if you've ever wondered whether the carnivore diet is actually good or actually bad get this Elon Musk the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla just went on Joe Rogan recently and if you haven't caught the episode yet Elon didn't hold back sharing some very controversial truths about eating meat and the carnivore diet that have sent shock waves through the diet Community as a whole what he revealed honestly might change the way we view the carnivore lifestyle forever and we are breaking it all down for you right now what is the carnivore diet in does it matter what Elon Musk thinks about [Music] it hi I'm Dr Eric Westman and welcome to my channel where I review and debunk nutritional misinformation online this is a video of an video of an interview of Elon Musk and Joe Rogan and steak and butter gal who I've reviewed before as a particular method of teaching and following a low carb carnivore type of diet and let's see what she says and what Elon Musk says and Joe Rogan says be sure to wait till the end of my video to get my final thoughts before we dive into today's video I want to invite you to take keton nutritionist Amy Burger's free Master Class the secrets to Breaking keto fat loss stalls if you're doing all the right things but stubborn weight still won't budge then Amy's master class is for you see the link in the description to sign up performance when sleep deprived mental performance when sleep deprived increases pretty measurably when you supplement with creatine is creatine naturally occurring in like steak or yeah it's like naturally occurring in meat I think I think that's where it's coming from I think it's a primarily an animal-based thing yeah but like I I did switch to like steak and eggs for breakfast and I found that's like a power up oh yeah power up yeah well we're all overrun with carbohydrates yeah yeah totally and you like carbohydrates make this big crash the rise and rise and the Crash you stay flat if you eat like a a primarily high protein high fat diet your body runs off ketosis essentially I mean so I just have like steak and eggs no no bread or or anything yeah that's the it's great actually it's a power up I'd say well so interesting to see the responses of steak and butter gal and her friend to these what experts on nutrition no well so fascinating how testimonials work isn't it how you might have someone who knows nothing about nutrition but they're entrepreneurs and they can get a company to make a rocket to rival what a government used to be able to do and suddenly they're put into positions of being experts on everything well you would hope that they get great expert advice about everything I mean certainly money is not the issue but we've seen through the years people who have all the money in the world do some crazy things in terms of nutrition but so here we're watching a massive internet influencer Joe Rogan explain a carnivore diet used the term ketosis which is actually pretty sophisticated and yet they're not quite sure if cre creatinine creatine aine is in meat well of course it is and you know I guess they're saying you don't have to get it from a a powder or a supplement at the gyms and then fascinating to hear a PowerUp breakfast being steak and eggs which means not only are you getting the nutrition you need but you're not bringing the power down by breaking ketosis with the carbs of course to the user of a steak and egg kind of breakfast without the bread and the grits or or B they're not going to know that it's really the absence of the carbs that gives them the energy it seems like it's the egg and the bacon or however whatever you're doing that doesn't have carbs in it when really it's the absence of those carbs that make you feel feel good even not eating anything in the morning would be just fine by me because it doesn't turn off the ketosis or turn off the fat burning from the night before but okay so now we have testimonials from people and there's no question testimonials are influential you know should they be no not really but if you walk the talk and you you are influencing lots of people I'm I'm glad they're talking about this people dismiss this whole carnivore diet thing because in our heads there's a lot of this that put this thing out there that animal agriculture is the number one contributor to global warming yeah that's rubbish not true it's hot matter not only is it hot but the real problem is factory farming regenerative farming is carbon neutral if doesn't sequester carbon the animals are not going to make any difference to global warming they none zero zero nothing do you think that that's just propaganda because of people that have a vested interest in like plant-based meat products and things along those lines green energy I think it's part of it you know that you're generally going to get people pushing to avoid meat like some people just you know yeah maybe they go to financial interest maybe they're just like vegetarians vegans or whatever ideological ideological reasons but it's not going to make any difference to global warming or you know the CO2 concentration the atmosphere really people eat pure steaks it doesn't matter it's relevant irrelevant I want to be super clear about that yeah will not matter not even able to measure it okay that's how irrelevant it is wow well I'm not sure if he's up to the expert level in that domain again experts should be able to get advice but can be filtered through lots of different ways but to hear someone say that you know the major reason youngsters are gravitating away from beef I think is ethical moral saving the world climate change that sort of thing of course the people who've coached Me Through The Years say that that's not such an important thing and even the medical carbon footprint of treating diabetes is more than that which comes from eating cows I saw a or having cows saw a presentation about that comparison which was pretty fascinating but so okay so climate change isn't such a big issue although some might argue well you know do they even think climate change is a big deal or not I I'm pretty sure but here it's almost like this side or this Camp comes with all sorts of other belief systems and I'm trying to just get down to the diet here not other sorts of politics or beliefs systems and to have someone say clearly that it doesn't affect the climate change to have animal sourced food especially if it wasn't Factory farmed I think it's an important message isn't it funny that that's unable heretic speaking like that's crazy talk now nowadays it's like you have to say that we have to eat less meat bad as much as you want it's not going to make a difference sing it thank you for yeah