what's up all-stars welcome to the school of ireland i wanted to start off this video by sharing something that's deeply personal to me I love pizza if somebody asked me if you could only one food for the rest of your life what would it be my answer would be without a doubt pizza it's literally my favorite food but not just any pizza it would be my local favorite Lido pizza this is hands-down the best pizza in the world it's a rectangular pizza with thin flaky crust and I am obsessed with it I love this pizza so much that if somebody says hey where do you want to go out to eat you better believe I'm gonna say Lido pizza in fact nowadays my friendships laugh at me because they don't even need to ask where I want to go out to eat they know where I want to go out to eat it's not even a question anymore but the thing is since I love Lido pizza so much sometimes I make the assumption that everybody else loves it just as much as I do when that's not the reality unfortunately I have to come to terms with this almost every single school year when I asked my students who likes Lido pizza and shockingly some students don't well they're wrong and it'll probably affect their grade now I'm totally kidding but when I make the assumption that everybody else loves Lido pizza just as much as I do I'm committing something known as the false consensus effect this is where an individual over estimates the number of people who agree with them in other words my obsession with this pizza has led me to assume that everybody else loves it just as much as I do and that's not really the case by the way this video is not sponsored but it probably should be I've turned more people onto Lido pizza than the number of subscribers that mr. beast has but I digress but what's important for you to understand is that when you commit this false consensus effect it could hurt your own image or your friendship with others for example let's say you go off to college you make new friends and then you start bad-mouthing a political candidate in front of these new friends because you wrongly assume that they hold the same exact political views that you hold this is the false consensus effect and you may not have those friends anymore let me give you another example sometimes new couples can fall victim to the false consensus effect especially during the honeymoon phase of dating where they hold hands all the time and they get way too touchy-feely for everybody else to see but during this honeymoon phase of dating many new couples wrongly assume that there partner agrees with everything that they agree with but over time they may start to disagree with each other on either small or large matters and this could lead to the end of the relationship so now I have two questions for you have you ever experienced the false consensus effect and as someone who likes to travel I like to check out new pizza restaurants so I wanted to ask you what's your favorite local pizza place go ahead and jot down your answer to both of these questions in the comment section below and if the pizza place has a website please share the link that's it Allstars I'll see you next time don't forget to Like and subscribe have a great day that's good
