Exploring Extraction Shooters and Arc Raiders

Extraction shooters, a genre of game where a player enters a map, loots as much as they can, and tries to get out alive. If you die, you lose everything on your person, becoming a mere loot chest for someone else. One man's ass is another man's pleasure, or something like that. I don't know. It is easily one of the most misunderstood genres in gaming. On paper, you would think that people would love extraction shooters. Battle royale were and still are a very popular genre. The thrill of being the last person alive out of a 100 people is a high that few other multiplayer games can achieve. And if you think about it, VRs are basically extraction shooters, right? You drop in, gather items, items that you lose upon trying to build battle a booger picking 12-year-old, and you extract by just killing every player in the lobby. But whenever I see people talk about extraction shooters online, it always carries such a negative stigma. Why? Some people say it's oversaturated and I'm like [ __ ] where? Go ahead, name me five quality extraction shooters. You got Tarov, free-to-play Tarov, and Hunt Showdown, which is a root and tootin master [ __ ] piece. But then nothing. There is little to no real competition in this space. Look at the top 10 extraction shooters on Steam. There's nothing here, man. People seem to associate extraction shooters with only Tarov. They think this genre of game can only be a hardcore modern military shooter where all your hard work can be yked from you because of a single lucky headshot. Yeah, the guy on the wall. Oh, you just got one shot. I didn't even see him aim his gun. He was sprinting. Stopped sprinting for a microscond shot and then kept on sprinting. And you know what? I'm tired of it. Can you not think creatively, [ __ ] Use that imagination. This genre is so ripe for exploration. But most developers who venture into it just do what Tarov does. Carbon copies with occasional gimmicks. Where's the innovation? Bungie's Marathon seem to be the one to change things up. They seemed to be the guy. Extraction shooters are just doomed to forever be Tarov clones. Never pushing the boundaries, remaining a niche genre with a negative stigma of being unfun, boring, punishing, and not new player friendly. I have had it with these generic extraction shooters. This [ __ ] gaming industry. Everybody strap in [Music] [Music] Please be some good loot in here, man. I need this. Let me see some epic tier stuff. Come on. Come on. Come on. No way. Anyways, Ark Raiders created by Embark Studios aka the studio made up of X Dice employees. And I'm talking about the Battlefield Bag Company Two Dice Baby. Oh yeah, that's right. Close your mouth. I can see you drooling. This game has me by the [ __ ] balls and I can't even play it anymore. Earlier this month, it had its second private tech test, and it only lasted for about a week, and I clocked almost 30 hours on that [ __ ] I got two of them. I got two. No, Embark. I won't uninstall it because it makes me feel like it's still with me. I've recently got into the finals not too long ago, and even though I've been doing unheard levels of glazing for that game, Arc Raiders was still able to keep me absolutely glued. Oh [ __ ] Oh, those things are terrifying. Jesus [ __ ] Christ. Embark just knows they're [ __ ] man. Now, my rambling about extraction shooters at the beginning was important because it's to help put into perspective how much this game is actually trying new things with the genre that makes it special. So special that it has turned me into an extraction shooter lover. That's right, sumi. Yo, watch this. Let's see it. you know, and has shown me what is possible when you don't keep doing [ __ ] Tarov over and over again. Arc Raiders at its core is an extraction shooter. I think you're right. I guess it just like tells it individually learning automatically. Wait, no. Lance, no. Wow. but honed to be as fun and nonf frustrating as possible while still managing to keep the tense, heart pounding action that comes with the stakes this genre brings while topping that gameplay cake with presentation and production that makes my eyes and ears leak happy juices. So, if you're still wary about this genre as a whole, sit that ass down and pay attention because I'm going to change your mind. [Music] Oh my god. Holy [ __ ] [Music] Oh, there's a big jump. Oh my god. What is this? Let's get in. No. Keep running. Oh my god. What on earth is that? I hear a little robot. A bastion. I don't want to know, bro. It's like a spider tank, but like [ __ ] hu. It's like a tank tank. I ain't playing Overwatch, dog. I don't even want to look at it. Play Overwatch right there. You see it? Yeah. Yeah, I saw it uh when we were on the the sand map. Did you just shoot at it? No. You are a raider part of an underground society that is hiding from a ruined world overrun by arcs. Intelligent killer robots who got sick and tired of people adding them asking if this is true. Gork, is this true? Run, run, run, run, run. Your task is to travel above ground to gather valuable resources and tools for survival, braving the dangerous apocalyptic wastelands of the rust belts varied environments. Environments, by the way, fun fact, take place in the same universe as the finals, embark's first game. So, while all the rich fat [ __ ] Jabba the huts of the world are watching their arena death games go down, the rest of the world is in absolute ruins. Huh. Kind of sounds a little familiar. I can't put my finger on it. What is that? Are those [ __ ] meteors? That's a meteor. I think that's a loot drop. Bro, look at the smoke. Do you see the smoke effects on that [ __ ] Yeah, that looks You can hear the sound wave. Bro, what the hell? Dude, that just Now, if you're new to extraction shooters, let me explain some things. You can choose as much or as little equipment to bring onto the surface for a round. Of course, the more gear you bring in, the more of an advantage you have over others. