The Power of Self-Esteem in Success

Now your goals combined with sure determination and road work can deliver you to your dreams. But what separates the champion from the contender, the winner from the loser? One of those answers is self-esteem. Because of all the elements that take us down the road to success, self-esteem at times can be the most elusive. Sometimes it takes a holiday just when you need it the most. And this is what makes your focus, your goals, your determination, role work critical because they have tremendous impact on your self-esteem which can be nurtured, shaped and grown to the extent of rather than you pull it along, it starts to pull you along. Then soon you will be completely confident in your decision making as you target new and greater heights. Now, the reason I feel so confident with this is because it was only five days, just five days before my fight with Marvin Haggler that I get hit by one of my sparring partners. I mean, nearly knocked out. And the gym, forget about it. Full of media, cameras, reporters from from all over the world. But I had the experience to cover things up. So, they didn't know. But my guys knew, my team knew because that van ride back to my hotel was silent. Quiet. Deathly silent. And that silence told me everything. They figured if a sparring partner could hurt Ray. Oh my god. What would Marvin Hager do to him? Because the original fight plan was for me to stand toe-to-toe with Marvin because we knew he had built up a lot of scar tissue around the eyes and was susceptible to cuts. So, we figured that along with a very creative and sincere prayer would be my only shot to survive, let alone win. But I took that shot that nearly put me down as a sign that maybe this is not the best strategy to use. So, due to my training and my belief within myself, I took what could have been a serious negative, turned that into a positive, which became a victory. The old saying, if you don't believe in yourself, no one else will, is so simple, yet so very, very true. So, no matter who it is, and no matter what it is, always believe in yourself.