absolutely if somebody says it does make a difference I'm like how will you measure it and if you can't even measure it then it's yeah yeah literally I won't be able to measure it well that's an important point that if you can't measure something how do you know that you can change it or that it's changed and I guess here the the extrapolation is what's the the content the science is being generalized and extrapolated and it's very difficult to measure for example what area of the sky is being affected by just the cows and now let's get to the video where Sten butter gal and her friend just talk about the carnivore diet in general I also want us to like go one step further and talk a little bit about what this could mean to heal Humanity we both have tried the whole vegan movement vegan lifestyle where all of the people and the celebrities definitely do vouch for the vegan diet and saying it is the best diet for the environment it's the best diet not just for the but also for human bodies and I'll speak for myself first the amount of damage that eating vegan caused on my hormones my physical health my mental health I lost my period so I essentially just became infertile that's devastating for a young woman I started veganism when I was 18 and I was vegan for 6 years so up until 24 and those are the years that I could have developed even more as a young woman so if there's anything that I say in response to what Elon and Joe briefly talked about when it comes to eating meat is that if you're a woman and you're contemplating even a little bit about going vegan take what I'm saying seriously don't go vegan you don't have to even go carnivore keep eating meat it is going to do your body and your health so many favors well then that's a good message and it doesn't have to be as Extreme as carnivore even though this is carnivore gal or steak and butter gal carnivore diet I teach a low carb keto diet as a therapeutic and healing kind of program for medical issues and yet I know that some people can eat more carbs than others and not everyone has to do a keto or a carnivore diet but the idea that someone has chosen a diet based on the the ethics or the moral the spiritual and then not thinking or even considering that it might be affecting their health is something pretty common I see it in my practice where someone is not feeling well they might have a medical diagnosis and they don't even suspect the diet for causing it because well isn't the vegan diet the healthiest diet there is you know everyone says so well if you're in a certain Echo chamber everyone says so so yes you have to consider even if you're on a carnivore or low carbo keto diet consider that the diet is not the right fit for you if you have a medical condition that's not resolved so I think there are lots of different ways to be healthy but I've seen people get kind of brainwashed into thinking that I'd rather save the the Earth and go through and not consider that the health problems that I have are from the diet and now we're getting some push back on whether it will save the Earth at all so not a rare thing for steak and butter gal to have Improvement of these medical conditions by doing a low carb carnivore type of diet for me my energy has increased my energy is way more stable throughout the day I'm not having crashes I do require less sleep I have more energy that's very interesting my ability to exercise and work out has increased I had to increase my incline I had to increase my speed I lowered my body fat she's literally Aging in r i well you know the thought occurs to me that you don't want necessarily to talk to the person who who developed the car engine or or if you're if you're just going to drive the car so you you know you want to be able to put the right gas in the car and we kind of make sure that it's difficult to put the wrong kind of gas you know diesel or regular into the car but you know if you're a race car driver if you're if you're running the car driving it you don't need to know how it works and perhaps we're relying on nutrition information in in that way in the wrong way we need we think we need dietitians nutritionists who understand the ins and outs of the creatine coming from the muscle of the animal or the or or do we just need to know that that's sufficient and here's how I drive my car she's able to do all these different things to be able to you know use the body in a performance way without needing the detail of understanding how the Body Works how it functions and perhaps we've relied upon so-called experts who have been trained in only one way of thinking about how a body can work and that's one that has carbohydrate in it the lowfat diet had was the diet of teaching for the last you know five decades and we now know that's not the optimal diet for everyone it might be for some but the exact opposite here a carnivore diet is extremely low in carbohydrates high in fat and that's kind of one of the the sticking points that some people still can't wrap their heads around but you know the functioning car is doing great you know it must be like the difference between a regular engine and a rotary engine or or an old phone with a cord and and a cell phone now I mean you don't need to know the detail of how it it works before and if we only rely on people who have the old knowledge of how things work we're never going to advance and never going to learn and so what we're seeing is people here driving the body if you will in a way that is superior than ever before by doing the exact opposite of what other people might say is best for them pretty interesting maybe we're relying on the technical people a little too much the vegan lifestyle there is a lot of Shame and thrown at people that do leave the vegan life oh yeah because they are told also that they were never vegan I have been told that my and if you believe in something so much and you're doing it to the full extent you try everything to be told by somebody else that you never did it correctly is not only not true but honor your own experience and fully believe that what your body is telling you and what you're experiencing is actually something that oh maybe I need to look into is this diet actually working for me is this lifestyle working for me is me giving my life to this way of life actually benefiting me and the planet and Humanity well you know it's not just the vegans who've done that to you know call out well you're just not doing it well enough the lowfat diet which was done by lots of people and tried by lots of people and it just didn't work for them the lead investigator of the Women's Health Initiative got up and and said right well it didn't have any positive results over eight