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Bro, my medium shield just saved my life. Oh my god, [ __ ] on. But with great loot comes great responsibility, Peter Paka. And if you screw up and get yourself into a pickle and die, all of that gear on you is lost permanently, except for items inside what I call your prison pocket. You know, the best pocket to keep things completely safe and secure so you can bring important things back with you like Oh my god. Oh my Lanc's mixtape. Damn, this [ __ ] is fire. It's going in the playlist. If you can successfully extract alive, all your loot can be put into your vault for safekeeping, can be used as crafting materials, or can be sold for that sweet moola. NPCs can give you quests to look for specific items in the world, which can be found in specific locations on the map. We Oh, here. Look, look at this photograph. Completing these quests will give you experience points and gear that go into your vault, which can then be taken back out onto the map. Uh, the great extraction shooter circle of life. It's beautiful. Some items can be used to build your base, creating a multitude of crafting benches and stations that you can level up, including a [ __ ] No, no, no. Like, no. Like an actual [ __ ] Meet Scrappy. He passively gathers materials for you in exchange for human blood sacrifices and sometimes a little bit of fruit. Needs food, man. He hasn't ate in a week. Look at him. He's starving. He's brittle. Skin and bones right now. There's a thing going on at the damn battlegrounds called Lush Blooms where there's more fruit and plants just around everywhere. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I need apricots and lemons. We out here. We're just taking berries and [ __ ] Yeah. We just some dudes. We're just three dudes touching each other's berries. And also the forest berries. and lemons. Just three dudes sucking lemons and sucking a little bit of dick. We just sucking some dick together. We suck dick and we suck lemons. We're all out of lemons. I just wanted I just want fruit. So, your objectives are one, complete quests, and two, become rich. Now, all of that is pretty standard Extraction shooter stuff, but it's Arc Raiders momentto- moment gameplay mechanics, design philosophies, and presentation that set it apart. Even the concept itself of extracting is handled in such an interesting way that allows for insanely cool gameplay moments. I'm trying to initiate the extract early, but as you can see, it is super risky. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Don't come in here. Goodbye. Yeah, baby. Oh, yeah. In most extraction shooters, you leave by just standing in a circle, waiting for a timer to go down, and then when said timer finishes, you just kind of and you're done. In Arc Raiders, there are physical areas that you need to activate, which emits an audiovisisual alert that other players can hear and see. Your call is received. Standby. This is a clip taken from my stream, so the quality is terrible, but just listen very closely. Somebody's extracting down there, bro. Look at that. I heard him extracting from that sound effect. Look, he's right there. Look, there he is. I just heard the Not only that, but different maps have different forms of extraction. The two main ones being a bunker and this subway station. Anyone inside these extraction zones leaves when the timer ends. And I mean anyone, whether they're friend or foe, if you're inside, you get to return with your loot safe and sound. Extraction zones close off one by one as the round progresses, kind of acting as a pseudo circle. So, if you wait till the last minute and go to the last extraction zone, even something like this could happen. I think somebody's running around on your right. Yo, let's all go together. Let's all go together, guys. Come on. Let's all go together. Come on. Come on. Come on. Yeah. Don't die. No need to fight. Let's just Let's just all get out together alive. Yeah. There's one guy left, bro. [Music] Hopefully, I've never seen that many people in there. Five of us, dude. Oh man. I had to be the peacemaker. If you don't reach an extract in time, people they start it. They [ __ ] started it. That's insane. Meteors will start randomly falling from the sky, potentially killing you off. Key word, potentially. No. No. With all of these extraction mechanics combined, along with one more thing I haven't told you yet, I want to share this insane moment my buddy Lance and I had. We had just finished killing a giant boss robot, which took us almost the entire match after looting. We had about 5 minutes left to get out, and I'll just let it speak for itself with an ending that is no joke a top 10 gaming moment for me