activity Example: Assignment
    • Can include online or file submissions, with various feedback methods (text, audio, video).
    • Key settings: submission types, feedback types, restrict access, activity completion.

    • Restrict Access: Hide/show items based on specific criteria.
    • Activity Completion: Track student progress with manual or automatic marking.

Enrolling Students

  • Site and Course Enrollment
    • Authentication: Getting users on the site (handled by admin).
    • Enrollment: Getting users into the course (handled by teacher).
  • Manual Enrollment
    • Manually add students from the participants' section.
  • Self-Enrollment
    • Enable for students to enroll themselves.
    • Optional settings for enrollment keys, enrollment limits, and welcome messages.
  • Admin-Enrolled Methods
    • Admin can upload CSV files for bulk enrollment or use cohorts.