years in you know 40,000 women and the conclusion was that she said that they just didn't do it right they just didn't do it well enough you know so you can't blame the the well you can blame people for not doing it right but it's not correct to do that it's not honoring the and accepting that maybe it's not the right fit your experience is your truth don't let anybody ever take that away from you and we both experienced very similar deteriorating like paths when we went down the vegan lifestyle hearing this conversation I feel like really discredits like the whole legitimacy of a vegan diet because not only are you not really saving the planet after all right and you're not really saving your health like what is the point we can start getting into agenda and the pushing of plant-based and of pushing vegan ways of living I never felt more sick and more weak in my life than when I was vegan and I've never felt more full of energy full of health and just this sense of calm in my body that I never experienced with any other way of eating truly just the most body calming mind calming Spirit calming way of living that I've ever experienced y same here and I'm 6 years into carnivore I say this all the time but even after 6 years of eating nothing but animal foods and I'm eating a very high fat Carnival diet the journey has only been getting better it's really just an uphill journey and experience and unlike the vegan diet nothing has been deteriorating or falling apart it like literally has just been strengthening healing repairing I'm not eating for pleasure anymore I don't view food as a way to entertain to numb out certain emotions I see food purely as fuel to make me feel incredible so that I can do the things that I want to do in life and I think every young woman deserves to feel this way effortlessly without having to use drugs without having to use tons and tons of caffeine and energy drinks and you know fat diets or like juice cleanses like let's stop brainwashing and promoting this type of thing and saying that it's totally normal and okay to lean on these dangerous habits of eating and living there's a lot to unpack there one that might not come very well received is using food just as fuel and not enjoy having it for enjoyment actually you can have a very enjoyable way of eating on a carnivore or low carb if you have just a little bit of vegetables and other other coffee things things like that so but for those who are unable to control that even in to an addiction degree control the pleasure pleasurable aspects your you're having the junk foods that Ultra process food that you can't stop eating it is best to just avoid all of that and so carnivore is a treatment one of many treatments for Ultra processed food addiction it gets rid of all of it and so this calm that she's feeling I think is the absence of the anxiety that is comes with any sort of addiction you get into a withdrawal syndrome and you relieve the withdrawal by getting the drug drug again and to have it be part of the a food discussion is something rather new we all know that smoking and drinking alcohol or addictive sorts of things that still are are in the population to a certain level but sugar and Ultra processed food addiction is real and they might be experiencing the absence of that addiction that they're not talking about but they're experiencing women coming out and sharing about what we've experienced through our own health healing through carnivore like if you've had experience share that like more people need to hear about what experience you've healed through eating more meat and more animal fats yes especially women talk with about fats eating higher fat for women has I mean it's just transformed our health for sure yeah and keep in mind that a vegan diet has really only been around for I don't know 70 80 years with that name and the idea that you could survive without any sort of animal products to that degree vegetarianism of course is very popular worldwide and can be healthy as well you're not quite as strict as a vegan kind of diet and it's easier to do a keto vegetarian than keto vegan although it is possible so you can get the ultra low carbohydrate metabolism of course it's a lot easier to be keto if you do a carnivore animal-based food type of eating plan but keep in mind that most experts agree of course there always be some who don't most experts agree that hun gatherer paleo Primal Story the scientific record says that humans really evolved to eat meat and it's kind of unusual and and rather new that some populations have not had meat and some do just fine but others don't do so well and the vegan concept is really new oh so we started with a couple interviewers and influencers and never really talk to a nutrition expert or or did we we're we're talking to people who are driving this car I mean using this body fig figuring out we're talking to people who are using the body you know driving the car and fine-tuning it their own way and is that not really some sort of expertise you know I think the Grassroots effort that's going on the idea that the internet and other meetup groups are available is fantastic you want to be able to make sure you don't feel like you're alone you don't want to be alone especially if you're dealing with an addiction that's just a rule of addiction is you want you want to you need to be in a group the other part that she was talking about is getting started you know I've had people who in just a day felt so much better than they were hooked you know so you really don't have to make a whole big commitment you don't have to make meal prep and plan for weeks and all that you can just do it very simply and you'll know very quickly if it's going to be helpful for you if you feel better some people have felt hunger all their lives and then that first day they don't have carbs in the morning the hunger is gone of course if you're in a clinical situation like you're one of my patients you want to be very careful about the medications that you might be on and I help people get off the medication so I always add that as a clinical caution the average person age 65 is on something like seven medications now which is really just kind of crazy and most doctors don't talk about food and I think The Growing Experience about this kind of low carb diet is getting supported more and more and we're following the science very carefully would love to learn about about your experience down below and encourage lots of clinical research to be done in this area too well I hope you find that helpful please like And subscribe ring the notification Bell and look for new content on Wednesdays and Fridays if you enjoyed this video be sure to