in my life. This way through here. That's That one's inactive. Can't you can't you activate it though? No, that's one of the ones that just turns off. That's not one of the key ones. Wait, where do we go anyway? The one that I have. Oh my [ __ ] god. This Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Y weapons away. Let's go. Oh, brother. This is This is going to be close. Nah, we're fine. Snip dead. You getting sniped dead? Oh, there's a there's a jumper right there. A bison, bro. The sniper still looking at me. Oh my god. Nice dodge. Let's keep going. Keep going. I'm going to I'm down. Are you actually This is spot to be down. I can't get out. Oh no. plants. You might have to leave. I think the bash is coming. The bast is coming. Yeah. Goodbye, [ __ ] sniper. Oh, he's coming after you. That's crazy. Get away from me. Yo, you can get me now. What? You can get me now. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm I'm free. And then we need to get the [ __ ] out of here. Uh I I can't do it, dude. Yeah, I know. Yeah. Just run. Oh no. Oh, he ran into the pole. Did you see that? No, I didn't. I missed it. He tried jumping at you and hit the pole and ate [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] Okay. If you Okay. Can you Can you get out of the way from the sniper? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I am I'm away now. I'm good. You can get me. You got to hurry though. I'm about to die. I'm coming. I'm coming. I'm coming. [Music] My king. Oh my god. Don't move. Don't move. Don't move. Don't move. Don't move. We just got to [ __ ] go. Just go. Just go. Just [Music] go. Yo, hear me out. I have three zip lines, dude. Use it. It's shooting. It's shooting. Where are you? Where are you? Use it. Use it. Use it. Use it. Use it. I placed all three because I didn't realize. Why would you do that? We got some distance. Oh, there are people shooting at us. What is that? No, I think it's the bots. I [ __ ] hate you. You realize how much I hate you. Yeah, I kind of [ __ ] us, didn't I? You know, I got you, though. I got you. You did get me. Yo, you know what would go crazy right here? A zipline. You piece of [ __ ] That's insane. [ __ ] Get the [ __ ] away from us. Okay, we we got 50 seconds, dude. Just run. Just run. We don't We don't We don't have time. I don't know if that I don't know if that should just go around. Okay, I think we're going to get to slide down this. Please. Oh, thank God. Oh, thank God. Are we going to make this? There's a robot. There is a [ __ ] You need to shoot that while I call it. Shoot it while I call it. Shoot it while I call it. No. Oh, it just right there. It's right there. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. I'mma crawl in. You just hide. I'll crawl into it. It doesn't see me. Doesn't see me. Doesn't see me. It doesn't. It doesn't. Oh, he's shooting. Oh, he's shooting. Oh, he sees you. Oh, he's going around. He's going around right here. Oh, I'm just juking. I'm juking him. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Holy [ __ ] Open up. Open up. Please. I see the media. No. No. That's so unfortunate. Wait, I'm still alive. How do we Where's the elevator? I don't know. I'm down. No. No way. Get inside. Get inside. We can call it still. Call it. Hit the Hit the Hit the button. Hit the button. I'm hitting it. Hit the [ __ ] button. Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it. I did it. We're good. Let's go. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh, thank God. Oh my goodness. It's cinema. It's cinema. Now, before continuing, it's vital that I address the most controversial aspect of Ark Raiders, third person perspective. For some people, that could make them feel a bit skeptical. You know, in a game where you lose everything and get sent back to a lobby, a third person perspective could be a recipe for Sorry, machine got my tongue. Look, I personally really like Arc Raiders thirdp person perspective for multiple reasons. First and foremost, it makes it unique. Like, brother, there is a cajillion firstperson PvP games that exist. If Arc Raiders was also first person, I guarantee it would have had a far more negative reception and stigma of being another generic extraction shooter. This perspective obviously gives you more spatial awareness, which is incredibly helpful for the PVE sides of this game when you're dealing with the arcs. Being able to gather more information and sneak around is crucial for how punishing they can be if they do spot your big old forehead. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Oh my god. Shoot him. Shoot him. I want to go home. I know what you're thinking. This makes PvP boring because it encourages camping and corner peaking. And to that I say, have you tried getting good? People need to understand that both first person and third person games have their own pros and cons and their own differences in skill expression. In my research on this subject, I came across this example video that was recorded on what seems to be a Nintendo DS. But just bear with me here. In this clip, it is argued that this player has an unfair advantage because he uses his camera to spot two people inside a building waiting to gun him down. Thus, with this new information and insight, he decides to back up, lob a grenade in, killing the two players inside. Pretty unfun, right now. Imagine