Hello, educators. I’m Zia Hassan, and I’m excited to be diving into the fascinating world of artificial intelligence with you. Artificial intelligence (AI) is a broad set of techniques used to train computers to complete tasks that would otherwise require human intelligence, such as answering questions, generating text, and recognizing objects. Some artificial intelligence is designed to perform specific tasks, like forecasting travel prices, predicting the next word in a sentence, or helping you navigate around real- time traffic conditions with a maps app. Many of us use AI assistance to get through our daily lives! You might be wondering: How can AI benefit education? Well, there are plenty of ways! AI can help personalize learning experiences, provide real-time feedback to learners, and even assist educators in designing creative assignments and generating rubrics. But, as with any technology, there are challenges, too. We need to be mindful of potential impacts of AI systems and ensure that all learners have access to the resources they need to support learning. We’re going to dig into this more as we learn together in this module. For now, remember that educators play a crucial role in preparing learners for their futures with AI as a tool for learning.