this scenario in first person. The player, unable to see around corners now, goes inside this building to loot and is gunned the [ __ ] down by these two guys who are camping and taking advantage of the fact that they heard him first. Pretty unfun, right? If everyone has a third person advantage, then no one has an advantage. This guy simply used the game's mechanics better. It is a different type of skill and play style. And if you don't like it, then guess what, buddy? You're not starving anytime soon. Third person makes PvP combat less about who can just simply aim better and more about who can outsmart and outmaneuver the other. If you've seen, I don't know, 5 seconds of Gears of War gameplay, you know exactly what I'm talking about. If you're fighting a guy who's behind cover, obviously don't be [ __ ] stupid and push him head-on. You need to figure out how to flush him out, how to get the better angle, how to shift the tide in your favor. I got a real grenades here. Here we go. There we go. Hey. Hey, that's some good throws. Yeah. These grenades I'm chucking are to try and get some splash damage. Yeah. But to also make a ton of noise. Noise that helped to lure in some arc to third party this [ __ ] Oh my god, he had better shields than me. There's no way. Wait, the rockets are the rockets are shooting him right now. Oh, he got killed. One of them got killed. Oh, let's go. Let's go. Oh, wait. Is it the rocket one? Oh, yes. It is. Holy [ __ ] Amazing. Use the game mechanics you're given. Play smart and be rewarded. I'm so overcumbered. I have to drop [ __ ] though. Oh my god. I'm down. There's one close right, one far. Oh my god. What was that? Here. Come. Come back. There's two. There's two. Be careful. I got one. He's healing. Might be able to pick one of us up. He's pushing. I'm going to watch your flank over here. I realize I'm the exposed one right now. There's a [ __ ] sniper, dude. Oh, there is a way up there. So, I reposition to try to put the odds in my favor. I'm going to run real quick. Forcing them to come out if they want to go and finish my teammates. He threw a grenade. Watch out. Yep. I think they're resing each other. He's pushing. There's two in. He's pushing on me. On me right now. My body. Nice. You downed him. There's two more. Two more. Same door. Nice. One more. One more. Nice. Holy [ __ ] Yo, get us before we die. Oh yeah, you're right. [ __ ] it. Stop searching. I'm coming. I'm coming. Felix first. Oh my god, dude. Damn, that's rough, dog. You're You're Arc Raiders immediately stands out by just having a different set of rules to abide by than like 90% of its competition. And the final reason is that hot damn are these animations so so good. How your raider looks and feels while controlling them gives you such a grounded, immersive feeling. Vaulting over stuff, sliding, and just navigating the world makes you feel like you're actually there when you can see yourself interacting with it all. Speaking of movement, by the way, they absolutely [ __ ] nailed it in this game, and it's by far one of my favorite mechanics. Wait, the parkour is crazy. No, it's not Titanfall movement while running at the speed of sound while you're off 10 g of heroin, but it's still fluid and dynamic. Okay, here we go. Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay. Yeah, you got a big dick it. Come on. Don't fall. Don't do it. Don't fall. I'm scared. I'm I'm getting scared. Hold up. You got this. I dare you. I double dog dare you. Run, slide, turn around, ledge grab. I don't have that much important [ __ ] No balls. No balls right now. No balls right now. If I die, y'all better come get me, though. All right. You ready for this? You ready, dude? Holy [ __ ] We got the K, too. If he dies. Let's go. Oh my god. Queen, bro. All right. All right, Jay, your turn. Holy [ __ ] dude. I actually geeked up playing Xbox. Yeah, let's go get him real quick. Hold on. I'm going to I'm going to try and do it real quick. So then if I go down anyways. All right. Yeah, we have to do it. If you do. No, no, no. What do you [ __ ] Hey, can you come down? You can grab on to almost anything. I grabbed on this light post, dude. If it looks like your hands can grip it, you probably can. You can even do some Assassin's Creed [ __ ] where you can kind of like shimmy from side to side. Like, are you seeing this? Navigating the world just feels so fun. I try and avoid the stairs whenever I can. This movement, however, also takes precise timing. Perfect. God, I love that so much. Feels so [ __ ] cool. Grabbing ledges is a skill check. I park it. I caught it. And trust me, you can miss it. Wait, I have an idea. Watch this. Watch this. Watch this. You guys ready for this [ __ ] [Music] parkour? [ __ ] I hit my head. I was going to grab that ledge. If you're falling from a tall height and hit the crouch button at the right time, you can perform a roll out, negating fall damage. Let's go. Landed it. Oh. Oh, I [ __ ] that one up again. It can be harder to hit than you think. There was also this exploit in the tech test where you can negate fall damage from any height by grabbing a ledge right before hitting the ground. And while this is really, really funny, it's definitely getting patched. But yeah, third person looks and feels good. Plus, above all else, it always makes customization way better since you can actually see that drip drip chocolate chip. Oh [ __ ] We in sync twink. I like how our characters look like they're looking at each other as they're dancing, but our heads tilt. We're just staring intently into each other's eyes. Show my good side real quick here. Yeah, taking pictures. Oh, Kelski. Ksky over here. Kilski. Kilski, please. Kiaph. Oh my god. Kelski, please. I don't think we're going to make it. Everything in Arc Raiders is built for third person and that's that. And thank God they doubled down and said they're not doing a first person mode. Okay, cry about it. Arc Raiders core combat mechanics of moving, shooting, sandbox, and physics all come together to create a loop that is immensely satisfying. Whether you're fighting real humans, I got him. I got him. Or soulless clankers. Immediately, I want to point out that there are zero hit markers. Holy [ __ ] Thank you. Oh my god. I have wanted to do a whole video about this, but I hate hit markers. Look, I understand their place, okay? But not everything needs hit markers. I absolutely love it when games use in universe visual feedback to relay information to players. In classic Halo, you didn't need hit markers to know if your bullets are landing because the enemy shields light up like a goddamn Christmas tree. In Arc Raiders, shooting player shields emit blue sparks. You can hear the shield's power flicker and zap. And when it finally breaks, you can literally hear it power down. Now you know they're vulnerable. After that, hitting flesh gives you that good old red mist, and it's just mwah. But my favorite mechanic by far is how the game confirms downed players. As soon as a raider gets downed, they shoot off a flare into the sky, acting as both a way to confirm a down. Holy [ __ ] I got that guy. But also alerts anyone in the vicinity that there is some [ __ ] going down over there. Who flares? Oh my god, somebody's murdering me. Oh, it's [ __ ] barking. When you're inside, the flare still gets launched and bounces around the room, lighting it up. It is so goddamn cool for sure. Oh, bro, we could have been friends. What the hell, bro? No. Hit markers look so [ __ ] good. Oh yeah. Now, let me show you what it would be like with hit markers. [ __ ] hit markers. Me and the homies hate hit markers. Also, when you down someone in this game, they have these super dramatic ass death rolls with limbs flying out, swaying like you're in an old school western movie. I love it. Yes, bro. We see the acting. Okay, get this man is Emmy. All of the weaponry has a very thrown together with duct tape and glue vibe that I love. And I haven't even gotten to all the different kinds of equipment items that are in this game. Like a There's a [ __ ] grappling hook, man. There's a grappling hook. Oh [ __ ] Oh [ __ ] While the PvP combat is tense and visceral, I think it's time to talk about the guys who are the first word in the game's title. The arcs. Oh, he's here. He's here. Oh [ __ ] Oh [ __ ] Oh, he definitely Lance. Lance. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Shoot it. Shoot it. Shoot it. Shoot it. Oh my god. I'm out of stamina. Run. Run away. Oh, I'm [ __ ] I'm might be [ __ ] God, man. Am I down? Wait. Come here, guys. Come back. Son of a [ __ ] Okay. Can you Can you res me for right there? Oh my god. He's inside. No way, bro. Dude. Dude, he's like physics based. When he like jumps in, he like ragdolls. I've got a stun grenade. Okay, okay, okay. Keep it quick. [Music] Arc robots are the main PVE enemy in the game and come in all types of shapes, sizes, and levels of Oh my god, I'm so [ __ ] Level one. We just level 99. Wait, wait, wait. Don't look at me. Don't look at me. Why? Why? Why? Why? [ __ ] running, dude. I'm running. Get back. Get back. Get back. Go away, you [ __ ] [ __ ] They're all fun and interesting to fight in their own ways with their own quirks you need to consider. Ticks love to hide in dark places, typically hiding in ceiling pipes and rubble. Fireballs roll around and light you up when in range. Wasps and hornets use rotors to fly around and have a variety of guns. Bisons are like if a half-life head crab was the size of a semi-truck and are absolutely horrifying. Bastions are slow lumbering tanks with an alert sound that continues to haunt my dreams. Oh my god. Rocketeers are just AC-130s. And then you have the Queen, which is like a Halo Scarab except it can move faster than 2 mph. They have teased even bigger arcs in previous trailers, and I can only imagine what man-made horrors beyond human comprehension embark are cooking for the final game. Fighting these arcs, just like humans, are extremely satisfying. Shooting arcs makes sparks fly everywhere. Bits of metal and gears fly off. Smoke and fire portray how damaged it is. But what really hits the home run is that these enemies have physics. Shooting out specific rotors will make an arc spin out of control. If it crashes into something hard enough, it will instantly blow up. Some arcs use physics to walk around with their legs. Legs needed to jump and propel themselves. There we go. Here we go. Here we go. Here we go. Holy [ __ ] This [ __ ] He's getting the [ __ ] He's got And they can even be immobilized if you take them all out. And these [ __ ] do not got life alert. Okay, if they've fallen and can't get up, they're easy targets. Help. I've fallen and I can't get up. Apparently, some people have pointed out that they have AI learning. So, when an arc loses balance, it will literally adjust in real time to learn how to fly with its missing rotor like a [ __ ] animal learns to walk with three legs. It is insane. Arcs, due to their hard shells, require heavier ammo types in order to effectively take down, which adds a really cool dynamic where if you want to survive, you need like both a weapon to take down robots and one to take down players. If you try shooting arcs with that lift dick Nerf gun light ammo, they're going to torch you unfazed. Oh, damn, these [ __ ] guys. Fighting arcs in this game oddly remind me of fighting the Covenant in Halo. In Halo, a lot of gunfire can be avoided with movement and dodging. While the arcs can absolutely dick on you, the game's movement systems allow you to actually bob and weave to avoid damage. That is so much more fun than fighting an enemy where if they have you in line of sight, you're basically just [ __ ] making it so the only way to fight back is by peeking from behind cover. Boring. Another issue with PvE elements in something like Arena Breakout is that AI enemies are just other humans. They move like humans, shoot like humans, just like the player humans. PvP and PvE just kind of feel the same. But in Arc Raiders, they truly feel like two separate entities. Wait. Yo, I'm going to step on top of it. Watch this. Ready? Wait. Oh [ __ ] Yeah. What's up, [ __ ] Riding. We call this bass riding. Oh [ __ ] Oh [ __ ] And when you throw them into the same world, you can get some truly special moments. Dude, I don't He's Dude, he cracked again. Yeah, he's so weak. Maybe that robot will kill him. He's shooting it. Oh, he's finding the robot. Well, he ain't getting to that [ __ ] extraction without us seeing him. Oh, he died. Oh, damn. Poor guy. Oh, what the [ __ ] Oh. Oh, it killed somebody. Oh, yo. Hello. You are you out? Oh, [ __ ] It's raining this way. Oh, I'm tired. Hello. Hello. Raider. Hey, Raider. Hey. Where is that coming from? Okay. Oh, there he is. There he is. Yes. Hey. Hello. There he is. He's crawling. Hey, can you hear me? Say say hello if you can hear me. Hello. Yes. Come here. I killed I killed the sniper drone who who took you out, bro. I killed him. I got revenge for you. All right. Yes. Yes. Yes. I got you, brother. Wait, do I have a defib on me? I don't, bro. I don't have a defib. I lost it last match. I have no defib. I'm so sorry. Yep. Good loot on you. Yes or no? Okay. Yep. Okay, lude. No, you have good loot. Yes. Here, come come closer to me. Come closer to me. I'll take good care of it. No. Is there like a Is there like a salute? I'll dance for him. Drop the beat. I'll dance for his loss. Who's a good man? I get some 07s in chat. Man, this is so out in the open, man. He has a renegade. Oh. Oh my god, that is huge. A level three recipe. Oh my [ __ ] god. I need to leave right now. Actually, I hear somebody. I hear somebody. No, don't shoot. Don't shoot. Don't shoot. Oh. [Music] That's right. Get off my dick. Get off my dick. Hello there. What are you doing? Hey there. Oh, hi. Hey, Raider. Hi. Hello there. Hi. Hey there. Look, I was I I just went through a grieving process. I just lost a friend to a sniper turret. Then you come out here. I'm trying to take his I'm trying to take his ashes home. Okay. And you start lighting me up. Feel ashamed of yourself. My bad. Sorry. GG. Hey. But there's one feature that puts this game leagues above so many others and makes this particular genre truly shine. The best feature in gaming. Proximity voice chat. Oh, that's one. [Applause] [Music] What was that? What was that, man? I was just trying to kill the horn with a snapback grenade and then I was going to do You're good though. Just part of the game. Oh, no. No way though. Yo, come here. Come here. Come here. Come here. Come here. No shot. I don't have a defip. I'm so sorry. It's all good. It's all good. That was totally good. Oh, [ __ ] Yo. Yo, chill. Chill. Chill. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. I'm just better. I'm just [ __ ] better. Holy [ __ ] No. Who Who was that? Who was that? That was you. Yo, GG, man. G [ __ ] G. Yeah. GG. Extraction shooters are kind of the perfect game to have proximity voice chat if you think about it. While in battle royale, it's cool to be able to talk to random strangers, you still eventually have to just kill them. You mother. Because that's the nature of the mode. It's your objective. This ain't no Hunger Games, okay [ __ ] Only the strong survive. Well, in Extraction Shooters, your goal isn't to kill everybody. Your goal is to loot. Robbing other players is just only one way to achieve that objective. Because of this, the concept of actually teaming up with random people in the world to survive the brutal threat of the arcs is actually a viable strategy and something I did multiple times and it was [ __ ] magical. How do I dodge that? Yo, bro, get out while you still can. Get out while you still can. I don't know what to do here, man. Yo, do you have a TIP? Do you have a TIP? You have a TIP? We can do this together. Oh my god. Okay, I promise I will not kill you. Do you know how to do this at all? Thank you so much for not killing me. You're such a gig of chat, dude. This random guy not only saved me, but helped me complete the harvester puzzle to get some insane loot. And then we still extracted together. I'll never forget you, my king. Do that. I have a big gun. Very big scary gun. Oh, I wouldn't do that. I have a big gun. How big has that gun in inches? Solid two and a half. Oh my god, that's that's Dude, that's bigger than me. That's massive. Yo. Yo, I'm going to I'm going to come up the zipline. All right. Okay. Oh, there you are. Yo, what's up, dude? What's up? Just like uh just ice some guy up here. Oh, look at this poor soul. He definitely has not a 2 and 1/2 in gun. He had a really tiny baby gun. Oh. Oh, hell yeah. I just need some healing items, honestly, at this point. camera lens. Me, too. Oh, [ __ ] yeah. Are you a Are you a balding grandma? [Music] That's [ __ ] hard. I'm looking for people to kill, but you're just so nice. I couldn't I couldn't kill you. I see. I I kill the no mics. I kill the people who don't want to talk. Those are the truly evil people. The mutes. Oh, no misgusting. You know, I heard it's like I heard it's a like a virus, you know, going around. makes them makes them aggressive. They can't speak anymore. They're almost like zombies. They only say things like, "Yes, hello." Hey. Yeah. Yeah. Everyone Everyone has their G muscle, dude. Hey, hello there. But you know this disease, it actually deteriorates the G muscle. Can you believe that? Yeah, it's sad. Oh, it's a zipline. Yo, what's up, dude? Yo, yo, yo. Hey, it's you. No. No way. I [ __ ] found you again. Oh my god. I found you again. No shot, bro. My bad. That's crazy. Drop the heads. Come on, dance with me. I [ __ ] love this game. It also makes hunting other players so much more personal because when you do kill someone, especially before even talking to them, you chose to go down the path of violence. Got him. Let's go. You're really going to wait after I have to kill everything? I mean, sorry, man. You're doing You're doing hard work for me, though. I think I might have a defip on me. One sec. Oh, bro. It's the one time I didn't bring a defib. I I hate you. I'm sorry. Now I feel terrible. No, I hate you. I hate you. How about some back, bro? No. Get away from me. No, no, we can. Yeah, we can. Yeah, we can make we can be friends. We can be friends still. Mr. Krabs, help. Mr. Krabs. No, you don't need Mr. Krabs. It's all It's all right. Don't get the boss. Mr. Krabs, please. He's trying to touch me. No, no, no, no. I'm sorry, man. I'm sorry, dude. [Laughter] I feel terrible. And remember, that loot holds so much more weight than it does in a regular VR game. you actively simultaneously drain that motherfucker's vault and their will to live. But that's what makes these games so tense and fun. Even if you don't want to use a mic, the game has a pretty good radio menu for basic communication, and it's a lot more effective than I thought. I made friends with this bald guy who talked only through in-game actions. No. Yo, well [ __ ] played. Damn. Ah, well played. Hello, Raider. Never got in by an old man. That's crazy. You don't have to kill me, though. You could just get, you know, it was a it was a fair fight. It's the last day. Last day of the test. You have a defib on you, right? Oh my god. You actually do just Yo, I will want to go together. Want to go together? Oh yeah, dude. Yo, how about this? Let's go kill that bison. There's a bison down there. Hold on. There's a bison like in that field right down there somewhere. We can go kill it. We can go kill it together. Yes. Yeah. Yes. Want to team up? Yeah. Yeah. There you go. Sorry. Look. Look. You have a You have a beautiful bald head. You have a beautiful bald head. Did I ever tell you that? Your hairline looks great today. It's hard It's hardly even noticeable. I didn't even I didn't even know you were balding. Actually, you have two seconds if you're going to res me, which I would I would massively appreciate. Yeah. Yeah. Team up. Yeah, let's do that. Please. Oh my god. I actually had like two seconds. Oh my god. You actually saved me, dude. You know, you know, you're so hot for that. You're so You know, I could just I could just kiss your bald head right now. Yo, what is all this? And I eventually just gave him a name because I don't know, you couldn't tell me one. I'm trying to figure out your name. Does your name start with an F? No. Okay, I'm going to call you Frank. How about that? Yeah. Yeah. We went on to adventure hand in hand and even took out a bison. Oh my god. Oh my god. We just murdered that thing. Holy [ __ ] Eventually extracting together. And it was just such a unique experience you quite literally only get in this genre. The fact that at any point I could have just been shot in the back of the head made these moments so much more special because it was real human trust that let us work together against the arcs. Banning together as human beings against the world. A world by the way that is [ __ ] gorgeous. The world of Arc Raiders is so goddamn beautifully crafted. It is just such a visual treat to navigate these spaces. Although I will admit I would like to see some more of this whole retro sci-fi look bleed into the environmental design a little bit more. But even so, this is a world that is begging to be explored and recognizes your presence. A presence that is also beautifully portrayed with top-notch animations, graphics, and sound design. [Music] I haven't seen sound design this good since Hunt Showdown. And if you play that game, you know that is some humongous praise. Sound itself is a combat mechanic. What the hell? Oh. Oh god, the sensor. Stop. Cameras can send off alert signals. Oh [ __ ] Oh my god. I That was so sick. Breaching doors is loud and risky. Arcs can emit sound cues when spotting enemies. Easy, baby. Just using your senses to absorb all of the world's information is vital. The detail and everything is just insane. Like, there are no corners left untouched. Wait, there's people here. People. Oh, I [ __ ] That guy his ass. Those pistols are disgusting. Dude, the audio is so good. I heard like the metal and rocking of hit of him like trying to loot the bus. It's crazy. Your character state also affects their animations, which can relay that state to nearby enemies. If you run out of stamina, your character physically looks exhausted, running as if their lungs are about to collapse. If you're over encumbered, not only do you move super slow, but your animations for rolling and climbing are different to visually show how much junk you got in that trunk. Bro, I'm climbing so slow cuz I'm carrying around all this weight. You can see your ankles disintegrate in real time as you stagger in pregame balance. It's all of these little visual things that somehow make playing in third person even more immersive than first person. Some people feel like they can only be immersed into a game in first person, but it truly is all about the details and presentation that matters the most. Lastly, I want to briefly touch on the progression and monetization. This will be Embark Studios first premium product, which basically just means that you will have to pay for it. No freeto play here, and I am very happy with that. The finals is free to play, and that game's monetization is actually one of the best in the industry for reasons I'll go into in a different video. If the progression/monetization is anything like it was in the tech test, we are going to be eaten so good, bro. The skill tree is a great concept to have permanent persistent upgrades. There's battle pass challenges that do not have timers. I repeat, they do not have timers. I hate this [ __ ] You can grind the battle pass to your heart's content. Premium currency is extremely easy to get by leveling up, completing mastery challenges, and progressing your battle pass. Now, all of this could change in the final game, of course, and I have no doubt there will be microtransactions just like Hell Divers 2 still has microtransactions despite being a premium product, but I don't know, man. I have a strong feeling that Embark will just do it right and continue to be an example for the rest of the industry of how to do live service games properly. At least I hope our creators isn't just a phenomenal extraction shooter that could potentially push the genre mainstream, but it's just a phenomenally designed video game that just knows how to throw the right punches. I could talk about this game for hours, but this video is already way too long. And I still have more [ __ ] I could have mentioned, but I need to post something already. It's such a great feeling when you're playing something and every mechanic just flows so naturally together as if the developer already knows what their players are thinking and would want out of this experience. This game could have launched yesterday and I would happily pay money for it. But even so, there's been rumors that there's still so much content that could potentially be coming with launch. I'm not going to say what the exact percentages are because I don't want to help build false expectations. But I trust Embark still got some meat in their pants they haven't whipped out yet. Who are these synth guys? Lance is a synth. You see them playable in earlier trailers and you see them on the map. Oh, what the [ __ ] Hey, turn your flashlight off. Oh, what? I don't like that. It's Lance. That's the guy we get like stuff from. That is It is. Maybe you can extract with that at some point and get it as a skin. That'd be sick. What does it all mean? Tell me. One thing that has been basically confirmed is this hidden timer that counts down to June 6th. Coincidentally, the Summer Games Fest date, which is in like a week or so. People have been speculating they might shadow drop this [ __ ] just like they did with the finals. And dear God, I hope they do. I miss this game so much, man. What I've played is already more than enough for a solid launch. All I want is just more. More weapons, more gadgets, more maps. The only essential thing I'd say this game still needs is a hardcore endgame map where [ __ ] really hits the fan. And you need high tier loot to survive in. Oh my god, I forgot the night rates. There's night rates in this game, by the way. Not enough time to cover it. Overall, I'd go as far to even say that this has potential to win best multiplayer at this year's game awards. Probably not game of the year, though, because another game is already on an expedition to take that crown. For making it to the end of this video, you are rewarded with yet another Bubba picture. I'm sorry this video took a while. I was just very passionate about it, and it just turned out to be a way bigger project than I thought. Anyways, that's all from me. I'll see you in the next video. Peace. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music]
